Ok well my daughter drove me nuts to read this book. I did, it was very good. No I have no idea where, how, or why they go onto a book two and DON'T TELL ME!
My costume is a replica of the book cover of "The Hunger Games." It's a big black box with arm and head holes cut out. What I first did was get a box and spray paint it black. I then cut out arm holes and a head hole. Now it was time for decorating. I printed out pictures from the internet and glued them onto the box (The Hunger Games logo, mockingjay symbol, and Suzanne Collins.) After that, I outlined the logos in silver and red. Then, I added the silver design from the cover that surounds the mockingjay pin and goes through The Hunger Games logo. Next, I cut out a piece of paper and wrote "Soon to be a major motion picture" and glued it to the front of the box. The front was completed, now I had to do the back. I printed out a summary and glued it to the back. I also added a "In the production of a major motion picture" section and added pictures from the movie. After a week, it was finally finished! --by Grant

Hunger For Love :
"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. " - Mother Teresa
Friends I have been so very busy at work and home, hardly get much time to upload photos.
This shot was taken during my recent trip to Jaipaiguri, India .
I was walking in the muddy paddy fields , with my heavy camera bag and sandle. While crossing a small creek, my feet got stuck in the water and to save the camera I jumped , but couldn't. My sandle got stuck in the muddy water.
These 3 kids were working in the nearby rice field , and seeing my condition, they ran towards me for help. One took my bag , one pulled me up and the other went in the muddy water and fetched my sandle.....In return all they requested is a photo.....
Along along during my school years I have been in close proximity with Mother Teresa, she used to come to our school and preach us.....for some reason this incident reminded me of her and her words...
In the eve of children day , dedicate this photo to all kids who are working to save their families.
The Shot :
Single shot, hand held capture .
This is not an HDR image.
I would also like to thank all my Flickr friends , last week crossed more than a Million hits, I can't wait to see your beautiful captures...
In Canada, hunger is largely a hidden problem. Many Canadians are simply not aware that large numbers of children, women and men in this country often go to bed hungry. Hunger is caused by low-income. While anyone is at risk of food insecurity at some point in their lives, certain groups are particularly vulnerable. 53.5% of food bank clients in Canada receive welfare as welfare rates in Canada fall below the poverty line and do not ensure food security.

I did something to this in Picasa, but I can't remember what it was!

We are all super excited for The Hunger Games movie to come out!
Stoked to see what Gary Ross can do!
We decided to do a tribute poster to the Movie!

This composite is made COMPLETELY from scratch!
We didn't even have a Bow and Arrow.
I made them from a Vacuum Cleaner attachment and an Ikea lamp accessory!
Check out the tutorial to see how it was made!

We used Photoshop CS6 for the editing.
It was NOT very stable. We had several tool issues and crashes. I have made several tutorials in the past and many more composites using CS5, so I know there are just a lot of bugs in the BETA of CS6.
We are compiling a list for Adobe. Some are pretty bad.
3D space kept crashing and transforming of large objects would take forever, or simply crash completely.
The layout and new features are gorgeous! I really do hope they clean it up as we think CS6 is going to be the newest, hottest thing!
You should check it out if you get the chance!

2015 Beyond Hunger: A Place at the Table

The juvenile Cooper's Hawk, also known as Accipiter cooperii hunted a pigeon and was eating his kill in my side yard beneath a tree against my house. He devoured the entire bird quickly.
This juvenile allowed me to lay on the ground and photograph him from 5 feet away. At times, I thought he may charge at me, but he continued until the only thing was left was feathers and bone.

Halloween jam and although we all went as vampires and undead it's the most alive I've felt in a while - it's so nice to play. It was also the Queen of the Damned's birthday - what a coincidence...

The theme this week was hunger.
I researched hunger to get some ideas and noticed that the main type of image was starvation in 3rd world countries, although i think this is very important i wanted to show something that is perhaps more of an issue in the 'world' i live. Hunger means something different to everyone and i wanted to get across another perspective from which hunger can be an awful and painful thing, this doesnt show the pysical hunger of a 3rd world country but the mental side of it. I have used Photoshop to change the image to B&W and also show the food in colour to make it more obvious, i have played around with this, with and without the colour i felt it blended in too much without it.
The main thing for me at the moment is to learn how to use Photoshop so i learnt a new skill all by myself in showing both the colour and black and white:-)

2015 Beyond Hunger: A Place at the Table

Trying to capture the experience of the extraordinary 'Hunger', in particular the monologue at the center of the film.
If you haven't seen it, it's an astonishing film following the film six weeks of Bobby Sands life, as played by Michael Fassbender and directed by Steve McQueen. Written by Edna Walsh and Steve McQueen.
The Irish Hunger Memorial is designed to raise public awareness of the events that led to the famine of 1845-52 and to encourage efforts to address current and future hunger worldwide. One and a half million Irish were lost through famine related death and the Diaspora. The design expresses a desire to react and respond to changing world events without losing its focus on the project's commemorative intent.
The 96' x 170' Memorial, designed by artist Brian Tolle, contains stones from each of Ireland's 32 counties (#2), and is elevated on a limestone plinth. Along the base are bands of texts separated by layers of imported Kilkenny limestone. The text, which combines the history of the Great Famine with contemporary reports on world hunger, is cast as shadow onto illuminated frosted glass panels.
Central to Tolle's project is this authentic Famine-era cottage donated to the Memorial by his extended family, the Slacks of Attymass, County Mayo, Ireland. The cottage has been painstakingly reconstructed on the Memorial's halfacre site as an expression of solidarity to those who left from those who stayed behind. From the cottage, visitors to the Memorial meander along paths winding through a rugged landscape thickly planted with native Irish flora-plants often found growing in fallow fields. Ascending to an overlook twenty-five feet above the ground, the visitor confronts a breath-taking view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island beyond. This landscape is cantilevered over a stratified base of glass and fossilized Irish limestone, presenting a theater of historical and modern sentiments about famine worldwide. Layers of mutable text, appearing beyond touch as shadows upon the glass, wrap around the exterior of the Memorial and into the passageway leading to the cottage while accounts of world hunger are heard from an audio installation overhead.
Brian Tolle is an internationally renowned sculptor and public artist. His recent public works include Waylay for the Whitney Biennel in Central Park (2002), Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe for the Queens Museum of Art (2001) and WitchCatcher at MetroTech Center Brooklyn (1997) reinstalled in New York City Hall Park (2003). Using a variety of media, his works draw themes from the scale and experience of their surroundings provoking a re-reading by cross-wiring reality and fiction. In much of his work he uses cutting-edge technology in unexpected ways, blurring the border between the contemporary and the historical.
