The landmark of Whampoa Garden, a ship-shaped shopping centre building. A Jusco department store is in its basement.
This area was the Whampoa Dockyard before developers turned it into apartment buildings and shopping centers.
"Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock was a Hong Kong dockyard once among the largest dockyards in Asia. Founded in 1863 by Douglas Lapraik and Thomas Sutherland, the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Company (known as Hong Kong Kowloon and Whampoa Dock Company). In 1865, it was known as Kowloon Docks located on the south coast between Hung Hom and Tai Wan, facing Hung Hom Bay in the Victoria Harbour. It is also known as Whampoa Dock for short. The "Whampoa" part of the name comes from the Huangpu, formerly Whampoa, area of Guangzhou (formerly Canton), where the company owned another dockyard."
The Hung Hom Station (紅磡站), formerly known as Kowloon Station (九龍車站), is an MTR station on the East Rail Line and West Rail Line in Hong Kong. It is located next to the Cross Harbour Tunnel in Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon. It is one of the three Hong Kong ports-of-entry on the MTR network which connect directly to mainland China.
This 360-degree panorama was shot handheld with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L. It is handheld, so parallax error is unavoidable. I do not generally do location scouting for my photography, but with a proof-of-concept capture in hand I will definitely go back with my tripod — when I get my pano head. Any day now—seems it is a must buy item in my arsenal now that I started doing so many panoramic shots.
22 captures stitched using Autopano Giga 3, processed in Lightroom 4.

Whenever people are in the market for an SLR, they come by and ask me what I thought of Nikon. I really don’t have an answer for you. I have been shooting with Canon since I was a teenager, so I know my Canon lineup very well. I do not have a lot of disposable income so although I have played with Nikon cameras, I will not be considering adding a Nikon to my camp any time soon.
So “what about Nikon?” I don’t know. Go ask a Nikon guy. They will probably love it but they are likely not in the position to compare that with Canon either.
Bottom line: the two compete in the same market, their technologies are similar to one and another. Their handling is different. You get used to one and then you stick with it.
Sticking with it is key — don’t jump around the two camps. Photography is a lifetime investment. If you ask me I would recommend that you get a Canon—for starters you are free to play with my lenses if you want to. Go with Nikon? Good luck, I won’t be able to help with any of your camera purchases in the future, but I am sure that if you can find a friend who shoots with Nikon, they would know.

I went to PolyU to see a drama performance last week, and just like my sources at the university has mentioned, the bamboo scaffolding on the Innovation Tower is completely gone, and now you can see the organic forms of this magnificent architecture soaring to the sky.
As I last wrote [1], Zaha Hadid is one of my all-time favorite architects, and this will be her first permanent fixture in Hong Kong. Truly it is incredible.
I was just passing by, and it was super late at night, but here you see why usable high ISO matters. This was shot with the 6D + 17-40. It was shot handheld with 3 exposures. Without a tripod it is not really technically ideal to try at HDR but thanks to the modern marvels of technology, the features are aligned nicely.
Trust that I will go back during the daytime when I have a chance.

About :

The Cross-Harbour Tunnel is the first tunnel in Hong Kong built underwater. It was constructed from 1969 and completed in 1972. Prior to the opening of the tunnel, cross-harbour vehicular traffic depended on ferries. In 1975, the government relocated the Kowloon Station in the present site, adjacent to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel. Many multi-storey car parks were constructed afterwards.

Local temples to Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, have extended their hours so worshippers can borrow from her.
Tradition is that Guanyin once a year provides the means to become wealthy.
But these are loans, and borrowers must clear the debt by the end of the lunar year by burning a red packet at the temple where a deal is made. Offerings, meanwhile, are welcome.
Hung Hom Temple offers the loans up to HK$1 billion.

Okay, so yesterday evening has to be a candidate for some of the weirdest weather I've seen in Hong Kong. Fog rolling in from the East, sun breaking through from the West and fleeting clear blue sky above after a thoroughly grey day. I have upped the saturation a tad to bring out those colours caused by a combination of the above, but this is essentially what the view out of my office window was like at about 6pm yesterday evening.

An old Hung Hom station, a temporary wooden structure located on Chatham Road South, began operation from the first day of Kowloon-Canton Railway on 1 October 1910 to 15 September 1921. In 1975, the government relocated the Kowloon Station in present site, adjacent to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel and Hong Kong Polytechnic. The tunnel was opened in 1972 and was followed by the construction of many multi-storey car parks.

The construction of the Kowloon–Canton Railway began at 1906 and the Kowloon section was opened on 1 October 1910. The railway workshop in Hung Hom was moved to Ho Tung Lau in 1968, followed by the relocation of Kowloon Terminus there in 1975.
A shopping centre shaped like a large ship. Yes, really.
I hadn't been down here since I was a child, in part due to the area's previous relative inaccessibility. However, we were staying in a nearby hotel so this area was the closest commercial district to us.
I love when I find these for sale. They are so sweet. The best places to find them for sale on the streets that I've found is around Mong kok and hung hom

Hung Hom was started to be developed into industrial area in late 1900s with Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock, Green Island Cement Company (1898-1970s) and Hok Un Power Station (1921-1991) occupied there. The dock was redeveloped into Whampoa Garden in 1980s while the cement plant and power station were redeveloped into factory buildings and Laguna Verde in 1990s.

I dread it when people ask me what I photograph, because I don’t really photograph anything particular that is deemed interesting to normal humans.
This is Hong Chong Road (康莊道), a road next to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel (海底隧道) in Hung Hom (紅磡). Far in the background is Hotel ICON (唯港薈), which is the teaching and research hotel built for The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM 酒店及旅遊業管理學院) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) [1].
I photograph this because I like how the lines lead the eye through the frame. This is for my 中文字形 Chinese Typographic Forms series, where I find Chinese characters in a frame after noting that the concept of 形 Forms is not readily appreciated by the Chinese audience but they can relate to Chinese characters.
