Two hundred granite steps make their way up the hillside on Asticou Terraces. Although a moderately steep climb there are several terraces where it is possible to rest and admire the view of Northeast Harbor in the distance. The climb ends at the top of the hill and opens to the beautiful Thuya Garden. Northeast Harbor, Mount Desert Island, Maine.

A masterpiece of popular architecture, the Carrasqueira pier is unique in Europe, built on seemingly fragile irregular wooden stakes of the 1950s and 1960s, which serve as mooring for the fishing boats that lay there, sometimes buried in the mud or in the water, according to the tides.
Despite the degradation, the dock continues to fulfill the mission for which it was built: allow access to boats of fishermen, even during the low seas.
Integrated into the nature reserve of the Sado Estuary, the riverside village preserves an impressive network of staking that stretches hundreds of meters along the muddy estuaries of the river Sado.
A tourist attraction point, it is one of the most visited places in the municipality of Alcácer do Sal and one of the most famous spot for landscape photographers in Portugal.

Today celebrates the 100th day of my 365 project. It's somewhat of a milestone for me, so I figured I would put in just a tad more effort (which of course involved the stubby. Considering I lugged ALL this stuff outside was more than a miracle.
Nevertheless, as much as I'd love to ramble, reminisce, and ponder about my personal journey through the 365... let's just say it's not over. Cheers to 265 more days!

2023 has proven to be another very lean year, in photographic terms, due to the relentless bad weather, family life and shift work. As we rapidly approach the end of the year I thought it was time to once again reflect on some of my favourite shots of 2023 and having taken so little this year there wasn't a lot to choose from.
Yer tiz! My favourite shot of 2023 and unintentionally another 'death of the light' shot just like last years image of the Class 313 at Ford. Having been sat at home, some 15 miles west of this location and watching progress on the various apps I kind of resigned myself to the fact it probably wasn't worth heading out for this working due to the rubbish weather, or at the very least head to Branksome for a record shot (again). Then, an updated look at Sat24 revealed a hole in the cloud heading towards Christchurch, surely it was worth a go? And so I made my way here, arriving as the down train to Weymouth passed, knowing this move would be next and was only a couple of signal sections away. And thankfully the hunch paid off, not only for myself, but also for Nic Joynson who had also calculated there may be a chance. Passing in the briefest of light on 20 November 2023, under a most impressive sky is GBRf Class 56 No.56081 approaching Christchurch hauling four barrier vehicles, and 47727 trailing to the rear, running as 5O58 05:20 Leicester LIP - Bournemouth T&RSMD in the most fortunate of breaks in the cloud. The train will be used to convey South Western Railway Class 458 No.458524 to Alstom's Widnes facility for upgrade and refurbishment works.

I made this summer a good one.
I have lived during these past 100 days. after all the pressure that school had put on me was gone, I have finally had time to enjoy life.
I took pictures I would never have taken if it wasn’t for this project. I love some of them and I hate others. but the point of it wasn’t to take pictures I liked or to improve, it was to document my summer. and that’s what I did. every single one of those 100 photos makes me feel something when I look at them. because they remind me. and that is all I wanted.
the best part about it is that my summer isn’t over yet. but this project is and I’m happy about it. from now on I will only take pictures when I feel like taking them, but it will probably still be quite often. I will only upload pictures I want to upload and I will put more thought and energy into them. I enjoyed this project while it lasted and it definitely changed my summer for the better, but I knew that it wouldn't have such a big impact on me as my fifty two weeks project has before I started it. that one ends this week too and the missing pictures are almost ready to be uploaded, I just wanted to finish this project first.
today was quiet. Nina, Gregor, Seb and me slept over at my sister's house and later went to Gregor's to have breakfast. I came home at 4, ignored the mess in my room and tried out the 50mm f/1.4 lens Gregor has lent me. :) and now I'm off to meet up with them again.
it rained a lot and the sun didn't come out all day.
I felt like completing this project with a picture that goes with the one I took on the first day.

Into a new year and before you know it we'll be enjoying another excellent Swanage Railway diesel gala. Looking back at the 2024 event and incoming railtour titled 'The Jurassic Crompton' running as 1Z34 10:56 Waterloo - Swanage heads south away from Holme Lane on 9 May 2024 with Swanage Railways main line registered Class 33 No.33012 'Lt Jenny Lewis RN' in charge, GB Railfreight's 69002 'Bob Tiller CM&EE' is tucked inside, the Crompton looking and sounding great as it accelerates up the 1-in-78 gradient to Furzebrook. The tour is formed of the London Transport 4TC set, whilst to the rear is GB Railfreight's 73109 'Battle of Britain 80th Anniversary', although this locomotive would not be operating during the gala weekend.

The agave Americana was planted by early settlers for a variety of reasons, one being ornamental.
They take many years to flower, 25-30 is not uncommon.
They have the common name, "100 Year Plant".
Recent heavy rains must have triggered the right condtions as quite a number of the 'old' plants have quickly sent out flower sheaths.
Fully grown it will reach around 8-10 metres.
Sure to be a popular perching spot for the raptors in the area.
The Sandhill Crane is widely dispersed across the US and Canada with several localized breeding populations. Some are year round residents, while others migrate to northern breeding grounds. This individual is part one of the most northern breeding populations, photographed a over a hundred miles north of the arctic circle. This was not a species I expected to see in Alaska, and was immediately struck by the strong rusty tones in its plumage. I did a little research and found out that their coloration is in part due to iron stain from a diet that is largely among peat bogs and muskegs.
The midnight sun provides even more warmth to this summer tundra scene.
