It was one of those moments when you knew

something was going to happen,I was on the other

side of a busy road and I could see these window

dressers were going to move the mannequin by

holding it's bottom. I had a wide lens on the camera

and was too far away, I crossed the road at a run

(dodging traffic) and managed one shot before they

realised I was there. They both laughed. When I

arrived home I sent a copy to the shop, they replied

later saying that it was framed and on the shop wall.

I saw these two men at the kite festival trying to get this tiny kite aloft.....I couldn't believe they were serious, but they were.

Maybe I missed something......

A fun shot - that turned out into one that has got me quite a few acceptances in uk and international comps.

Der französische Künstler Saâdane Afif (*1970), der 2009 den renommierten Marcel-Duchamp-Preis erhielt, zeigt im MMK Zollamt seine erste museale Einzelausstellung in Deutschland. Der Ausstellungstitel entstammt André Bretons surrealistischem Werk "Anthologie de l’humour noir" von 1940.

Afif geht in der Präsentation afrikanischen Einflüssen auf die europäische Avantgarde nach und schafft Bezüge zur französischen Kunst- und Literaturgeschichte der Moderne. Er knüpft mit einem in Ghana gefertigten Sargmodell an einen jungen Brauch in dem westafrikanischem Land an, wonach figürlich gestaltete Särge an den Verstorbenen erinnern sollen. Das Sargmodell im Zentrum der Ausstellung im MMK Zollamt verweist in seiner Gestalt auf das Centre Pompidou und trägt den Titel "L'Humour Noir".

In der für ihn typischen Arbeitsweise hat Saâdane Afif namhafte Protagonisten der Kunstwelt dazu aufgefordert, Texte über den Sarg und seine eigenen daran anknüpfenden Gedanken zu entwickeln. Die Texte sind Teil der Ausstellung und bilden den kontextuellen Schlüssel zum Werkverständnis.

Eine Performance zur Ausstellungseröffnung macht diesen Zusammenhang für das Publikum erlebbar.
