Here's a behind the scenes look at my hummingbird slow mo video setup. I did a bunch of variations on this to get different angles and every time I changed it the hummingbirds wound act suspicious for awhile and then get used to it and relax.
I feel a bit bad this photo itself isn't more photogenic, but it does show the setup. I'll try to take some prettier behind the scenes shots next time ;-)
A hummingbird at normal speed and then slowed down to 8x slow motion (recorded at 240 fps and played back at 30 fps). Shot on iPhone 6s. Turn on the sound to hear it's wings humming and then slowing down to individual beats!
This little hummingbirds wings will flap maybe a million times in it's lifetime. These birds are amazing.

I think this species is Anna's Hummingbird? It looks like a Ruby Throated Hummingbird but Cornell Ornithology's bird ID app seems to think that species doesn't live in this area and suggests Anna's Hummingbird instead.
Hmm, seems like posting it here somehow un-trimmed it - I don't remember all that empty footage at the beginning and end. And when I trimmed I chose to save as new clip, so I don't know what else I could have done. Oh well. Posting videos from a mobile device is always a bit iffy.
Colorado Springs, CO - My favorite part of summer is most probably the return of the hummingbirds. I find this type of flower to make the best setting for their photographs, or at least the best I've found so far ...
TURN ON THE SOUND! This is probably my favorite hummingbird video yet. Shot on iPhone X using the tele camera, and you’ll see it first at real-life speed, and then slowed down by a factor of eight (recorded at 240fps 1080p).

I was photographing butterflies at some butterfly bushes when I heard the hummer wings whirling overhead.

While cutting back my overgrown lemon tree...a favorite place for the hummers to hang out in when they are not at the feeders, this little guy was in a hurry to get out of my way.

Colorado Springs, CO - I've already noticed fewer of these precious birds around as the summer draws to a close. In just a few more weeks, they will have left our area for warmer weather and I'll anxiously await their return again next summer ...
Colorado Springs, CO - We should be back to near Spring-like temperatures today so I'm taking another look back at my summertime hummingbirds ...
While preening this Male Rufous Hummingbird flashes it's colorful display long enough to capture this image.
