This Green-throated Carib hummingbird,
Eulampis holosericeus, was nectaring in the gardens at the St. George Village Botanical Gardens. It was the only hummingbird I saw in two hours at the arboretum and I suspect that was a result of the devastation on the island caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017.

The iPhone 6s has two options for slow-mo video built in: 120 fps at 1080p, or 240 fps at 720p.
This one starts at normal speed and then slows down to 240fps and 720p, which I think is definitely the better speed for hummingbirds. Compare to the last one which was 120fps, and see how much more slowed down this one is - you can really see the detail as the hummingbird hovers there.
I think the reason it takes so long to go in for the flower is that I had probably just adjusted my iPhone and tripod setup, and it was suspicious of this large object right next to the feeder.
Hummingbirds are birds native to the Americas and comprise the biological family Trochilidae. With approximately 366 species and 113 genera, they occur from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, but most species are found in Central and South America. Wikipedia

Dandelions
It’s not surprising that the densely packed group of florets, each producing a single seed, results in the familiar dandelion seed head. These can contain up to 172 seeds, but the plant blooms repeatedly through summer, and each plant can produce as many as 5,000 seeds in a single year. A dandelion seed is the plant’s mature fruit, known as a cypsela to botanists, and its parachute-like structure is known as a pappus. The pappus develops as the calyx of each floret dries and matures, so it serves two important roles for the plant.

Finally caught a Hummingbird in action ~ He is feeding on the Nectar of those green flowers from a giant succulent 's spike ~ San Diego ~ California ~ USA ~
We had temperatures in the neighborhood of 108 degrees this past weekend followed by a massive thunder and lightning storm early Monday. The unusual weather appeared to have unleashed a whole new flurry of activity around the feeders.

There was a lot of activity in the yard today. Broadbills, Annas and Costas chasing each other! Tucson, Arizona.
Allen's Hummingbird was collected by and named after Charles Allen (1841-1930), a collector and taxidermist who lived in California. He collected and sent a specimen to an ornithologist back east, who named the bird after him.
Later it was determined the someone else had described the bird many years earlier, but the name Allen's Hummingbird remained attached to the bird.
The grasshopper invasion in this area really did a number on some plants, but this hummer didn't seem to mind that at all! ;-)

I shot this video at 1080p and 120fps before realizing the other option was there. The resolution is nice, but the hummingbird is still moving pretty fast at this speed.
However, its still fun to see it calling / screaming even at this speed! They seem to spend half their time and energy trying to scare each other away from the feeders and absolutely refuse to share.

Managed to catch this hummingbird hovering next to the chili petin bush. I think it's probably a female black-chinned hummingbird.

About this high-speed Rufous Hummingbird in flight photo...the idea occurred to me, after a long while, that someone could possibly re-create this image with an expired hummingbird - and that gave me serious pause before posting. Your thoughts?

Hummingbirds migrate to Miami for the winter and migrate north in the spring, returning again in the autumn. (I replaced all the grass in my backyard with butterfly and hummingbird attracting plants and this is the result. No pesticides are ever used and all natural. )
