I hid behind a white pine tree to get this shot of the hummingbird. The sun was low in the sky, shining on the bird and the background was shaded. The result was the black background.

The hummingbirds have been putting on a good show this summer but it's been hard to get any decent pictures. I took this one morning when the sun was on a tree behind the hummingbird feeder. I was able to blur the background and did a tight crop.

Final set of shots for a while. Finally got some good photos of these guys flying.

The hummingbirds have been putting on quite a show for us this summer. We have three regulars and they are very territorial. This one was guarding the feeder and sat still long enough for me to get a picture.

Selasphorus calliope, Davis Mountains, West Texas, August 2018.

I am not crazy about feeder shots but this images shows how small this bird really is. Its only a bit larger than the bee hummingbird in Cuba.

Taken Summer 2017 @ either Green Springs, Huntley Meadows, Meadowlark Gardens or my backyard.
