Colorado Springs, CO - Here is another of my favorite summertime visitors from last year as I anxiously await their 2014 arrival ...
I think this is a juvenile Allen's rather than a female. When this one comes to feed, s/he allows me to take many shots and is not as untrusting as adults.
I have lots of Hummingbird shots to post.

We randomly stopped in at the Hotel TolimĂ¡n for a coffee, and we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was and how they had hummingbird feeders set up all around the lunch area so we could watch hummingbirds in beautiful tropical colors while we ate. If I had known, I would have brought my a6000 and telephoto lens, but instead I made do with my RX100v. You can see two hummingbirds at the feeder (as well as some bees), and an inlet of Lake AtitlĂ¡n behind them.
Hummingbirds tend to be very territorial, so instead of sharing these multiple plentiful feeders, they spend half their time chasing each other away from them. I took several high speed burst shots from this vantage point and got lots of photos with silhouettes of one hummingbird chasing another. I’d like to blend them into one photo showing lots of hummingbirds at once, but since it was handheld, I don’t think I’ll get good results out of a tool like StarStax that doesn’t do any intelligent matching of objects in blending. Any tips on how else to easily merge them?

This health conscious Anna's hummingbird appears to be reading the label on one of my hummingbird feeders. They prefer my plastic feeder and rarely use this glass/metal feeder. IMG_1369
There are many species in Costa Rica and I am not talking about hummingbirds. This is a bridge for so many species from all around the world, and many of them stay here.
You might find around 50 species of hummingbirds in Costa Rica. This is paradise for nature photographers.
Have you been to Costa Rica yet?

After church today, instead of watching football, I sat on the patio watching the hummingbirds. I was rewarded with a few good looks with which I am pleased.
While setting my camera for macro shots, a hummingbird arrived on scene to add flourish. I managed to grab this shot with my cell phone.
The hummingbird fledges should be busy doing this sort of thing to build up their strength for a long journey south.

The hummingbirds are active and are frequenting the feeders at my daughters house much more than those at my house. That is a good excuse to go visit my grandchildren regularly and get some action shots at the same time. This young male has taken ownership of one feeder and dominates it when others try to drink from it. Hilarious to watch!
