Male Anna's all ready for nesting season which should be starting soon.

I couldn't resist the opportunity to try and capture a hummingbird in flight whilst in St Lucia. However with so many plants in bloom and the speed with which these small birds travel it wasn't easy. This shot taken early in the morning of a female Antillean Crested Hummingbird was the best I could manage.

This hummingbird was run off by 2 others shortly after this was snapped out the window...nothing unusual about that.

We have started to see them over the past week or so.

Sue put up some newly acquired feeders today which now total 4. We found a super buy on them this morning at the local TSC. (Tractor Supply Store Canada)

They were quickly pressed into use.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird.... I think this maybe a juvie. I've had a little time to sit out with these guys and observe them. There is 2 adult males, which I am very surprised. I have never seen 2 males in our yard at once. I put out 3 feeders this year and put them all very far apart. There is also a female and at least one juvie that I have seen so far.

I don't like to photograph hummingbirds at the feeder but I liked the lighting on this bird. They didn't give me any other opportunities. Photographed this evening just before sundown. They landed within arms length after after I put my camera aside and after it was almost dark on a perch where I wanted to photograph them. Maybe another day. IMG_4265

I think this may be a young bird. Anyhow, it stayed around and gave me several nice shots, unlike the Rufous who just buzzed by and chased another hummingbird away, then disappeared.

We usually have a few hummers every year...this year it seems we only have one skittish female that visits here and there. Yesterday I took my camera out in the backyard to have near me in the event she showed while we were eating lunch...much to my surprise, she made my day with a visit to the lantana hanging basket and also to my crocosomia lucifer.

Well my trip ended up being cancelled, instead I ended up in emergency surgery to have my appendics removed on Tuesday night, returned home yesterday...

These hummingbirds were at a friends, maybe 30 to 40 of them!!

Will visit as often as my energy level allows!

The red tint is from the plastic rain hood over the feeder.

Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) on an acreage W of Duncan on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This was my first attempt at a flying hummingbird and I quickly realized that a shutter speed of 200 is not great. I guess you have to try once then learn from it.

Enjoying a pleasant cup of coffee in our yard this morning and I noticed this hummingbird zip up to our last gladiola. I managed four frames in the second it was there and then it was gone. My best guess is a female Black Chinned Hummingbird.

Here we are the next day, and that Hummingbird stills has that HONEY BEE SHISH KABOB on his beak. Or is it another Honey Bee?

I was beginning to wonder where the hummingbirds had all gone but I saw a few at flowers the other day and today this one came back to the feeder for some fresh mixture of just sugar and water.

I hope you know how much I appreciate your visit here to my page and any comments that you may leave. I may not get back to you all right away but I will try to as quick as I am able.
