After quite a while sitting and waiting patiently, together with many discarded photos, I managed to capture one of this hummingbird that I was satisfied with.
I came across 5 Anna's Hummingbirds at the feeders at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. Nobody was feeding but they were chasing each other off the favorite perches.
I stood behind my tripod and camera in my back yard last night in the dark and took photos of hummingbirds. Well, it was almost dark and that is why these photos are so grainy (noisy). I even got a few sharp photos at very low shutter speeds which surprised me. Nevertheless I deleted most of my shots. I saw at least 2 Anna's, 2 rufous, and 1 black-chinned hummingbird. They of course were chasing each other most of the time. A rufous chased the black-chinned just before I was able to snap a photo. I had a chickadee try to land on my tripod while I was taking the hummingbird photos. IMG_3493
The smallest hummingbird within its range, is found only in the mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama.
The first time I have ever seen a Hummingbird and I don't have my shutter speed fast enough. This is the only one that was sort of in focus.
Our tour finishes tomorrow and we have two days in Vancouver before flying home. It has been wonderful, but we are both feeling weary and it will be good to go home.
Captured in a natural environment, no flash setup, no baiting/feeders used...etc..

We are lucky here in the Pacific Northwest that it is mild enough for the the Anna's hummingbirds to overwinter. Here my local male is silhouetted at sunrise as he arrives at my back porch feeder to start feeding. Vancouver, British Columbia.

Las Galinas is home to numerous species of birds including ducks, birds of prey etc. Hummingbirds are also very much at home in this habitat. We spotted this little Anna’s Hummingbird as it took a quick break on a tree limb. Named after Anna Masséna, Duchess of Rivoli. In the early 20th century, Anna's hummingbirds bred only in northern Baja California and southern California. The transplanting of exotic ornamental plants in residential areas throughout the Pacific coast and inland deserts provided expanded nectar and nesting sites, allowing the species to expand its breeding range.
Female Anna's Hummingbird. Anna's hummingbirds are the only hummingbirds to spend the winter in northern climates.
Yeah... remember when I said, "I'm NOT posting another hummer shot for a while." ... well... um... I lied. =) I have three shots of him in this light and background. This is number two, I'm saving the best for last and I'm already chomping at the bit, as to when to post it.

The hummingbird hawk-moth is a small, day-flying hawk-moth. It is a summer visitor to the UK, migrating from Southern Europe.
This was the first time I have seen this moth, it was in my own garden too. Well pleased.
