See it large to see the tongue!

This male ruby-throated hummingbird was enjoying nectar in the front yard. I decided high-speed would work best, and it sure looked sharp. After getting it on the screen, I said, "Hey, look! That hummingbird is sticking out its tongue!", And sure enough--must be some tasty nectar.

Magnificent Hummingbird is a large hummingbird that found from Southeast Arizona to Panama. When perches on the tree, from time to time it flashes its iridescence plumage with purple crown, turquoise throat and black belly. It is the most beautiful hummingbird that I have seen in North America.

Seen in the early morning at the Audubon Center, Santa Fe, NM. Wonderful place for checking out the hummingbirds (broad-tailed and black-chinned) and songbirds (black-headed grosbeak, finches and warblers).

The sun was really low, but I hoped for one last chance to catch a hummingbird. Got this and am pretty happy with it.

This little guy is getting new feathers. He's also guarding his territory. There are only 5 or 6 hummers around right now. Some stay through the winter. As soon as another would fly into the front yard, he chased them off. They made me flinch a couple of times. Thought they were going to run into me. Posted a couple more of him following this one.

I manually focused for this shot because the little guy kept moving out of my center focus point, causing my lens to focus to the leaves in the background. I should really figure out a better way to use autofocus.
