Male Calliope Hummingbird in Jasper, Alberta, Canada. It's breeding time in the Canadian Rockies for these little guys.
We put out the feeder yesterday. The hummingbirds have already found it today. Pretty amazing.
Some of the other birds must have posted it on facebook. :-)
Some varmints (squirrels and raccoons) had torn down the previous feeders.

a frequent guest in our backyard. He stays in Southern California during winter, does not migrate to Mexico, like many other hummingbirds do.
This evening I heard a chittering outside and spotted this puffy white Hummingbird. I have had a female Anna's Hummingbird visiting my feeder lately so I suspect this may be her young watching Mom feed.
Another in the "thistle patch" series, the moth's at hover as it feeds.
First time I've caught this insect in flight, was lucky to catch the wings stopped at their apex.

I was shooting for about an hour in an effort to get some flight shots of these little birds, mainly from the back and side. It was a pleasure to see this one when I pulled it up to process.
Photographed at the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center In Holly Springs, Mississippi.
As I stood in a different part of our garden, this hummingbird decided to show off its in flight skill.
This is not a photoshop creation, although it was cropped in photoshop. One of the more aggressive male hummers swooped in to scare these fella's off, and knocked this poor fella over! I was lucky to have the camera in continuous shooting at the time.
It is amazing how territorial hummingbirds are. We have 5 of them that have been fighting for the feeder.
I wanted to freeze them in flight so I used two flashes very close to them on low power (1/64). I would like to work on a better shot of them before they head south for the winter.
A pair of hummingbirds looking at each other in Tucson, Arizona in the Sonoran Desert. Several species live here year-round, and in summer there may be over a dozen species viewable and accessible in the nearby mountains. More hummingbirds in Photostream and/or Hummingbird album.
This picture was taking in Dominica at mine and my wife’s wedding meal, we were just sitting down to a glass of champagne, when the hummingbird appeared behind us.
