As I was strolling around my backyard gardens, I noticed this determined little ruby throated hummingbird was very angry with a yellow swallowtail for drinking her nectar.

My winter resident Ruby-throated Hummingbird was kind enough to pose for me earlier this year. I submitted this image in our local Wild Birds Unlimited photo contest. The contest requires that the the image show both a bird and a product that you can buy from the store. The contest winners are chosen by a popularity contest as customers come into the store throughout the month.
This image won second place, and while I would have loved to have made first place, my friend Paul Hueber won that prize with his Painted Bunting image. I'm losing track of how many years he's beaten me! It's hard to compete against a male Painted Bunting. Congratulations, Paul!

Shot 3 in set from Wakanki Orquidiario - Golden-tailed Sapphire with other unidentified hummingbird behind. I couldn't have asked them to line up better than this.
twyla had a great doctor visit..her tummy felt good on palpation, lymph nodes normal...heart murmur no change...her oncologist was very pleased with how well she is doing & did talk to us about two chemotherapy drugs that he would like to try on her....they will be compounded together and given on a daily basis...she will go off steroids now.... there's no promise that these drugs will have any great help with her cancer , but he fells is well worth the try and so do we...theres always belief , hope & faith...
we send our love & will update soon
Difficult little fellows to capture! SHot these with a Sigma 150-500mm (at 500mm) at very high ISO (1600) due to bad light. We put out a new hummingbird feeder and it's already luring in a few different birds.
A very small tongue protrudes from the beak of a female Ruby-throated hummingbird. I have had lots of fun photographing these petite wonders.

Update: Thanks to Brennan this bird has been identified.
Took this shot (2 total) a couple weeks ago through my arcadia glass door. The feeder is on my back patio which is partially shaded. The hummer has a red/pink spot on its throat. I'm unsure of what hummer this is, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :)
