Communicating Monologues

(being there is everything)

Leave Alexa or Google Assistant in your smart home alone to conduct monologues and continue collecting data. Deactivate Siri or Bixby on your mobile toy and listen to the music of Blonk and Klammer and their Communicating Monologues.

Both artists have been working with language and voice for many years: Jaab Blonk with BLIPAX (BLonk's IPA eXtended) and its algorithmic sound poems, and Josef Klammer with Text To Speech software and the precise defectiveness of these speech prostheses. They generate their music digitally and analogously from the International Phonetic Alphabet, from phonemes, words, letter sequences and punctuation marks.

In this project Blonk and Klammer congenially merge synthetic and human voices into a concert night for soloists and choirs full of onomathopoeology.

Excuse me where’s the humanity? Its limits are fading….

This morning we went in the country for a bit like every morning..

Suddenly a shot…

I thought: “it’s September, the hunt begins…”

And anger started rising in me..

My dogs got anxious for those far shots …

We went to our usual end point in the field before coming back to the street again and……..

A HUNTER!

Behind a bush with his gun on his shoulder…

He said: Good morning!

He looked embarrassed (I bet)

But I just looked the other side, disgusted, without saluting him…

My girls started barking at him… I let them speak a bit and then I said…

“let’s go this one has to kill some innocent animals, congratulation for your humanity”

And I added along the way:

“I hate you all (hunters), you are so desperated going out in the morning to kill poor little birds….with no reason…you do not need to hunt for food, they are little and with no gun…”

They are horrible, if they need to shoot to remark their superiority …go in war, face armed enemies….

I want a certificate to say officially that I’m not human..

If you are hunters I didn’t mean to offend you, but THINK….

A bird flies in the morning, with no guilt and gets killed by a man who has nothing to do in his life?

The bird has all the same rights to live, cause no one said humans are the best….

Have a nice day my human friends….

From todays shoot for college.

Having a little Photoshop fun. I'm going to be dabbling in graphic art more to compliment my photography.

Human Nature: The Motown Show

Talk about being in the right place and right time… I was lucky enough to shoot Human Nature on the 10th of November 2014. Bright, colourful and always moving.. it was a challenge and not with my favourite equipment.. but I am pretty happy.

Here’s a little about the show.. Enjoy the photos!

Voted “Best Singers” by the Las Vegas Review Journal and Trip Advisor’s #1 show in Las Vegas, Human Nature: The Motown Show is one show not to be missed.

The critically acclaimed quartet puts a modern twist on classic Motown hits, featuring songs by the Four Tops, the Supremes, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and more. They’ll have you dancing and singing in the aisles as you remember exactly why these songs are timeless. “Stop! in the Name of Love”, “Reach Out”, “ABC” and “My Girl” are just a few of the Motown favourites you’ll hear during this 90-minute, high-energy trip down memory lane.

In 1993 convicted murderer Joseph Paul Jernigan was executed. Having donated his body to scientific research, he was preserved and cut in to 1,871 slices as part of the 'Visible Human Project', to provide high resolution, cross section images of the human anatomy. www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/visible_human.html

Using these images in the form of a video animation vimeo.com/21515164 coupled with long exposure photography. It is possible to recreate and extrude a holographic representation of his body.

Please note that the idea for this shot was taken from project 12:31 www.project1231.com/ Follow the link for the original idea and more detailed information.

Edited illustration from the Library of Congress of an advertisement for a popular lecture given by Professor W. G. Alexander on human nature (it could have well been about skull tattoos). I don't know if this is about phrenology (yuck) or just an illustration of the various aspects of a human personality...

With a little practice Noéma got really good at this. Observe that she's the only kid still upright.

I don't have the time or ambition to keep up a picture a day/week project. Instead I plan to document the buildings that make up the University of Wisconsin Madison campus. 100 is a nice round number.

As part Holocaust Memorial Week a special Human Library was created by students, staff and members of the local community including people from Colchester Mind and homelessness charity Emmaus Colchester. The Human Library in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall Foyer gave people a chance to understand and find out about people with a potentially very different view on the world. The aim is to bring together people from different backgrounds to foster interaction and challenge prejudice.
