Few spaces embody the frenetic pace of 21st century travel as forcefully as the international departures lounge at Terminal 1 of Pearson International Airport. At the locus of Canada’s busiest hub, amidst the crowds, lines, gate changes, and luggage, the elemental presence of Tilted Spheres emerges from the tile floor, as if out of geological time. Stepping inside the curved steel walls, the terminal din is modulated into a soft, intimate soundscape. Depending on where you stand, you might hear a fellow traveller’s whisper in your ear from across the hall. It is a moment of escape without escapism, where the life of the airport is distilled into a sort of steel womb. I feel more present than ever. In any case, it’s my favourite part of flying.

It’s signature Richard Serra. There are no screws, bolts, supports, or weld marks. Instead, the curved, blackened steel rises from out of the floor with a monolithic and almost otherworldly grace. In fact, the terminal lounge — opened in 2004 — was specifically designed to accomodate the concave sculpture, which spans over 12 metres in length and stakes a central place at the intuitive heart of the building’s circulation. But what does it all mean? While the scale and sanctity of Serra’s forms invites comparisons to temples and places of worship, the spirituality of it all is visceral, personal, and open to interpretation. As Serra put it, his work is best experienced by “walking and looking.”

The house sparrow is strongly associated with human habitation, and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, and deserts away from human development. It feeds mostly on the seeds of grains and weeds, but it is an opportunistic eater and commonly eats insects and many other foods.
Emil Ferris is one of those humans who you can just sense their utter brilliance. I literally think it's an amazing gift to share the same respiratory space with such an amazing human. I was thrilled to be able to speak to Emil after the Q and A following The Music Box Theater's documentary of Art Spiegelman entitled Disaster is My Muse (This should be available on PBS in the upcoming months according to the director)
I was telling Emil Ferris about this nonfiction book I was reading called Beyond Anxiety by Martha Beck, who speaks about how a creativity cycle can disrupt an anxiety cycle. I think many of us artists in this current political climate are feeling increasingly restless and hopeless. Channeling that into art is a good idea at this time.
In any case, this is a great film and Emil Ferris's My Favorite Thing is Monsters (Book 1 and 2) is absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommended!
In these current times, the monsters are humans who have been given absolute power to enforce their wills and desires on all. Every day is a new horror and destruction of human rights. Some will try to counter this by praying ceaselessly. Others, like myself, will continue to maximize their time on Earth by doing art every spare moment. It is perhaps the only way to cope with the madness of reality and maybe enough of us could create a new world out of the embers left.

El Acueducto de Segovia es una de las obras de ingeniería romana más impresionantes y mejor conservadas del mundo. Se ha convertido en el símbolo por excelencia de la ciudad de Segovia y es Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO desde 1985.
Aquí te detallo sus características principales:
Origen y función: Fue construido en el siglo II d.C., probablemente a finales del reinado del emperador Trajano o principios del de Adriano. Su objetivo principal era transportar agua desde el río Frío, ubicado en la Sierra de Guadarrama a unos 17 kilómetros de la ciudad, hasta Segovia. El agua se utilizaba para abastecer a la población, fuentes y termas.
Construcción sin argamasa: Lo que hace aún más asombrosa esta obra es que está construido con unos 20.400 bloques de granito perfectamente encajados sin usar ningún tipo de argamasa (mortero o cemento). La estabilidad de la estructura se basa en un ingenioso sistema de equilibrio de fuerzas y en la precisión del corte y colocación de cada sillar.
Dimensiones y estructura:
Longitud total: Aproximadamente 16 kilómetros desde su toma de agua hasta la ciudad.
Altura máxima: En la Plaza del Azoguejo, su punto más emblemático, alcanza su mayor altura, superando los 28 metros.
Arcos: Está compuesto por un total de 167 arcos, muchos de ellos de doble orden (dos filas de arcos superpuestas), sostenidos por pilares. La luz de los arcos es de unos 4,50 metros.
Canal: El agua discurría por un canal de unos 25 x 30 x 30 cm con una ligera pendiente que permitía el flujo constante del agua.
Recorrido: El acueducto recorre diferentes terrenos, adaptándose a la orografía. La parte más conocida y monumental es la arquería que cruza la Plaza del Azoguejo, salvando una importante depresión del terreno. Antes de llegar a esta zona monumental, el agua pasaba por desarenadores para eliminar impurezas.
Conservación y uso a lo largo de la historia: A pesar de tener casi dos milenios de antigüedad, el Acueducto de Segovia se mantuvo en funcionamiento y transportando agua a la ciudad hasta el siglo XX (algunas fuentes mencionan hasta 1973). A lo largo de los siglos ha recibido reparaciones y reconstrucciones, como la importante obra realizada en la época de los Reyes Católicos, siempre respetando la técnica y estética originales.
Significado cultural: Más allá de su valor ingenieril, el Acueducto de Segovia es un testimonio vivo del poder y la sofisticación de la civilización romana, y un símbolo de la resistencia y la historia de la ciudad. Su imponente presencia sigue maravillando a visitantes de todo el mundo.

The docks around the Oslo Opera House have been rebuilt with human rocks. Despite all modern ingenuity, the result is rather boring and predictable. Economic considerations are prominent.

In April of this year, Nightwish released their 9th album titled 'Human Nature'. Like their previous albums the whole CD resolved around one theme, in this one it focused on our behaviour. And for the first time, it was a double CD. The first CD contained songs with lyrics, the second one is purely instrumental. And also in the tradition of the Band, the composition are very variatious, influenced by many different styles and each of the songs takes a surprising turn or catches you off guard. I have spent hours listening to it, each time discovering a new nuance or catch the meaning of the lyrics a bit deeper. This song fits perfectly with the end of fall and the harvest season. It is also the first song focused on Troy Donockley, the multi instrumentalist, and he shines with his soft vocal and warm singing voice while Floor Jansen and Marco Hietala provide back up vocals. In all the songs on this album those three provide vocals in addition to their instrumental talents. And Marco and Troy don't need to shy away from the spotlight either, each of them a talented singer in their own way. This band oozes talent, it isn't fair 😊 Tuomas really has a huge pool to create his composition from and I can't wait to see them perform finally once this CoVid madness is over
