More than fifty moms, dads, kids and grandparents braved the rain Wednesday to show their support for the Midwives of Centre Medical and Surgical Associates in State College, PA. The midwives, whose practice is being shut down by the board of CMSA so that they can hire more obstetricians, were celebrated with signs and balloons and a big shout of "thank you" when one of the midwives came out from her office. The H.U.G., or Humans United in Gratitude, was planned and sponsored by the State College Birth Policy Coalition and "birthcircle: stories of positive birth," two local birth activist groups that support the Midwifery Model of Care.
People who support midwives can write letters to both CMSA and Geisinger, in response to this situation.
Copies of the form letters are available by writing to: midwives.equal.options@gmail.com

This is my response to Disco~Stu's call for hugz. He was having a rough day, and he needed a hug, so here is a slightly delayed photo hug. But I'm not limiting this to Stu only. This is a hug to all of my flickr friends. You folks are fantastic, and you keep me on my toes! Thanks!

Student organization Physicians for Human Rights was spotted at the Student Center with plenty of big hugs, small hugs, group hugs, and high-fives.
I spent the night in Jay's room one night while he was out of town. I left him a card with this little guy on the cover, and the sentiment "Nothing is sadder than being in hug position with no one to hug" on the inside.
I like the notion of "hug position". It is much more natural to me than first position of fifth position (my mom was a ballet teacher. I am NOT a ballerina).
