Light show in Beaubourg by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, called "A la belle étoile". The 10mn show will be projected every night from 7pm to 8am until Feb. 26. Tip: pretend you're going to the restaurant on the 6th floor and stop at the 5th floor, which is opened and from where you can see the show from above without any glasses interfering :-) The previous link is also offering a webcam of the show.

Steveston Beacon - www.grantmurrayphotography.com/

View it LARGE here: tinyurl.com/confpsx

This is a 30 second exposure of a beacon in Steveston, which is a great little fishing village in Richmond, British Columbia.

I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop soft grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.

Steveston is a really great little place to visit, with awesome fish and chips, if you stay away from the touristy spots :-)

I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast and detail in the clouds, reflections and water.

The techie stuff:

Sony A850 D-SLR

Zeiss 24-70mm Lens

ISO: 160

Aperture: f/9

Exposure: 30 seconds

Focal Length: 24mm

Filters: Hitech Pro 10 stop ND filter, Lee 3 stop hard ND filter and a Lee 3 stop soft grad ND filter

Processing: Photoshop CS6 and Google Silver Efex Pro 2.

And to answer that question unequivocally: it depends! :-P

Okay okay, the girly over-the-top part of me would say: NO, there is never too much pink!

I myself don't have much stuff in pink, but I'm always so envious of girls who can pull off the cute candy pink look without it looking so sweet that your teeth will spontaneously start to rot.

The realistic take-a-good-look-in-the-mirror who-do-you-think-you-are part of me would say: YES, there is such a thing as too much and you (meaning me) of all people should take care not to overdo it!

Anyway, internal debates aside, I thought I'd solve the issue by wearing a cute summer cocktail dress that's white with a cool pink pattern. What do you think? Faux-pas avoided? :-P

Of course, I gotta have high heels.. and the only pink heels I had in my collection were these peep-toe stilettos by Bershka. I got them in a sale for 10 euros a couple of months ago, just waiting for a summer evening and a dress like this. :)

Was very lucky when I went down to the harbor area in Bergen the night of 14th october ... the sky started to light up with the Aurora Borealis dancing ... ahh ... was a magical night - once in a lifetime experience of being at the right spot at just the right time - It doesn't happen very often that we can see northern lights this far south - and in Bergen without skies to cover it up (It's on the western part of southern Norway who gets a lot of rain). And even better - almost no wind ... made me shooting pictures for 2+ hours ... so here is a timelapse from that night ... :)

VIDEO: Another indoor dress modelling session. Yep, I know.. boring! ;-)

Bloggity blog blog: Just a couple of quick snaps of each dress.

First of all, I hope everyone had a great Christmas weekend! Mine was spent at my parents' place with lots of good food, general cosiness and lots of Christmas movies including classics like Home Alone (1 and 2), The Santa Clause (1, 2 and 3), Die Hard, A Muppets' Christmas Carol. :-D

I had two sponsored occasions already.. and this 3rd one is courtesy of Shein. I chose 3 cute dresses, but uhm.. they're more suited for hot summers!

I'm not going to bore you with three separate posts, especially because I shot these photos indoor. Not too exciting. So here are all three dresses + links!

El Matador's Avocado and Chicken Soup

From the menu of . . . El Matador

4316 Chamblee Tucker Road, Chamblee

Q: My wife and I love good soup, and one of our favorites is the Avocado and Chicken Soup at El Matador restaurant in Tucker. Is it possible to get the recipe?

- Jim Chambers, Tucker

A: Only in America! Where else can a Jordanian immigrant come to a country, work on an assembly line in an electronics plant, become good friends with immigrants from Mexico, develop a fondness for Mexican culture, music and food and then open a restaurant specializing in Mexican, with a touch of Middle Eastern cuisine? That is the story of Ismail Sirdah, who came here 17 years ago from Jordan, is now an American citizen and owner of El Matador, a casual Tex-Mex restaurant that boasts everyday fresh ingredients.

It's fall now and summer seems like a distant memory. Though I have been busy working, I did get to enjoy the warm and sunny days.. and I did get to wear my pretty dresses and sexy shoes! And better yet.. my friends were willing to photograph and film during those days! ♥

For this day, I wore this blue dress. And since it was a warm and sunny day, I actually took the effort of painting my nails, both fingers and toes. I have lots of other nailpolish colours so I should try them all before it gets too cold.

And I love these high heeled sandals.. they might seem high, but they walk soooo comfortably.. just watch the video for proof! :-P

Grand Teton National Park at Oxbow Bend, along the Snake River.

People ask me why or when do you shoot a scene in the 'landscape' orientation (horizontal) or in the 'portrait' orientation (vertical). I discuss this in detail in one of my free landscape articles--see below. Most landscape shots are framed horizontally, because that fits best with the scene. The choice for the serious nature photographer is more complex. The first decision you must make is, what is the end purpose of the shot? A calendar image is almost always shot horizontally. A magazine cover is shot vertically. For this shot, I did both. Follow the link below to see the horizontal image of this scene.

www.flickr.com/photos/wwwca/3669960447/

From looking at the two images of the same scene shot seconds apart, you can see how different they are. One encompasses the entire scene--the forest, the river, the snow-capped Teton mountains and the ducks are very small. It is a 'grand' scene. The shot above, the vertical one, 'zooms in' and focuses on Mt Moran and its reflection on the Snake River. Here the ducks are more of an important part of the scene--a secondary compositional element.

When I approach a scene like this, I try to always shoot it both ways and then process them to get the best out of the shot. If Outdoor Photographer magazine ever wants a magazine cover of Oxbow Bend, I have it. ;>) Please feel free to call!

Also note the 'placement' of the ducks in the version above. Now as a nature photographer, I did not swim out into the Snake River and 'place' the four ducks. As the patient nature photographer, I waited for the duck to place themselves for this shot. While my photography partner James Neeley was making his way along the river's shore taking many great images, I was setup on my tripod and just waiting for the ducks to swim into place. Then I snapped away, horizontally and vertically. One of the most important things I like to teach about nature photography is the 'art of waiting'. James Neeley, Jeff Sullivan, Kevin McNeal and I will be teaching a landscape and nature photography workshop here next June.

Here's an image taken a while back up at Strumble Head lighthouse in Pembrokeshire. Despite the dark vibes I actually took this in early morning light as the moon was setting behind the lighthouse.

It was one of those images that wasn't quite happening in colour but revisiting it a year and a half later in dark monochrome I think it works a lot better. Looks like a fireball passing over the lighthouse to signal the approaching armageddon??!

Some things just look better Large and on BLACK…… Enjoy!!!

Alright my fiends, I guess my crystal ball is trying to tell us something and it has something to do with waterfalls in South America. Yes it’s the wonderful location of Foz do Iguacu with it amazing Iguacu falls which is located on the border of Brazil and Argentina.

As you can see, I don't always do summer dresses and short skirts! I wanted to go for a super casual outfit, but I did buy these awesome grey over-the-knee boots... and since I was wearing a grey cardigan, it seemed like a no-brainer to wear these boots!

Have a nice day!

More readin' and picture gazin'!

This is from a while ago when I was walking around in the Belgian forest together with two of my friends, Julie and Iris.

They both wore practical boots with a low heel. Me.. being me... opted for 5 inch high heeled booties. Why? I have no idea! :P

More expired film and chemicals! Paulina, Poland

I don't like wasting things and when you by a 5L C41 Tetanol kit you get 100ml of each chemical left if you make 2x 1L batches. Today I decided to add some open but recent 100ml developer to some open from 2018 developer and try to develop some film. I didn't mind Lomo / wacky colours as standard correct colours can often be quite boring. I developed 1 roll as I was not sure if I would get anything and my times and temps were "common sense" and not by the book. I was delighted to see photos on the first roll, which dates back to 2016! so I developed 5 more rolls.

Hey, Flickr! It's been a long time, it seems, since I've seen you. I couldn't let the year end without peeking in to wish you a Happy New Year!

Goodbye to 2015, a year that has been overwhelming in every way. My new year's resolution is to find a way to make 2016 more bearable. Also, I want to try and retire, yessssss that's what I said, in 2017. I've thought about it and decided life is short .... and another year like this one I don't need. There are so many things I want to do with the rest of my life!

Anyway, wishing you and yours a warm, happy, and prosperous new year, my friends. Hope to see you soon!

Lazlo Woodbine kindly showed me this fantastic photo opportunity today. He found the scene yesterday totally flooded and got his picture in the local paper. The flooding had improved today but the fantastic light in the evening made the scene excellent.

See Lazlo's excellent panorama of it HERE

Thanks to Lazlo.

"Stand and stare."

"What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare."
