I am not sure of uploading this one, I am not sure about the final processing. I wanted to go for some "Hostel look". I would love to know what you think.
Technical note: The image is a triple exposures tonemapped in Photomatix. Furthermore, a few layers of curves, levels, a lot of hue/saturation, added a vignette.
Location: The island Trälen, on the west coast of Sweden.
Camera: Canon 350d with the fabulous Sigma 10/20 @ 10mm
Base exposure: 1/3s at f/8 ISO 100 on my new Gorilla pod.

Hello flickr, how have you been?
Thank you all for the well-wishes and emails during my absence. I'm fine, I've just been lazy. I needed to check out for a while, and I did just that. It's likely I won't be around as much in the near future: its winter and I seem to lose a lot of motivation. I have a hard time finding the beauty in things when I can't feel my toes and its dark @ 4:30pm. I'm still trying to shoot and I've got lots of archive stuff (see above) so I don't think I'll be going dormant. A photo a day seems like a bit of a stretch though.
Photographically speaking, 2009 was a pretty amazing year for me. Much of my success is due to the amazing network of contacts and friends I've developed here. Your commentary and criticism is fantastic, your work is inspiring. All of you drive me is some way to become a better storyteller through photos. You all rock, I really can't thank you enough.
So, Happy (much belated) New Year. I wish you the very best in 2010, I cant wait to see what you have to show in the coming year!

Ein Yantra gilt als Repräsentation des Göttlichen und kann als physischer Ausdruck eines Mantra betrachtet werden: Das Mantra stellt einen Aspekt des Göttlichen in Form eines Lautes dar, das Yantra dagegen in Form einer geometrischen Figur.
Besonders im Glaubensleben von Anhängern der Shakti, der weiblichen Form des Göttlichen, spielt dieses Diagramm eine wichtige Rolle: Man zeichnet es z. B.auf den Boden, auf Papier oder ritzt es in Metallplättchen. Diese Zeichen stellen den formlosen Aspekt der Göttin dar. In der Anbetung, einer Puja, können sie anstelle einer Statue oder eines Bildes im Zentrum stehen. Durch das Rezitieren von Mantren manifestiert sich nach Ansicht der Gläubigen die Göttin selbst darin und ist durch sie anwesend.
Yantras sind stets rein geometrische Figuren, im Unterschied etwa zu Mandalas, die auch ikonische Repräsentationen beinhalten können - teilweise besteht auch die Auffassung, dass Yantras Mandalas beinhalten.
Allen Yantras gemeinsam ist eine äußere Umschließung durch sogenannte "Mauern", im Inneren gibt es starke Unterschiede je nach Yantra / Gottheit. Das Sri Yantra, das bekanntestes Yantra, enthält neun ineinander verschlungene Dreiecke, von denen vier Shiva und fünf Shakti repräsentieren.
Im weiteren Sinne bedeutet Yantra im Hinduismus allgemein die Verwendung externer Objekte, Symbole oder mechanischer Methoden zur Verehrung des Göttlichen. In diesem Sinn stellt Yantra einen der drei Pfade der Spiritualität im Hinduismus dar, die beiden anderen sind Mantra und Tantra. Dabei steht Yantra für den Pfad losgelöster Handlung, Mantra für den Pfad der Erkenntnis und Tantra für den Pfad der Hingabe.

Sea lions are pinnipeds characterized by external ear flaps, long foreflippers, the ability to walk on all fours, short, thick hair, and a big chest and belly. Together with the fur seals, they comprise the family Otariidae, eared seals, which contains six extant and one extinct species (the Japanese sea lion) in five genera. Their range extends from the subarctic to tropical waters of the global ocean in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, with the notable exception of the northern Atlantic Ocean. They have an average lifespan of 20–30 years. A male California sea lion weighs on average about 300 kg (660 lb) and is about 2.4 m (8 ft) long, while the female sea lion weighs 100 kg (220 lb) and is 1.8 m (6 ft) long. The largest sea lion is Steller's sea lion, which can weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) and grow to a length of 3.0 m (10 ft). Sea lions consume large quantities of food at a time and are known to eat about 5–8% of their body weight (about 6.8–15.9 kg (15–35 lb)) at a single feeding. Sea lions can move around 16 knots (30 km/h; 18 mph) in water and at their fastest they can reach a speed of about 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph). Three species, the Australian sea lion, the Galápagos sea lion and the New Zealand sea lion, are listed as endangered. 61535

This is from a series of photographs. They are an unusual and lighthearted idea strongly influenced by Gardens & Gardening.
Gardeners Don’t Do It In Wellies.
A series of photographs by me Simon Hadleigh-Sparks gardener, with the cooperation of his fellow colleagues who all work at Syon House, Park & Gardens, London as gardeners or estate workers. The concept was Simon‘s and the initial idea was to learn more about his love of photography especially about ‘people‘ photography and this then evolved into a lot of fun with friends but also a team building activity as more co-workers became involved and wanted to take part.
The basic concept concerns garden workers at a stately home, there roles and interests and taking their joy of work to the extreme…… Sounds tacky but all workers here love their job and are happy to wake up each morning. The majority of staff also live at Syon.
Syon is a 200 acre private stately home estate not far from the centre of London.
This will hopefully happen again as many more colleagues have shown an interest.

A little hole in a piece of paper and a minimalist sketch, I took the photo this afternoon.
One world meeting another, imagination versus the blurred and strange reality.
I was sort of inspired by Plato's "Allegory of the Cave": Plato imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to seeing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not constitutive of reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.
The Allegory is related to Plato's Theory of Forms, wherein Plato asserts that "Forms" (or "Ideas"), and not the material world of change known to us through sensation, possess the highest and most fundamental kind of reality. Only knowledge of the Forms constitutes real knowledge. In addition, the allegory of the cave is an attempt to explain the philosopher's place in society.

Fortement inspiré par une réalisation de mon pote Pascal (www.facebook.com/165527553561758/photos/pb.16552755356175...), j'ai souhaité y realiser ma version "esquissé" qui vient s'ajouter au reste de la série.
Depuis mon enfance, le dessin a toujours été une passion, mais lorsque j'ai découvert la photographie, j'ai pensé que l'association de ces deux passions pourrait me permettre de laisser libre court à mon imagination.
Dans cette serie "L'esquisse d'une vie", j'ai voulu illustrer ma vie, comme si mes croquis avaient donné naissance à chacun de ses actes; soit par l'intervention de personne qui me sont proches (comme par exemple dans "sketch your mentor" avec l'intervention de ma grand mère qui m'a appris le dessin), ou encore des événements qui on été importants pour moi (comme dans "sketch the life" avec la naissance de ma fille "Cataleya"), mais également avec des choses un peu plus humoristique (dans "Catch & Sketch" par exemple avec l'intervention de mon ami Cal Redback, mais aussi "sketch and fight" avec un combat de deux artistes avec chacun sa technique)
Since my childhood, drawing has always been a passion, but when I discovered photography, I thought that the combination of these two passions would allow me to give free rein to my imagination.
In this series "The sketch of a life", I wanted to illustrate my life, like my sketches gave birth to each of his actions or by the intervention of someone I are close (for exemple in "sketch your mentor" with the intervention of my grandmother who taught me in the drawing), or events that have been important to me (like in "sketch the life" with the birth my daughter "Cataleya"), but also with something a little more humorous (in "Catch & Sketch" for example with the intervention of my friend Cal Redback, or in "sketch and fight" with a battle of two artists with each his technique)
