I took a shot and felt uneasy: there was really a weird sense of them being after me, vaguely threatening, oppressive, like an army of zombies with no face in the backlight ! A second later, the pattern broke down and they were just people enjoying the late sun...

The software I use to process HDR just came out with an update. They should of called it 4.0 instead of 3.2 because it feels like more then just an update. I have posted this photo before but I turned it into a black and white because I wasn't happy with the color coming from it. NOW I am. I like what the update has done and can't wait to shoot some HDR and give it a go.

Une lumière magique by Mathieu rivrin

Il y a quelques semaines, je vous avait proposé une photo prise avec mon téléphone de cette soirée. Voici donc la version avec le réflex.

De toute les lumières que j'ai pu photographier, celle ci était la plus extraordinaire.

Je suis allé sur la commune du Conquet au niveau de la presqu'île de Kermorvan. Une fois sur place, les grains se succédaient à l'horizon et 1h avant le coucher du soleil la lumière était déjà très bonne.

Au fur et à mesure que le temps passait, les grains se rapprochaient de moi et la lumière grandissait.

Au point qu'au moment où le grain arrivait sur moi, le soleil se couchait au loin dans des nuages très graphiques et une lumière jaune, orangée, rougissant les rochers. Les vagues s'écrasaient sur la côte dans une forte houle. La mer était creusée, très contrastée mais avec de supers reflets.

Au loin, les pêcheurs rentraient en direction du Port du Conquet. Voilà pourquoi je fais de la photo : pour vivre ces moments là !

Something sillier today. Can't believe I've done 50 of these things. Kinda crazy when I think about it. It's been both the best and the worst thing I've ever done. It's been fun, and it's been hell. I've had good days and bad. Some days I've loved the camera and other days I've loathed it. But I don't regret having started it :) Here's to another 315 more pics.

PS Thankyou to everybody who's supported and motivated me so far - every single one of you have helped more than you'll ever know. Thanks for keeping me sane!

Buddhism in Thailand is largely of the Theravada school. Nearly 95% of Thailand's population is Buddhist of the Theravada school, though Buddhism in this country has become integrated with folk beliefs such as ancestor worship. Thai Buddhism was based on the religious movement founded in the sixth century B.C. by Siddhartha, later known as the Buddha, who urged the world to relinquish the extremes of sensuality and self-mortification and follow the enlightened Middle Way...... The focus of this religion is on man, not gods; the assumption is that life is pain or suffering, which is a consequence of craving, and that suffering can end only if desire ceases. The end of suffering is the achievement of nirvana often defined as the absence of craving and therefore of suffering, sometimes as enlightenment. Like in most other Theravada nations, Buddhism in Thailand is represented primarily by the presence of Buddhist monks, who serve as officiants on ceremonial occasions, as well as being responsible for preserving and conveying the teachings of the Buddha.

Suphan Buri is an ancient town in Thailand rich in culture and historical temples. The word Suphan originates from the Sanskrit word Suvarna, meaning gold, and the word buri from Sanskrit Purī, meaning town or city. Hence the name of the province literally means City of Gold. Suphan Buri might be the site which is mentioned in very old Buddhist writings. Wat Chi Suk Kasem above is a monastery, located in Changwat Suphan Buri, Thailand, a building and grounds where a community of monks lives in seclusion. .

Het overgrote deel van de Thaise bevolking, zo’n 95% is boeddhist. Men hangt het zogenaamde Teravada-boeddhisme. In het Theravada wordt meditatie benadrukt als een essentieel onderdeel van het pad naar verlichting, samen met moreel gedrag en wijsheid. Het brengen van een einde aan het lijden is het hoofddoel van het Theravada boeddhisme. De Boeddha legde verder een zeer gedetailleerde gedragscode voor de Monniken neer: de Vinaya. Over het algemeen worden monniken door de Boeddha aangemoedigd om wereldse aangelegenheden en passies achter zich te laten, zodat zij gemakkelijker in staat zijn een staat van vrede en wijsheid te bereiken, en sterke ongezonde emoties zoals haat, verlangen en lust te overwinnen. Een Monnik zoals hierboven in z'n oranje gewaad, kaalgeschoren en met sandalen aan de voeten is niet meer weg te denken uit het straatbeeld van Thailand.

Er wordt van iedere jongeman verwacht, dat zij een poosje (van een week tot enkele maanden) als monnik leven. Zo tussen hun schooltijd en hun werkende leven in. Het wordt beschouwd als een overgangsrite en zij verwerven op die wijze aanzien voor zichzelf en hun familie.

A Volvo driver with odd habits by Ben The Man

I came across this old stickered Volvo at the Jacob Catskade in Amsterdam. You might wonder how this started. Did it start with a sticker on a rusty spot or scratch? I used to have such stickered room door. What will you do with a sticker gift and you want to paste it somewhere? This is not what we call car advertising. Car stickers is the cheapest and most obvious way to make advertising. I guess in this case it doesn't work. But if you love the decorate your car with stickers and it's a hobby of yours they can not refuse it or give you a fine. But even if you do not like it. It starts when you go to Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic or Hungary. Your entire windshield is so plastered with autobahn vignettes. Then there are the necessary safety vests in the car, alcohol testers, spare glasses and extra triangles etc. Next, the entire back of the caravan stickered with speed indications, warnings length and even more. Then in one country a fire extinguisher in the car, in the other country is a first aid kit required. Why do we have European Commission in Brussel? To each country to establish its own sense and nonsense niceties that the average traveler does not know what he needs and what is and is not required? In one country dim light on mandatory during daytime, in the other country emission sticker on the windshield, if there is any place left between all other autobahn vignettes. Let the politicians and officials in Brussels agreed to wake up and just meet European rules. This car is a good protest.

Why do all cars look alike? Well not this unusual vehicle at the Kattensloot in Amsterdam. An old stickered Volvo car, something crazy, strange and absolutely unique.

Ik kwam deze oude bestickerde Volvo tegen op de Jacob Catskade in Amsterdam. Je vraagt je af hoe dit begonnen is. Is het begonnen met één sticker op een roestplek of kras? Vroeger had ik ook een kamerdeur die zo bestickerd was. Je krijgt een keer een sticker cadeau en je wil hem ergens op plakken. In ieder geval valt dit niet onder de autoreclame. Autostickers is wel de goedkoopste en duidelijkste manier om reklame te maken. Maar op deze manier lukt dit niet. Maar…als je dit doet omdat je het mooi vind en het een hobby van je is om je auto met stickers op te sieren ze kunnen het niet verbieden en of je een boete opleggen. Maar zelfs als je het niet mooi vindt. Het begint al als je naar Oostenrijk, Zwitserland, Tsjechië of Hongarije gaat. Je hele voorruit zit zo volgeplakt met autobahnvignetten. Dan moeten er nog de nodige veiligheidshesjes in de auto, alcoholtesters, reservebrillen en extra gevarendriehoeken etc. Vervolgens moet de hele achterkant van de caravan bestickerd worden met snelheidsindicaties, lengte waarschuwingen en weet ik wat er allemaal nog meer op moet. Dan moet er in het ene land een brandblusser in de auto zijn, in het andere land is een EHBO-doos verplicht. Waar hebben we Brussel voor bedacht? Om ieder land zijn eigen zin- en onzinregeltjes te laten opstellen, zodat de modale reiziger niet meer weet wat hij wel of niet nodig heeft en wat wel en niet verplicht is? In het ene land verplicht dimlicht overdag, in het ander land milieusticker op de voorruit, als er nog plek is tussen alle reed aangebrachte autobahnvignetten. Laat die politici en ambtenaren in Brussel eens wakker worden en gewoon europese regels afspreken. Deze auto is mooi voorbeeld als protest.

The Seine river was very high this week-end, flooding part of the banks. Amazingly, this guy was there, sitting alone on his bench ! I had noticed him from far, sitting there, but without a zoom (or very high boots !), my only chance was to walk and shoot from the top . I actually waited for some boats to cross in order to get a "bigger" wave and in the meantime, he had lied down. He was obviously very relaxed about the situation and curiously, he had a compass in his hand ?! He was quite young and didn't really look like some homeless person, no idea what he was doing there...

Wayne was laboring in the fading light, pushing his bike and his cart with scrap metal up a long hill. He was racing to reach the metal yard before it closed. At the top of the hill he stopped and gave me a big smile and hug, “Working, always working.”

He had told me before of his struggles, of his heart attack brought on by coke, of losing fingers to the cold, too high to notice the freezing metal searing to his hand. He still does drugs, he still is homeless, and he is still polite, happy, and gracious. He repeated what he always tells me,

“I am blessed. I am still here. Many others have gone. I am blessed. We are all blessed."

You can be a gentleman regardless of your situation.
