Il collettivo britannico Archive in italia per una data unica con il nuovo album The False Foundation, sabato 26 novembre al Fabrique di Milano
A poco più di un anno dall’ultimo tour nel nostro Paese, tornano in Italia gli Archive per una data unica con il loro Kings of the False Foundation Tour, sabato 26 novembre al Fabrique di Milano per presentare il nuovo album The False Foundation, in uscita il 7 ottobre!
Collettivo britannico che mescola progressive rock, trip-hop, elettronica, psichedelia ed ambient, gli Archive nascono nel 1993 a Londra da un’idea di Darius Keeler e Rosko John, ai quali poco dopo si uniscono Danny Griffiths e la vocalist Roya Arab. Nel 1996 esordiscono con Londinium, un mix di trip-hop, elettronica e breakbeat che li affianca ad artisti come Massive Attack e Portishead. Il moderato successo di critica non impedisce a Rosko John e Roya Arab di lasciare la band; quest’ultima viene sostituita da Suzanne Wooder, insieme alla quale l’ensemble dà alle stampe Take My Head. Gli avvicendamenti all’interno della formazione non hanno fine e, dopo tre album insieme a Craig Walker, nel 2004 Keeler e Griffiths decidono di trasformare la band in un collettivo di artisti individuali che offrono il loro contributo per mantenere vivo il tradizionale sound degli Archive. Ad oggi gli Archive hanno all’attivo la colonna sonora del film Michel Vaillant (2003), tre compilation, sette live album, tre EP e dieci album in studio, l’ultimo dei quali è per l’appunto The False Foundation.
Oltre ai due fondatori Darius Keeler (testi, sintetizzatore, piano, programming, arrangiamenti) e Danny Griffiths (testi, sintetizzatore, campionamenti, programming, arrangiamenti), ad oggi il collettivo Archive comprende Pollard Berrier (testi, voce, chitarra, programming, arrangiamenti), Dave Pen (testi, voce, chitarra), Maria Q (voce), Holly Martin (voce), Steve Harris (chitarra, cori), Jonathan Noyce (basso), Steve “The Menace” Davis (basso), Steve “Smiley” Barnard (batteria), Mickey Hurcombe (chitarra) e Tom Brazelle (armonica).

Beti Utsav is a community celebration which takes place every three months in several areas in New Delhi. It is a festive gathering of community members who come together to celebrate the birth of girls in their neighbourhood.
In India boys are valued far higher than girls, so much so that many women face pressure to have an illegal sex determination test, and if they are having a girl, also face pressure to abort the foetus. The latest census showed that there were only 914 girls to every 1,000 boys across India.
On a Beti Utsav celebration, ActionAid’s partner Action India, goes into the community to sing songs, give out sweets and visit the homes of families of girls who are less than three months old. Ladoos (an Indian sweet) are usually distributed when a boy is born in the family, so these are given out on Beti Utsav celebrations too, and tin plates (thali) are drummed to make noise.

En 1988 se descubrieron de forma accidental los restos del teatro romano de Carthago Nova, edificio del que no había constancia histórica ni arqueológica, ya que su emplazamiento es uno de los lugares de la ciudad de Cartagena donde la actividad humana ha estado siempre presente a lo largo de su historia. Sobre los restos del teatro se han ido superponiendo diversas edificaciones, entre ellas la Iglesia-catedral de Santa María la Vieja, hasta ocultarlo totalmente. El proyecto de recuperación, además de restaurar el monumento, ha impulsado la regeneración de una de las zonas más degradadas de la ciudad.
Según Moneo, su proyecto crea "un modo de convivir con el pasado y hablar de continuidad". El factor sorpresa desempeña un importante papel para los visitantes que comienzan el recorrido en el Palacio Pascual de Riquelme -de mediados del S. XVIII renovado en 1908 por el arquitecto T. Rico Valarino con la elevación de una planta y ornamentación al gusto modernista-, en la Plaza del Ayuntamiento, centro neurálgico de la ciudad, y terminan en una pasarela al aire libre sobre el foro del teatro (S. I A.C.). El proyecto, realizado por el Estudio de Moneo, contempla la integración de los restos arqueológicos en el tejido urbano y su adecuada conservación y exposición con fines didácticos y culturales, un nuevo espacio museístico, además de la adecuación y urbanización del espacio exterior situado tras el teatro, un magnífico fondo paisajístico para el monumento. El Parque Cornisa con sus terrazas ajardinadas constituye la prolongación natural de la colina del Cerro de la Concepción, e incluye las cubiertas de las capillas dieciochescas de la Catedral Vieja estableciendo un nexo de unión entre los restos medievales del Castillo y el complejo Catedral/Teatro Romano.
El Museo se concibe como el desarrollo de un itinerario desde el centro de la ciudad, a nivel del mar, que subiendo interiormente culmina la visita con la inesperada aparición del imponente graderío del teatro, salvando 25 metros de altura y el ancho de dos calles. Este paseo discurre a través de espacios expositivos iluminados por un complejo sistema de lucernarios, que sirven de marco a la presentación de las piezas encontradas en las campañas de excavación.
El Museo se desarrolla en dos edificios unidos por un corredor dispuesto bajo la calle. El primero, tras la fachada del Palacio de Riquelme, se organiza en torno a un patio a modo de impluvium. El segundo, entre las medianeras de la calle General Ordoñez, alberga las Salas de Exposición y los elementos de comunicación vertical hasta la cripta arqueológica bajo Santa María la Vieja. El recorrido museístico explica, en orden inverso, la evolución urbana del solar del teatro del siglo XXI al siglo I, desde el Barrio de Pescadores (siglos XVIII al XX), siguiendo por el Arrabal Viejo (siglos XVI-XVII), la Medina de Qartayanna al Halfa, el barrio portuario de época bizantina, y la transformación del teatro en mercado a mediados del siglo V d.C. Mediante una recreación virtual el visitante llega a entender cómo esta sucesión de barrios a lo largo de la historia borraron cualquier referencia del teatro romano antes de su excavación.
La Sala 1 da las claves para entender la arquitectura del edificio teatral, y su altura ha permitido recrear el primer orden de la fachada escénica con los elementos originales. La Sala 2 se dedica a exponer las funciones del Teatro en la Antigüedad. La conexión del Museo con el monumento se realiza a través de otro corredor bajo la iglesia de Santa María, el denominado Corredor Arqueológico, mostrando la evolución del templo mediante la visión de sus cimentaciones, del siglo XIII al XIX; también se observa un tramo de la muralla de la medina islámica, y las adiciones realizadas tras la conquista cristiana, además de los restos de una vivienda romana anterior a la construcción del teatro. Finalizado el corredor, una pasarela metálica adosada al paramento exterior de la Iglesia conduce hacia el Teatro. Desde este punto se tiene una visión completa del Teatro, cuya geometría se ve remarcada por la restitución del muro de cierre, y el fondo paisajístico del Parque de la Cornisa. Su disposición en la ladera del cerro facilitó la construcción de la cavea, con una capacidad para 7.000 espectadores, que en su parte central aparece excavada en la roca, mientras que los flancos laterales se apoyarían en galerías abovedadas. Frente al graderío se sitúa la fachada escénica, en parte restituida a partir del análisis de las improntas y de los elementos arquitectónicos. Los trabajos de restauración han seguido criterios orientados a la comprensión del monumento, por lo que ha sido necesario reponer con obra nueva aquellos restos que habían desaparecido por completo, sin alterar su fisonomía; mientras que se ha consolidado y dejado visible toda la obra original conservada. Tras completar la visita al monumento, la salida se realiza por el aditus occidental que conecta directamente con la Plaza de la Condesa Peralta.
La Restauración del Teatro Romano ha sido Premio Europa Nostra 2010 a la Recuperación del Patrimonio europeo, Premio de Arquitectura de la Región de Murcia 2010 y Premio Ar&Pa 2010 de Intervención en el Patrimonio Histórico entre otros.

I went out early one morning hoping for some nice fog mixed with a colorful sky. I didn't get the colorful morning sky, but with each different day comes new possibilities. This is a comp of the houseboat at Lake Martin that I've never tried before. I kind of like it.

Das 360° Panorama wurde erstellt mit einem Dreibeinstativ und einem provisorischen Nodaladapter aus 3 horizontalen plus 1 Nadiraufnahme 8 mm Fischaugenaufnahmen mit Hugin. Die Nadiraufnahme wurde "ohne" Stativ erstellt.

The Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahellis), sometimes referred to as Western Yellow-legged Gull (to distinguish it from eastern populations of yellow-legged large white-headed gulls), is a large gull of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, which has only recently achieved wide recognition as a distinct species. It was formerly treated as a subspecies of either the Caspian Gull L. cachinnans, or more broadly as a subspecies of the Herring Gull L. argentatus. It is named after the German zoologist Karl Michahelles.
It is now generally accepted that the Yellow-legged Gull is a full species. The breeding range is centred around the Mediterranean Sea. In North Africa it is common in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and increasing in places. Recent breeding has occurred in Libya and Egypt. In the Middle East a few breed in Israel and Syria with larger numbers in Cyprus and Turkey. In Europe there are colonies all along the Mediterranean coast, and also on the Atlantic islands and coasts north to Brittany and west to the Azores. It also breeds on the west side of the Black Sea; here it overlaps with the Caspian Gull but there is a difference in habitat, with the Yellow-legged Gull preferring sea cliffs and Caspian Gull on flatter shores. In recent decades birds have spread north into central and western Europe. One to four pairs have attempted to breed in southern England since 1995 (sometimes hybrid pairs with Lesser Black-backed Gulls), though colonisation has been very slow.
Many birds remain in the same area all year round but others migrate to spend the winter in mild areas of western Europe or head south as far as Senegal, the Gambia and the Red Sea. (wikipedia)
The species is quite common along the Portuguese coast. There was a big evening roost of YLGs on the local beach near where we were staying this summer. A handful of Audouin's Gulls were also in amongst them.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene (église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, or less formally, La Madeleine), is a Catholic parish church on Place de la Madeleine in the eighth arrondissement of Paris. It was planned by Louis XV as the focal point of the new Rue Royale, leading to the new Place Louis XV, the present day Place de la Concorde. It was dedicated in 1764 by Louis XV, but work was halted due to the French Revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte had it redesigned in the neoclassical style to become a monument to the glory of his armies. After his downfall in 1814, construction as a church resumed, but it was not completed until 1842. The building is surrounded on all four sides by Corinthian columns. The interior is noted for its frescoes on the domed ceiling, and monumental sculptures by François Rude, Carlo Marochetti and other prominent 19th-century French artists. The exterior and interior of the church are undergoing a major project of cleaning and restoration, which began in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2024. As of this writing, it is continuing with many months of work remaining.

When Maggie posted a beautiful shot of lemon blossom it reminded me of the pomegranate blossom I had seen whilst on a wild orchid walk in Cyprus last year. It also reminded me that as a child we would be given half a pomegranate & a pin to pick out the fruit. It took ages & certainly kept us quiet. Maybe that's why they did it lol!

The Freer Gallery of Art joins the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery to form the Smithsonian Institution's national museums of Asian art. The Freer and Sackler galleries house the largest Asian art research library in the United States and contains art from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Islamic world, the ancient Near East, and ancient Egypt, as well as a significant collection of American art.
The Freer houses over 26,000 objects spanning 6,000 years of history from the Neolithic to modern eras. The collections include ancient Egyptian stone sculpture and wooden objects, ancient Near Eastern ceramics and metalware.

The large bronze Jockey of Artemision is one of the highlights and most popular sculptures displayed in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. It depicts a young boy riding a galloping horse, capturing a dynamic and dramatic moment frozen in time.
This exceptionally rare example of Hellenistic bronze artistry dates from around 140–130 BCE. Like the Artemision Zeus, it was re-discovered off Cape Artemision.
The horse is in mid-gallop, its muscles tensed and mouth open as if breathing heavily. The boy, significantly smaller in scale, sits bareback on the powerful horse. The statue stands 2.1 meters (6 feet 10 inches) tall.

Amazing view of Mnt. Edith during sunrise in Jasper National Park. It is 20 min driving from Jasper town and another 15 min hike. The summit is inside the cloud and it looks like that most of time in the morning. Angel glacier on the right side is much larger live than it looks in the picture with huge wing span. Ice wall retrieves at an increasing speed every year. The ice cave at the right side is what the ice wall stood last year.
