I never expected to be able to do this type of photo with my "Powershot SX40"... there was a full moon that night, and so many stars could not be seen!

Carrer d'en Bosc is the oldest street of Sitges. It is the old way of round that followed the profile of the wall, to that were leaned these houses of 14th century.
El Carrer d'en Bosc es el rincón más antiguo de Sitges. Se trata del antiguo camino de ronda que seguía el perfil de la muralla, a la que estaban adosadas estas casas del siglo XIV.

Sitges’ name comes from the Pre-Roman word "sitja" that means "deep hole or grain warehouse". Already before the Neolithic period, the first Sitgetans dwelled in the place known as cave point, (past the Terramar Golf Club) and at the La Punta (the Point) headland, where the church and town hall are today. The archaeological remains found recently show that an Iberian settlement already exited there back in the 4th-3rd century BC. Present studies confirm that there were two small town centers in Sitges back in the 1st century. One around the La Punta headland and another at the Vinyet chapel. Joined together with Roman Olérdola, Sitges’ port was a point of exchange for products between the Penedés region and other places from the Roman Mediterranean.
The castle, located at the top of the La Punta headland, today the Town Hall, built on the foundations of the ancient castle in 1889, was first owned by the Barcelona Seo, or cathedral, which ceded it by fief to Count Mir Geribert (1041). In the 12th century, Sitges was under the fief of the Sitges’s, a family that adopted the town’s name as their own last name. The Sitges family has been documented from 1116 up to 1308. The family’s last member, Agnès de Sitges, sold her fief rights to Bernat de Fonollar, who was Lord from 1306 to 1326. After the death of his second wife, Blanca de Abella, by testamentary decision, Sitges was placed in the hands of the Pia Almoina (an almshouse) until 1814. Bernat de Fonollar was a knight who was directly related to King Juame II’s court. The tombs of both this nobleman and his wife are in the Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla church, on the left-hand side as you enter. During these centuries, Sitgetans’ lives were organized around the bastion headland, where the parish church, cemetery, hospital, castle and a small group of houses were, all surrounded by a first enclosure and connected to the rest of the town via a bridge over calle Mayor, or Main St. The rest of the village consisted of Nou, Tacó and Carreta streets, that lead down to the sea and all had their respective gates, L’Aigua street with another gate and Devallada street. The presence of these gates shows that the entire village was surrounded by a second rampart. It is also known that there were 3 towers located at the Bastion, behind the old Hospital (today the Maricel Museum) and Bosc street, possibly built in 1303. They are part of the Sitges Coat of Arms.

Los primeros sitgetanos habitaban, ya antes del neolítico, el lugar conocido como la punta de las cuevas (pasado el golf Terramar) y en el promontorio de la Punta, donde hoy se encuentra la iglesia y el Ayuntamiento, los restos arqueológicos encontrados últimamente demuestran la existencia de un asentamiento ibérico ya en el siglo IV-III AC. Los estudios actuales constatan que en el siglo I, en Sitges habían dos pequeños núcleos de población. Uno alrededor del promontorio de la Punta y otro en la ermita del Vinyet. Unida a la Olérdola romana, el puerto sitgetano sirvió de intercambio entre los productos del Penedés y de otros lugares del Mediterraneo romano.
El castillo, situado en lo alto del promontorio de la Punta, hoy Ayuntamiento y que fue construido sobre los cimientos del antiguo castillo en el 1889, tuvo como primer propietario la Seo de Barcelona que lo cedió en feudo al conde Mir Geribert (1041). En el siglo XII, Sitges estaba bajo el feudo de los Sitges, familia que adoptó el topónimo de la villa como apellido. La família Sitges está documentada desde el año 1116 hasta el año 1308. El último miembro de la família Agnès de Sitges vendió sus derechos de feudo a Bernat de Fonollar que fue señor desde 1306 al 1326. The archaeological remains of Stabiae were originally discovered in 1749 by Cavaliere Rocco de Alcubierre, an engineer working for king Charles VII of Naples. These ruins were partially excavated by Alcubierre with help from Karl Weber between 1749–1782. The ruins that had been excavated, however, were reburied and their location was forgotten until 1950, when a high school principal rediscovered them. The site was declared an archaeological protected area in 1957, and by 1962 many of the ruins had been again uncovered. The remains of both an Oscan settlement (oppidum) and the later Roman town were discovered.
The most famous of the findings at Stabiae are the villas that come from the time between the destruction of Stabiae by Sulla in 89 BC and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.As described above, Stabiae became a resort town during this time and was particularly favored for its view of the Bay of Naples and the surrounding mountains. Stabiae was also well known for the quality of its spring water, which was believed to have medicinal properties. The ideal placement and qualities of this location drew many wealthy Romans to build luxurious villas on the ridge overlooking the bay.
Among the many villas found at Stabiae, the most famous are Villa San Marco, Villa Del Pastore, and Villa Arianna. Some of the other villas include Villa Carmiano, Villa del Petraro, and Villa Capella di San Marco.
Villa Arianna
Named for the fresco depicting Dionysus saving Ariadne from the island of Dia (a mythological name for Naxos), this villa is particularly famous for its frescoes, many of which depict light, winged figures.[2] It is difficult to get a clear sense of this villa, however, because it grew over the course of 150 years. It has one of the largest courtyards of any Roman villa; measuring two stadia in length. Another feature of Villa Arianna is its private tunnel system that links the villa in its location on the ridge to the sea shore, which was probably only between 100 and 200 metres away from the bottom of the hill in Roman times. The shoreline has since changed, leaving the archaeological site further inland than it was in antiquity.

Swayambhunath (Devnagari: स्वयम्भूनाथ स्तुप; sometimes romanized Swoyambhunath) is an ancient religious complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. It is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are holy monkeys living in parts of the temple in the north-west. The Tibetan name for the site means 'Sublime Trees' (Wylie:Phags.pa Shing.kun), for the many varieties of trees found on the hill. However, Shing.kun may be a corruption of the local Newari name for the complex, Singgu, meaning 'self-sprung'.
For the Buddhist Newars in whose mythological history and origin myth as well as day-to-day religious practice, Swayambhunath occupies a central position, it is probably the most sacred among Buddhist pilgrimage sites. For Tibetans and followers of Tibetan Buddhism, it second only to Boudhanath.

We decided to hit up a beach and grab some shots. It ended up being a little tough because for one, there aren't a lot of beaches in WA besides going to the coast (too far for that) and two, the available beaches are always super crowded and even then aren't very big. This worked out great though. I have tons to upload..

Lifecaster creates buzz

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The media buzz began swirling around Justine Ezarik after she received her first iPhone bill, one that itemized her text messages and calls across both sides of 300 pages.
Stories about the young woman and her fascination with mobile technology were picked up by USA Today, CNN, Fox News and CNBC, as well as hundreds of other media outlets, after she posted on her Internet blog a self-made video about the $274 bill so thick it came in a box.
“A friend of mine was in Spain and opened up a newspaper, a Spanish version: the iPhone bill with my picture on it,” said Ezarik, 23, a Scenery Hill native who is the current “It girl” on the Web.
The digital world took notice of Ezarik, who uses the screen name ijustine, in a big way in August. The short film about the bill was subsequently viewed more than 3 million times in 10 days and earned her $5,000 in ad revenues from her online host.
“Now I’m signed up for E-billing,” she said.
But the Internet never dies and ijustine is along for the ride while building a huge fan base.
She was the lead story on Yahoo’s home page two weeks ago because of the popularity she has gained from lifecasting her daily chores on two Web sites.
Whether capturing her travels from a mini-camera attached to her ball cap or pointed at her face from a table, Ezarik has become the star of justin.tv.
The new media company is the brainchild of Justin Kan, who is among the first to use mobile technology to stream live videos to a Web site. Broadcasters have free access and personal control over the look of their pages and the ability to chat with viewers.
There were more than 400 people tuned in when Ezarik showed up Monday to meet a reporter and cameramen from the Observer-Reporter at the Crazy Mocha coffee shop in Washington.
Most of her viewers say nice things, and some periodically dare her to perform the Chicken Dance polka in public places. She usually complies and breaks into the dance that requires hand signals to suggest duck quacks. She was drawing as many as 4,000 viewers at any particular moment after the Yahoo story hit.
“This is crazy. Why am I doing this?” she said.
Others have not been so nice, and complained that she has odd eyebrows, wears too much makeup or is too self-centered to think that anyone with a brain would want to watch her sleep.
“Many of her critics urged her to ‘get a life,’ ‘read a book’ and cease her ceaseless self-promotion,” a writer noted Aug. 29 on the popular news blog Pittsburgh Dish.
“People like to hate for whatever reason,” Ezarik said.
While some viewers think she is surfing the Internet while running her fingers through her hair at a coffee shop, Ezarik said she actually is editing videos or designing Web sites for her business.
The graduate of Pittsburgh Technical Institute now lives in Pittsburgh and also is spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Councilman Bill Peduto. Through her blogging, she has landed a job with Xtrain, a company that offers online expert training. Just this week, Warner Brothers was trying to track her down to invite her to appear on “The Tyra Banks Show.”
She’s unsure just how much longer she will be sharing her life with the digital world as a lifecaster.
“A lot of my friends don’t like it when they’re around. It’s too invasive,” she said.
But her father, Steve, of Scenery Hill, said he is beginning to like lifecasting in a era when many children Justine’s age forget to call their parents.
“At least we can follow her around,” he said.

Yesterday evening around sunset I got *the jitters*... I was tired from work, would I go out with the camera or stay in? I saw some interesting cloud activity so I decided to give it a go and bike in the direction of Overschie to see if *something would happen*.
What I found was a stunning double rainbow, some of the weirdest light and clouds I ever saw and... the decision to flee back home or stay, shoot and get completely soaked as a bonus.
I decided to stay and get washed away. :) Here's the first part (which is actually part II, err nevermind) of what I saw and experienced yesterday only *just* before sunset. Enjoy your weekend, and yes... I'll be catching up soon!

Creamy Lemon and Raspberry Tart

Notes: Think soft custard/flan meets lemon meringue filling with raspberries; it's very *tart.* But, the pate sablé helps to round out the flavor with a mellow, buttery sweetness.
I have always wanted to eat at Café Boulud. I look forward to eating there some day; especially now that Gavin Kaysen is the Chef de Cuisine.

Finally had a chance to edit this shot.
Went out for a photo walk this morning at 5am. This shot was taken about 6:30 as the sun was climbing around some buildings and was rising through a sort of soft orange haze. Made for great soft light. Off the the museums now. More later. Cheers....or Ciao.

This one took me a couple of tries before I really figured out what I wanted to do with it. I knew I wanted something with bright colors - something I've never really done before, not counting a few Mac clones I put together - and with a higher image:text ratio on the taskbar. But the rest took an unusual amount of trial and error.
I'm really surprised by how much I'm liking the double-height taskbar. I'll probably go back to the single eventually, but it's nice to discover the flexibility. What I've done here is created artificial space for a few Rainmeter skins by adding the Quicklaunch and Links toolbars, which are, of course, empty. I suppose this could easily be mistaken for a Windows 7 taskbar; I'll have to try and duplicate it once I've made the switch. Liquid Crystal Discourse
I proooooomise, I still plan to start posting regularly on my customization blog. It's just a matter of finding the time; I'm fortunate to have been kept busy working on Enigma, Rainmeter 1.0, and a few other projects. But there are a couple desktops in the Lifehacker pool that I'm interested in featuring in the near future, so I hope you'll keep an eye on it. :)
