A lot of people have asked what comes next.
The answer? We don't know any better than you do.
I know that I met this amazing, funny, sweet person, and I'm completely wild over her. That I've had her in every minute of my life for the last week, and that every minute felt right. And that tomorrow everything changes.
After that?
I really can't say. I wish I knew. Really, we're taking it minute by minute and sometimes it feels like we're spinning out of control.
We say our strange goodbyes and go back to phonecalls and webcams - the technologies that once seemed fresh and exciting are a step backward; a step apart. It's going to be hard. I know that much.
I'm hoping a California trip is in the cards.
But I can only see as far as Monday. School begins. Xelia will be gone. We're left with memories and marks; a cold spot in the bed where someone is missing.

A house in a Conservation area, with the project consisting of a loft extension at the rear gable roof and a kitchen rear extension.
The loft extension will be a zinc roof cover with a 2 windows and a roof light to allow natural light into the central part of the house. The metal colour of the zinc will match the colour of the window frames, for an integrated aesthetic. The proposal will also remodel an extent of the interiors but this interior work will not require planning. The kitchen design will elongate the kitchen and a sliding fire door will be created in the design to create a protected stair. The living room will
include a new fire door to form a protected stair as well.
The rest of the house include renovations to ensuite bathroom, a larger closet, children's bedrooms and bathroom extension.
Honestly, it was journey and a good lessons learned. Some lessons include
1. Making 100% sure before the contractor is hired that they will comply and sign a contract with the client. Here they did an agreement and this is where everything goes wrong, including massive changes of the design, without my knowledge. Many rooms as not as I designed them.
2. Even without a contract to contract adminstrator, I should have been on site every week, as the stair design was completely messed up by the contractor, even though the drawings show something aligned. Samples of every material should have been taken before being applied on the walls, ceilings etc. The children's room was designed without wood, for example.
3. Looking at details such as unaligned downlights and light in the complete different location, not as per drawings at hand.
4. Using a closet and kitchen supplier right away and just laying out the idea, which I mostly did.
5. Getting the client's full trust in designing items as we went through the architectural stages, rather than designing later on with the contractor.

L'Agulhas - where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. It means Cape of Needles (referring to the jagged rocks of the coastline and also the fact that a compass shows no real deviation between true north and magnetic north at this spot). L'Agulhas gets its rich heritage from the shipwreck survivors of many nationalities who settled in this desolate place. Please read more about it on the link above.
There was a 5 minute window period in an otherwise stormy day. It seemed fitting to take this picture. This was taken a couple of winters ago. I can't wait for winter to arrive - can you tell? :)

Sitges, Barcelona (Spain).
Carrer d'en Bosc is the oldest street of Sitges. It is the old way of round that followed the profile of the wall, to that were leaned these houses of 14th century.
El Carrer d'en Bosc es el rincón más antiguo de Sitges. Se trata del antiguo camino de ronda que seguía el perfil de la muralla, a la que estaban adosadas estas casas del siglo XIV.
ENGLISH
Sitges’ name comes from the Pre-Roman word "sitja" that means "deep hole or grain warehouse". Already before the Neolithic period, the first Sitgetans dwelled in the place known as cave point, (past the Terramar Golf Club) and at the La Punta (the Point) headland, where the church and town hall are today. The archaeological remains found recently show that an Iberian settlement already exited there back in the 4th-3rd century BC. Present studies confirm that there were two small town centers in Sitges back in the 1st century. One around the La Punta headland and another at the Vinyet chapel. Joined together with Roman Olérdola, Sitges’ port was a point of exchange for products between the Penedés region and other places from the Roman Mediterranean.
The castle, located at the top of the La Punta headland, today the Town Hall, built on the foundations of the ancient castle in 1889, was first owned by the Barcelona Seo, or cathedral, which ceded it by fief to Count Mir Geribert (1041). In the 12th century, Sitges was under the fief of the Sitges’s, a family that adopted the town’s name as their own last name. The Sitges family has been documented from 1116 up to 1308. The family’s last member, Agnès de Sitges, sold her fief rights to Bernat de Fonollar, who was Lord from 1306 to 1326. After the death of his second wife, Blanca de Abella, by testamentary decision, Sitges was placed in the hands of the Pia Almoina (an almshouse) until 1814. Bernat de Fonollar was a knight who was directly related to King Juame II’s court. The tombs of both this nobleman and his wife are in the Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla church, on the left-hand side as you enter. During these centuries, Sitgetans’ lives were organized around the bastion headland, where the parish church, cemetery, hospital, castle and a small group of houses were, all surrounded by a first enclosure and connected to the rest of the town via a bridge over calle Mayor, or Main St. The rest of the village consisted of Nou, Tacó and Carreta streets, that lead down to the sea and all had their respective gates, L’Aigua street with another gate and Devallada street. The presence of these gates shows that the entire village was surrounded by a second rampart. It is also known that there were 3 towers located at the Bastion, behind the old Hospital (today the Maricel Museum) and Bosc street, possibly built in 1303. They are part of the Sitges Coat of Arms.

El nombre de Sitges proviene de "sitja" de procedencia prerromana que significa "hoyo profundo, depósito de grano". Los primeros sitgetanos habitaban, ya antes del neolítico, el lugar conocido como la punta de las cuevas (pasado el golf Terramar) y en el promontorio de la Punta, donde hoy se encuentra la iglesia y el Ayuntamiento, los restos arqueológicos encontrados últimamente demuestran la existencia de un asentamiento ibérico ya en el siglo IV-III AC. Los estudios actuales constatan que en el siglo I, en Sitges habían dos pequeños núcleos de población. Uno alrededor del promontorio de la Punta y otro en la ermita del Vinyet. Unida a la Olérdola romana, el puerto sitgetano sirvió de intercambio entre los productos del Penedés y de otros lugares del Mediterraneo romano.
El castillo, situado en lo alto del promontorio de la Punta, hoy Ayuntamiento y que fue construido sobre los cimientos del antiguo castillo en el 1889, tuvo como primer propietario la Seo de Barcelona que lo cedió en feudo al conde Mir Geribert (1041). En el siglo XII, Sitges estaba bajo el feudo de los Sitges, familia que adoptó el topónimo de la villa como apellido. La família Sitges está documentada desde el año 1116 hasta el año 1308. El último miembro de la família Agnès de Sitges vendió sus derechos de feudo a Bernat de Fonollar que fue señor desde 1306 al 1326. Despues de la muerte de su segunda mujer, Blanca de Abella, Sitges pasó, por decisión testamentaria, a manos de la Pia Almoina y lo fue hasta 1814. Bernat de Fonollar fue un caballero directamente relacionado con la corte del rey Jaume II. Las tumbas del noble y de su mujer están en la iglesia de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla, entrando a mano izquierda. La vida de los sitgetanos de estos siglos se organiza alrededor el promontorio del baluarte, donde estaba la iglesia parroquial, el cementerio, el hospital, el castillo y un reducido núcleo de casas, todo cerrado por un primer recinto y conectaba con el resto de la villa por un puente encima de la calle Mayor. El resto del pueblo lo conforman las calles Nou, Tacó y Carreta que manaban al mar y estaban cerrados por sus respectivos portales, la calle de l'Aigua con otro portal y el de la Devallada. La presencia de estos portales demuestra que toda la villa estaba enmurallada por un segundo recinto. se conoce, también la existencia de 3 torres situadas en el Baluarte, detrás del antiguo Hospital (actual Museo Maricel) y en la calle de Bosc, posiblemente levantadas en el año 1303. Dibujadas en el escudo de Sitges.
A very rare straight out the camera image, taken during sunrise at Pismo Pier this morning. I've spent about 8 collective hours on one image this week.... and this trumps it.
Easily one of the best sunrises I've seen since living in California.

Yesterday evening around sunset I got *the jitters*... I was tired from work, would I go out with the camera or stay in? I saw some interesting cloud activity so I decided to give it a go and bike in the direction of Overschie to see if *something would happen*.
What I found was a stunning double rainbow, some of the weirdest light and clouds I ever saw and... the decision to flee back home or stay, shoot and get completely soaked as a bonus.
I decided to stay and get washed away. :) Here's the first part (which is actually part II, err nevermind) of what I saw and experienced yesterday only *just* before sunset. Enjoy your weekend, and yes... I'll be catching up soon!

ENGLISH
The main parish church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares displays the most significant mixture of architectural styles, to be found in the city. The buildings historic and artistic patronage is complex and its solid external appearance is of a defensive fortification.
Built on an archaeological site where remains of bronze and Roman civilisations have been found, the Church rests of the foundations of the main mosque of Muslim Úbeda. According to tradition the Romans built a temple here dedicated to Diane. After the conquest of the town by Ferdinand II the Saint, in 1223, the Mosque was consecrated in the Catholic faith with the title High Parish Church of the Royal Alcazares and of Our Lady of the Ascension. In 1259 it achieved the rank of High Collegiate Church. In 1852 the Church's collegiate rank was withdrawn, reversing to the rank of High Parish Church. Being the principal temple of the city, it has preserved important archives and a multitude of treasures. The latter being donations and numerous priviledges bestowed by Popes, Kings and bishops.
Its external appearance blends Medieval and Classicist styles. Being built on to the ols walls of the fortress, Santa María church has been the main witness to the great changes and strife of Úbeda. Today it still offers a special attraction to the town which is due to its great historical character and the population's identification with its heritage.

Asentada sobre un subsuelo arqueológico de la Edad del Bronce, y con mínimas diferencias ocupando el emplazamiento dé la antigua mezquita mayor de la ciudad, la tradición dice que en el mismo sitio los romanos tuvieron un templo dedicado a Diana.
Tras la conquista de la ciudad en 1233 por el rey cristiano Fernando III el Santo, la entonces mezquita fue transformada al culto católico bajo la advocación de Iglesia Mayor Parroquial de los Reales Alcázares y de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Desde 1259 fue titulada Iglesia Mayor Colegial y desde 1852 ostenta el título de Iglesia Mayor Parroquial.
Iglesia principal de la ciudad, durante siglos ha conservado un importante archivo y multitud de obras de arte y joyas, fruto de donaciones y de numerosos privilegios concedidos por reyes, papas y obispos.
Con una imagen exterior entre medieval y clasicista, adosada al primitivo muro del alcázar, Santa María ha sido la iglesia que históricamente más movimiento y ajetreo ha tenido de toda la ciudad, y aún hoy sigue ofreciendo para el ciudadano de Úbeda una atracción especial que le viene dada por su fuerte carácter histórico y el grado de identificación conseguido con la ciudad y sus habitantes, al albergar desde los meses de mayo a septiembre a la Stma. Virgen de Guadalupe, patrona de la ciudad.

The duck-boat man yells to children in the pond
OK, I think that they are actually probably supposed to be swan boats. We came across this scene on a day trip from London to Colchester, a smaller town at the end of a railway line. We picked the place more or less at random, thinking that we simply wanted to visit some town outside of London that we could get to and from in a day. The town felt a bit like a combination of regular town, distance commuter town, and slightly seedy resort area.
The town features one large castle in very good shape and the ruins of another very old stone structure. The former is in a very large public park, and quite a nice park it is. It has extensive lawns, areas of well-kept and very beautiful flowers. And off in a "corner" there is this pond. Something about this scene struck me as being both banal and a bit strange, with the group of children sitting in the boat and looking back at the fellow in the waders and orange shirt, who appears to be just a bit upset.
