Namibia is like my second home - I've been there countless times and simply love the country. When I went there for the first time, hardly anyone had ever heard of it, let alone seen photographs of the surreal scenery. Now, many years later, it is one of the most popular landscape photography destinations in Africa, there are Namibia pictures all over the internet, and for a large part I have myself to blame for it, bringing groups there every year. As a result, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to create something original at this incredible place.

This year I got very lucky when the heavens decided to bring me something entirely different from the blue skies that I've become so used to. What you see here is very dense fog creeping over the dunes, about to fill the valley. The fog lasted for over an hour even after sunrise, and it was the most magical hour I have ever spent there.

54 days in to this thing, how am I doing so far? Are there any photos you've loved, or maybe some you've hated? (There's a bucketload I don't like, so don't hold back!) Anything you want to see more of? Anything you want to see less of? Let me know! The main thing making this fun is getting to talk to all of you while I do it hehe :D

Panagia Pelekiti(rusticated): The "Queen" of Agrafa

It is one of the monasteries that stand out. The landscape, architecture, history make the Holy Monastery of Panayia Pelekiti a pilgrimage center. It is built above the artificial lake Plastira in Karditsa and is administratively subordinated to the Cathedral of Fanariers. According to the latest historical data, it was built about five centuries ago on a steep rocky slope of Agrafa, at an altitude of 1,400 meters, northwest of Karitsa village.

The history of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pelekiti has been linked to the course of the region, which participated in all the struggles of the Nation. During the revolution of 1821 Karitsa was destroyed by the Turks, while in 1943 by the Germans. The monks of the monastery were among the protagonists in the liberation of Karitsa from the Turks, creating a different relationship with the inhabitants.

Since its founding, the monastery has dominated the ecclesiastical things of the region since it was recognized as a cruciform in 1606 by the Ecumenical Patriarch Raffael II.

Pelekiti was named as its cells were created in the rocks on four levels, where the monks lived and functioned the monastery, while there was even a hidden school.

Porphyrios

According to Fotis Kerassiotis, who has dealt with the history of the monastery, it was probably founded at the end of the 15th century by the Spiritual Porphyry and was completed in 1529 in its present form by the new Omar Martyr Damianos, who is described as a "builder" In two frescoes. The monastery was hagiographed in the middle of the 17th century and has two temples, the Church of the Ascension of Christ and the Church of Panagia Faneromeni (the Catholic).

The Katholikon is the central and most ancient temple, devoted to Ascension of the Lord. It is a one-aisled basilica with a narthex, sheltered by a cylindrical arch, with a reinforcement bow in the middle. According to a relevant inscription inside the temple, it was painted in 1654 by hagiographers Ioannis, Nicholas Priest and Iacob Ieromonas.

The second temple is dedicated to Panagia Faneromeni. It is of the Athonian style, with dome and side dances, without internal columns. The frescoes, as indicated by a relevant inscription above the entrance door, were discovered in 1666. They were painted in 1674 by the icon-painter Iakovos and his son Dimitrios.

Known is the small but miraculous icon of Panagia Pelekiti, in which the Virgin Mary is painted with Christ in her arms. The picture is unfortunately stolen and sought to be returned to its natural place, the monastery. Evrytanas historian Panos Vassiliou wrote in 1929: "In addition to the excellent Byzantine art in frescoes, there is an icon (oil painting 0,04x0,03) of the Virgin Mary with Christ in her arms, a work of Raphael art. It is not explained how this tiny icon, which is considered as an old but miraculous icon, was found here. It dates back to 1654.

The style reminiscent of the Christ of the Protaton of Mount Athos, the well-known work of the Full Moon. In fact, this icon was embellished with 20 precious stones, of which 16 were removed from ... strangers, of course not to mention to anyone, as today, a police record. There are still, fortunately, 4 red-colored petals in its silver-plated casing, which is 0.21 x 0.23 m in size and carved on it with carved angels. An immense kindness is painted on the smiling face of Our Lady, whose child presents something truly divine and admirable for his joyful expressiveness. This magnificent icon of Virgin Mary Pelekite reminds Renaissance. "

The monastery, due to its elaborate construction and its glorious history, has been declared "Historic Preserved Monument". Unfortunately, however, the wealth of ecclesiastical heirlooms and its rare library are scarcely preserved today.

The monastery celebrates on August 15, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In recent years, after significant initiatives by local actors and other actors, the necessary money has been found and the monastery has been renovated and exploited, gathering crowds of pilgrims from all over Greece.

When the monks moved the border in 1831

The following incident is also impressed: After the Greek State was founded in 1831, Karytsa (the village under the monastery) and Belekomytis were found outside the Greek border because they were established on the river Karytsiotis, and these two villages are afterwards River. Then the monks, along with the inhabitants of the two villages, arbitrarily moved the borders and placed them after the monastery, on the plateau of Karamanolis.

Yep, I've been a hopeless flickr friend of late, i'll admit it. Life has been busy busy busy.........and to top it off me and the new 70-200f2.8LII are off to Malaysian Borneo to shoot the orang-utangs in a couple of days. The last time I went i wasn't armed with decent camera gear so i'm heading back to do it properly!

This shot has no blending and is a two second exposure @ around f11 . I got lucky capturing all these cascading waterfalls @ the same time!!!

Catch ya'll soon!

A labor of love with my sister who built Marriage!

We decided to go for a well-known story since... really, how is anyone supposed to develop an entire love story in two MOCs? Have you seen how many preludes W. Navarre has been doing?? XD

What a neat but challenging scale to try out! Credit to my sis for the basic head design and then we both took it in slightly different directions. I built complete figures so those'll are in the extra pictures on my Insta.

And more angles of Toothless of course. Speaking of Toothless... so, I do like building dragons, but I don't like building them in black. XD However, many groans and a trip to a Bricks & Minfigures store later, it came together... It's about twice as big as my last attempt!

‘’The agony of defeat…’’

The reason why I wanted to visit Gollinger Waterfall in Tennengau (Austria) was an old water mill just below the waterfall. I was so fascinated by the decaying hut which was on it's way back to nature, that I was ready to accept the big distance.

I visited the mill on 24.10.2015 and what could I see? Some wise guy decided to restore the mill and to remove the thicket around it. False decision in my opinion... Well, you have to take what you can get and try to make the best. I hope You still like it.

Today I missed the direct train home from work and ended up taking a longer route.

None of the following is a complaint. I do, of course, fully understand the need for social distancing measures. I did though want to record how I felt on the journey.

It was a very strange experience: seats taped up ‘out of use’, hardly any passengers at rush hour, lengthy one way systems to navigate. It all felt like landing in a very different country, but with elements of familiarity. It was the most surreal journey I’ve ever made.

The picture was taken at York and shows 802218 with a Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service. To be fair, the TPE trains have clear but discrete social distancing signs in the form reservation type labels with a red and cross/green and tick to indicate where to sit.

Bruges / Brugge is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North".

Another, slight less abstract, photo of one of the beautful concrete stairs inside the Herzog & de Meuron Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.

Whilst searching for possible entries to this years CIOB 'Art of Building' photo competition I realised I've a whole load of photos of the Blavatnik School of Government that I've never even touched.

Click here to see more of my shots of contemporary architecture in Oxford : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157636717820925

From Wikipedia "The Blavatnik School of Government is located in the University of Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter on Woodstock Road, however its main entrance is on Walton Street. The building is designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. The central forum is inspired by the idea of openness and transparency and connects all the floors together. Construction work started in autumn 2013, after some controversy, and ended in late 2015. The building is controlled by a combination of systems and technology that helps minimise its environmental impact."

Excerpt from www.flamboroughtoday.com/spotlight/waterdown-village-welc...:

A highlight of fall in Waterdown Village is the annual Scarecrow Walk, starting in this eighth year on October 11 and running right until Hallowe’en.

“Once again, our local businesses and community partners will display uniquely decorated scarecrows, animating our streetscape and giving people of all ages more than 130 reasons to Walk Waterdown,” exclaimed Waterdown Village BIA Board of Management Chair, Amanda Groves.

Chapter II: The Mystery of the Incubators

Sam found himself alone in the laboratory, the dim lights flickering intermittently over the equipment. A bottle of beer was within his reach as he immersed himself in his thoughts. Recently, an unusual event had shaken his scientific world: the disappearance of a body from the incubators. This act not only defied the laws but also raised serious questions about the integrity of the timeline.

As the golden liquid flowed down his throat, Sam pondered the possible devastating consequences that this incident could unleash. What effect would it have on historical evolution? How would it alter temporal continuity? These questions haunted him, filling his mind with unease and concern.

An even more alarming idea seized his thoughts: Who could have orchestrated this act and for what purpose? Time travel technology was heavily regulated, its illegal use a serious offense. Only a few would have access to it, and none of them would have noble motives to carry out such an action.

As Sam delved into his reflections, a determination grew within him: he must uncover the truth behind this enigma. Not only for the sake of the scientific community and temporal stability but also for his insatiable thirst for knowledge. With determination in his gaze, he promised himself that he would not rest until he found answers and ensured that temporal integrity remained intact.

Anema e core ... Pino Daniele

Anema e core ... Perry Como

Along the way most fashionable island of Capri among prestigious boutiques and luxury hotels is a small white door almost hidden, this is precisely the entry of local busiest nights of Capri: the Anema e Core.

Of international fame is the hub of nightlife in Capri, you can meet people in every type from the pop star to politician, industrialist to television presenters, philosophers, sportsmen, models, even members of various royal lines.

The creator of this magic ... Guido Lembo.

'The night belongs to undisputed ruler of Capri, the emperor who commands the supreme night on the island from midnight dawn, a man capable of unleashing the most modest of politicians in spontaneous performances by singing loudly recited from the stage, or to encourage the more reserved of the stars to practice exotic dance worthy of the most energetic dancers. Just enter his kingdom to lift any restraint, and who fails, we think Guido, skilled master of ceremonies. '
