What means love more then marriage? This is our wedding bands it show me and my wife love for each other, what I like is it has the blurred box which show emphasis on the rings with the mirror underneath to add a cool effect. What I do not like it the house lighting, I would change the lighting to a more natural lighting and maybe add a fill card if I could keep it out of the mirror.

Herter Brothers, the leading cabinetmaking, design, and decorating firm during the second half of the nineteenth century, created a pair (2002.298.1-.2) of opulent pedestals for their most prestigious commission, the grand Fifth Avenue residence of William H. Vanderbilt. Each pedestal is a column carved with ribbons and “jewel”-encrusted garlands. Ormolu capitals incorporate classical female masks and birds’ heads; decorative mounts feature stylized foliate patterns. They were intended as an integral part of the ornate decoration of Vanderbilt’s drawing room, described in 1883–84, shortly after its completion, as “gorgeous in the extreme: everything sparkles and flashes with gold and color—with mother-of-pearl, with marbles, with jewel-effects in glass—and almost every surface is covered, one might say weighted, with ornament.” These onyx columns or pedestals, “hung with gold chains set with colored cut crystals,” contributed to this impression. Their carved and gilded decorative motifs—tied bowknots and necklaces strung with jewelry—are repeated in decorations throughout the house. Lighting fixtures in the form of vases originally stood upon them, adding their own luster to the composition.
The drawing room was unquestionably the house’s most sumptuous space. It was likened to the interior of a richly lined jewel box, its walls hung with crimson fabric, embroidered with gold thread and jewels of mother-of-pearl. Although the pedestals were originally part of an extraordinary interior scheme long since destroyed, they stand eloquently as independent works of art. In their design and use of luxurious materials, they epitomize the delicacy, opulence, and elegance of that room and of the Gilded Age.

William H. Vanderbilt, son of Cornelius “Commodore” Vanderbilt, inherited a vast fortune and a lucrative transport business, which he expanded exponentially, becoming one of the wealthiest men in America. In 1879, to mark his elevated social and economic status, he built a mansion that spanned an entire city block on Fifth Avenue, between Fifty-First and Fifty-Second Streets. He commissioned Herter Brothers, one of the premier cabinetmaking firms in New York City, to decorate and furnish his home.
In devising distinct decorative schemes for each room of the mansion, Herter Brothers drew inspiration from a wide range of historical styles and utilized expensive, exotic materials.
While every room in the Vanderbilt mansion displayed lavish ornament and detail, the drawing room was the centerpiece of Herter Brothers’ unified vision. It embodied an eclectic classical- Assyrian revival theme with a crimson color palette, replete with gilding and reflective surfaces. This unusual console is one of several surviving furnishings of this luxurious space and was integral to the drawing room. The surface is gilded and an Egyptian alabaster top relates to the paired pedestals adorning the room. Its decorative features recall Renaissance motifs: two pairs of opposing griffins and cornucopias below menacing saytrs’ masks flank a central pillar of lustrous abalone. The carved legs are encrusted with jewel-like teardrop garlands.

The Queen Vic is my favourite Lego creation. It has evolved over the last sixteen years, with nine versions of the pub.
1 (2005-6)
This was the first iteration of the building. The same layout was in place as today, but the building was more of a square shape with a grey first floor and bright red ground floor. Stickers were used throughout and there was no corner main entrance.
2 (2006-7)
The second version introduced the corner main entrance and lighting was added to the exterior. Stickers were still used and there was a lot of brown colours for the bar which made the interior look very dark.
3 (2007-9)
Version 3 abandoned the interior in favour of focusing on the exterior. SNOT techniques were used for the doors and the building was illuminated with LED lights. The globe lights outside were wooden spheres, painted white. This was the first pub to use dark red, rather than red, as the main colour scheme.
4 (2010-12)
There was a year gap between version 3 and 4. Version 4 brought back an interior for the pub and was also the first to use dolls house lighting to illuminate. It was also the first to use gold plastic lettering for the name.
5 (2012-14)
Version 5 was a facelift of 4. The top floor was removed and plates were used instead of bricks. The ground floor façade remained the same, but the bar was renovated.
6 (2014-18)
Version 6 survived the longest from 2014-18 and was a complete rebuild. The same lighting was re-used from version 4. The bar was rebuilt but the same gold lettering was used for the exterior. This was almost the final version of the pub as I grew attached to it and didn’t want to demolish. In December 2018, a minor refurbishment was planned but eventually led to a rebuild.
7 (2018-20)
Version 7 was the most detailed so far with a longer rectangle shape and slightly larger than version 6 to allow more details. The issue with version 7 is that I miscalculated the corner configuration which led to a larger corner door than necessary. Version 7 had all new lighting and was the first to use jumper bricks for the exterior and interior columns. It suffered a tragic ending when a box fell on top of it and damaged it. I thought it was repairable but it mostly collapsed when trying to salvage it.
8 (2020-21)
Version 8 was a disaster. When I was building it, nothing went right and I was very critical of the overall look and shape of it but I couldn’t work out why it wasn’t working. It was mothballed in January 2021 and was eventually dismantled, having never been finished. The building had a bar installed but didn’t progress any further. In late 2020 I worked on the Rovers Return Inn instead and when I showed a relative, and the issues I was having with version 8, they said that the problem was that the Queen Victoria was too large and the scale was out. Shortly after the pub was fully disassembled.
9 (2021-)
Version 9 is the latest iteration of the Queen Victoria. It is smaller in size, roughly the same as versions 4-6, and is the first since version 3 not to have any electric lighting. Instead I wanted to focus on the look of the pub as opposed to lighting it up. Version 9 has many improvements over previous ones. The ground floor is mostly made up of reddish brown and dark red modified with studs on side (22885). This has allowed for greater detail at a smaller scale. The globe lights are modified snowman bases and for the first time custom prints, rather than stickers, have been used for some of the details. The interior is also the most detailed with a 3D printed bust of Queen Victoria and wallpaper from the Bat-cave for the stairs.
