Every year Tewkesbury hosts Europe’s largest medieval festival which includes the re-enactment of the battle. We attended on the Saturday in July 2011, with mixed weather but some very fine displays. The battle of Tewkesbury took place on May 4th 1471 between the royal houses of York, The White Rose, and Lancaster, The Red Rose. It started because Henry VI was considered insane and the country was without a strong leader. Edward of York, the most able leader left, was declared King in 1461. He had Henry locked in the tower of London and his wife Margaret of Anjou fled to France with their son also called Edward. When he reached 18 she decided to return to England and re-claim the throne for him. She landed at Weymouth on April 14, 1471, and set off for Wales, where Jasper Tudor awaited with re-enforcements for her army. Gathering supporters as they went, they headed for Gloucester to cross the Severn, only to find the city locked against them, by King Edward's orders. They headed for the next crossing point, Tewkesbury, but found that Edward's army was so close behind they had to stand and fight, rather than cross. Exhausted and outnumbered battle ensued but they were easily defeated, and so many of them were killed trying to get to the river that the field they ran through is still known today as Bloody Meadow. Margaret fled the scene with some of her ladies and was later found in a priory at Little Malvern. Prince Edward was killed either during the battle or just afterwards and he is interned in Tewkesbury Abbey. A brass plaque in the choir marks his last resting place, directly beneath a ceiling boss depicting the Yorkist badge.

We hosted an open studio for the Pataphysical Slot Machine in Mill Valley on Saturday, May 28th, from 1pm to 5pm. This special showing of our surreal art exhibit was for families with kids ages 6 or older. They seemed to enjoy the experience, as these photos suggest.
Visitors asked our poetic oracle for instructions from the future — and opened our many magical wonderboxes. They also learned more about ‘Pataphysics, the “science of imaginary solutions” that inspired dada and surrealism.
Many thanks to Drs. Figurine, Canard and their family for so graciously hosting this event in their home. Kudos as well to Drs. Rindbrain, Skidz, Heatshrink and Zboon for their help in preparing this event.

More than 60 attended the 4th Annual Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Fly & Ice event at Harman’s North Fork Cottages in Cabins, W.Va., March 7-9. The event was hosted by the PHWFF Fort Belvoir and PHWFF Quantico Programs and more than 35 Warriors and several family members from six different PHWFF programs fished 1 ¾ miles of the private access trophy trout stream during the three-day weekend.
In attendance at the three-day event were volunteer Guides, Warriors and family members from the two local programs in addition to members from programs at Camp Lejeune, N. C.; Martinsburg, W.Va.; Wilmington, N.C.; and Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, Va. For 14 Warriors, it was the first time they had traveled to Harman’s and 11 had never fly fished.
The air temperatures were pleasant on Friday and on Saturday, rose into the mid 50s. Sunday’s weather cooled down, but that didn’t keep anyone off the water.
Bigg Riggs Farm, owned by Calvin Riggleman, a Marine Iraq combat Veteran and small farmer from Loom, W. Va., provided all meals for the three-day event.
Evenings were filled with various fly tying instruction at different cabins to include wet flies, soft hackle flies, streamers and clouser minnows and rod building. Volunteers and professional guides provided the instruction.
Saturday evening included Warrior raffles for prizes donated by supporters from around the country. Additionally, several custom-designed United States Marine Corps rods, built by Doug Rink - Fort Belvoir PHWFF alum and owner of Mad Fly Angling - were presented to Marine Veterans at the Saturday evening event.
Saturday evening also included a performance by The Buck Mountain Spring Band (all members from West Virginia) who stopped by to play some original Appalachian music for everyone.
The inaugural “Iron Fly” Fly Tying Competition was held over the weekend with judging on Sunday morning. Several attendees participated and the winner was a young family member of one of the Warriors.
The stream had been recently stocked by Harman’s with 1,000 pounds of rainbow and brown trout, ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches. Guides and Warriors caught fish throughout the weekend, including many of the new Warriors who attended for the first time.

Recently BLM hosted the Whid Isle and Inland Empire Brittany Clubs to run dogs on two different "courses" in what are called braces. The courses included Puppy, Derby, Gun Dog, and All-Age. The dogs ran on Goose Butte in the BLM’s Spokane District. This has been the site for field trials for three Brittany Clubs for more than a decade. The most recent trial included with competitors from Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, California and Canada!
John Henderson, a handler and judge for different braces said this BLM location is fantastic for the trials. "
First of all, it's centrally located for a lot of the club members and it's a great place to let the dogs loose. The folks here from southern California and the west side of Washington and Oregon don't have anything like this near them. These two courses are so big and it's chukar habitat so the birds we release feel at home," said Henderson.
Henderson said more than 500 birds were released over the three trials so the Brittanys could demonstrate their ability to find birds, point staunchly and remain steady to wing and shot. Most field trial dogs are handled from horseback because these patches of BLM land are too rough and expansive to cover on foot.

This is a photograph from the 4th Annual Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races hosted by Bohermeen AC on the 8th March 2015 at 12:00 at Bohermeen, Ardbraccan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. A 10KM race was also held and started one hour before the half marathon. This event has grown quickly in popularity over the past few years with this year's entry of 1,168 with this being a record for both races. The half marathon had 843 entrants while the 10KM race had 325 entrants. This half marathon event is perfectly placed in the Irish running calendar as it provides runners of all levels and abilities an opportunity to test the half marathon distance in preparation for a Spring Marathon or as the first serious running goal in 2015. Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful.

The weather was very suitable for road racing with the exception of a strong headwind at certain parts of the course. However the cool, dry sunny conditions were suitable for fast times and PB performances from runners.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Fort Indiantown Gap PA hosted the annual WWII Battle of the Bulge Reenactment in the last week of January, 2013. One of my brothers and I drove there on the 26th.

Harpur Edge hosts an Open Gallery Night, "Break Through: Unconventional, Bold, Exploratory, Evolutionary and Beyond", held at the Harpur Edge office located in the Glenn G. Bartle Tower, Thursday, November 17, 2022. Harpur Edge collaborated with the Art Museum and the Q-Center as part of an open gallery walk. All Harpur College students were encouraged to enter.
