WORD ON PHUKET SHOPPING: You can now pop into Homeworks (Central Festival Phuket East) for the latest mobile accessories. From blinged-up smart phone and tablet covers to executive-style iPad holders, you can shop for all the latest e-fashion among the rows of booths on the ground floor in front of Power Buy Electronic City.

Need a new charger or a battery change? If your phone needs a quick fix, a new screen protector, headphones or new battery, you'll find bits and pieces for most brands as well as universal options.

And while you're there, check out the deals on the latest electronic goods in Power Buy or do some shopping at Tops Supermarket, which stocks a wide variety of imported foods as well as fresh bread from the in-store bakery.

This was a homework assignment from art class in high school back in the 80s while learning how to expose and develop photographic paper in the darkroom and it was lots of fun. They're pretty much objects from my school bag mixed with a couple of my younger siblings' toys.

The technique is simple: You take photo paper and place some objects on it (in the dark or under red light), then expose the paper so the objects will form a "negative image" of silhouettes on the photo paper. The real fun starts if you don't have a red light and you have to do it all in the dark, so you get a first glimpse at your artistic creation during exposure and only see how the final image turned out once you develop it.

Lots of artistic possibilities with this method. You can use transparent objects, move things during exposure, or do multiple exposures with things moved between them and/or stencils placed over the paper to get gradients and overlaps etc. Something you can't quite do with a digital camera, but only if you have photo paper and a darkroom.

This week's homework was to take three images that are about you (eg hobbies, etc), with one of them being a self portrait.

Image details: Nikon D90 with 50mm 1.8, SB 600 camera left rear (fired bare @ 85mm), SB 600 (fired bare @ 85mm) camera right rear, SB 700 camera right front (54cm EzyBox). All triggered via Nikon CLS.

Hokkaido-ken chilling with my bonzai tree.

Handwriting (and anything fine motor) is tough for Perry. Homework involves writing his name and reading. Since we started it has improved SO much.

Fourth in my series on Renton public art. This is a life sized sculpture of a boy reading his homework before he plays baseball. It sits outside the Renton library. Details in this blog post:

As cool as criminology is, learning about the charter of rights and freedoms FOUR TIMES is a bit much.
