This was a homework assignment from art class in high school back in the 80s while learning how to expose and develop photographic paper in the darkroom and it was lots of fun. They're pretty much objects from my school bag mixed with a couple of my younger siblings' toys.
The technique is simple: You take photo paper and place some objects on it (in the dark or under red light), then expose the paper so the objects will form a "negative image" of silhouettes on the photo paper. The real fun starts if you don't have a red light and you have to do it all in the dark, so you get a first glimpse at your artistic creation during exposure and only see how the final image turned out once you develop it.
Lots of artistic possibilities with this method. You can use transparent objects, move things during exposure, or do multiple exposures with things moved between them and/or stencils placed over the paper to get gradients and overlaps etc. Something you can't quite do with a digital camera, but only if you have photo paper and a darkroom.

As cool as criminology is, learning about the charter of rights and freedoms FOUR TIMES is a bit much.
Watched lesson #5 last night & today and our homework was to make a diptych. The aim being to allow the viewer the possibility of mentally seeing three pictures out of the two visable. Does that make sense? Anyway, it was an interesting lesson and something fun to work on!

Bethany was set homework over the weekend, she had to make something that represented one of the four elements. She originally chose water but after collecting lots of little bits while out over the weekend she changed her mind and decided to do earth.
She created this amazing piece which is a river, she has included large bolders, logs, grass, moss, waterfall and a small dam. I helped her with the water but she did the rest. I hope her teacher is as happy as we are about it, I think it looks brilliant.

Danielle cut this out from a pharmaceutical ad. You know the commercial: it's for a bladder control medication. Danielle thinks the "pipes" guy in the ad just gets pissed off because he can't take a good picture of the bird. Hahaha. Heck if I'm going to be the one to explain it to her!
Part of Danielle's kindergarten homework today was to track down pictures of things that began with the letter P. Since I was home sick, I picked her up before A-Plus and helped her with the assignment before my mom got home from work. When Mom's not there to mediate, Danielle and I tend to get a little creative with our options. (Best viewed large.)
