In the U.S., roadside changeable-letters signs usually have white plastic backgrounds, but all the ones I saw in St. John's NL had black magnetic backgrounds.
Chicken salad is one of the best-known of the mayonnaise-bound meat salads, so "strawberry mango chicken salad" would seem to be a creamy chicken-mayonnaise salad with strawberries and mangoes stirred in. But that's not what this is. It's a lettuce-based salad.

A whole chicken was cut into seven large pieces, marinated with several ground spices and refrigerated. It was going to be our dinner on Wednesday BUT, PS called and invited us for a durian feast! So, this was left to marinate overnight and ended up on the table for our Thursday lunch instead.
During cooking, I noticed the taste and colour of turmeric was too overpowering, this was not what I wanted. I was thinking what was missing when compared with the masala chicken we had eaten in Little Indian. Could it be the result of not having enough of fresh tomatoes added? I had used one instead of three, that’s all I had in the fresh box. I had thought of tomato paste, the red hues and its taste should enhance this dish although it was not an ingredient in the recipe. Anyway, I went ahead and added 85 grams of it. The end result was great…I like the flavour and colour now!
From a glance, ER thought this was curry chicken and he asked, “How come the curry looks like tandoori chicken?” The presence of curry leaves had misled him, I think. On tasting, he pointed out that fresh coriander, mustard seeds and may be extra star anise should be used. We like this new dish although it tasted differently from what we accustomed to.
ER commented that it was not as salty as compared to what we ate in Little India and: This is better. YH was happy with the right amount of chillies used and hence not fiery hot. While at work, in the evening he called home to have some of it reserved for his supper. Yep, he truly had enjoyed eating it :)

A snackbar located at the Dickson-Stevenson Stopping House, (an historical rest area), just north of Crossfield, Alberta. It was always hit & miss whether or not it would be open, but now is apparently closed, and for sale.
When ER and I were heading to Hong Lim Park, the sundry shop we walked past attracted me. At 1st we were looking at other dried shell fish that can be used in soups, but, when another shop assistant spoke to me while I was looking at dried scallops from China and Japan, I was interested in the baby ones. They appeared so fresh and inviting, so I bought some, which is really affordable, just a fraction of the cost of the Japanese varieties. Another plus point is that they are less fishy and salty now.
The above dish is adopted from my mother’s steamed white baits, a dish I have not eaten for years because those little whole fish is high in cholesterol. Today, I had used dried scallops from Qingdao that were so fresh and not so dehydrated and of the right tenderness, so I did not soak them before steaming. If the variety you have is dried and hard then it is good to soften them by soaking in hot water before cooking. If you do this step, don’t throw away the stock, reserve it for other uses. This dish is so appetizing and really great with plain rice or plain porridge~

Right before watching serials from Hongkong and Taiwan on TV, these frozen 3-joints wings were thawed, cleaned and marinated with spices and seasonings for 2 hours. They were then arranged in a greased and lined baking tray and roasted in the oven for an hour or till the skins were nicely brown.
Just steamed the leftover the next day if any, they remained just as good.

Called "shu zai choy" in Cantonese, this vegetable is really a good old ingredient to go with "ban mian" which is hand made noodles. However, in most eateries, "choy sam" is commonly used now.
It has been years since we last ate this vegetable, not commonly available in wet market in my neighbourhood now.
On the outside it's an unassuming brick building nestled between a pizza joint and a little homestyle restaurant. The funny little logo on the front though gives a clue that this is no ordinary building.
Many, many years ago this was a movie theater, the Bellevue.
It opened in September 1937 with the movie "Mountain Music" starring Martha Raye and closed in 1963. It was purchased by the Samis Grotto Shrine in February 1966, currently known as the Samis Grotto Temple. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine lived nearby when they were children and attended this theater during the World War II years.
Now, I don't really know what Samis Grotto is so I looked them up on their website and I'm even more intrigued then ever. They call themselves "The Mystic Order of the Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm". Wow! You have to be a master mason to belong to this Mystic Order but I did find out that on the second Tuesday of each month they open up for all for a "clowning around" event. I'm a little leery of clowns but I'm thinking I'll grab one of my nieces or my nephew for protection and enter the Realm. I'm just itching to see the inside of this place!

ER and I shopped at NTUC FairPrice Supermarket in Toa Payoh after dropping off documents at Revenue House in Novena. Actually, ER intended to show me around this area BUT, too bad, there was a heavy downpour soon after. Anyway, I was glad to get home on time to catch my Korean serial on cable TV.
It would be fantastic if I were there again and chanced upon the top few bananas ripening! A photo will sure ensued.

A different version of curry mee which is definitely better than the one I had outside People's Park. This curry mee was served with slices of bean puffs, chicken and fish cakes. The extra chilli paste was my request.
