My friends and I stayed in Glyfada during our 7 weeks business trip in Greece. Every weekend, we would spend our time visiting places in Athens, Delphi, Corinth, Meteora, Mykonos.
My fond memories were on the food we savoured, some of them that I could recall were souvlaki, moussaka, tzatziki, fried calamari, rabbit stew, pita bread "Gyros", feta cheese, Greek pizzas, olives, Greek salads, Ouzo, nougat pies (only know that yesterday, while looking at Greek recipes & Flickers photos about Greece). - ER

had lunch at homestyle hong kong cafe with my sister today. i tried the beef brisket curry; it was good, but i could not finish it.
Besides garlic and leek, we love to eat leek flowers as well. They taste best if the thin membrane of each stalk is removed before use. Generally dried mushrooms are soaked in hot water for half and hour before use.
My version:
Recipe:
Mushroom Stir-fried With Leek Flowers
Ingredients:
400 g leek flowers - peeled and cut
10 dried mushrooms - soaked and sliced
100 g minced pork
3 cloves garlic - chopped
3 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt, sugar and ajinomoto to taste
1. Peeled all the stalks of leek flowers for better crunch and flavour, wash and set aside.
2. Soak the dried mushrooms in hot water till soft, remove the stalks and slice the mushroom caps.
3. Season mince pork with 2 tsp of soy sauce, pinch of sugar and a little cornflour.
4. Heat up olive oil in a fry pan, fry the chopped garlic till fragrant, add in minced meat and stir-fry till just cooked.
5. Add in the leek flowers, oyster sauce and seasonings. Stir-fry till the leek flowers are just done and yet still crunchy. If it gets too dry, add in a tablespoon of water during stir-frying.

Ingredients of prawn paste for fried chicken as listed on the bottle: shrimp paste, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, spices, fermented beancurds [lam yee], cooking wine.
Shown here is a plate of yummy pan-fried deboned drumsticks. Deboning them allowed the marinade to seep in and hence more tasty and easier to cook. With a light coat of corn flour, the meat turned out to be juicier when eaten hot. And lastly, the bones were boiled with water and some crushed peppercorns that made a good soup base.

An occasional treat of streaky pork, I consciously avoid this cut because it has too much of unhealthy fat, braised with shoulder butt I normally used in this favourite dish. When the meat is ready, the layer of skin and the fat under it are so tender and tasty...it certainly minus the feel that they are the fatty and oily stuff! This dish goes well with plain rice, plain porridge and Chinese steamed plain buns call "man tou".
This is a hand-me-down recipe; I meant I have learnt it by watching my mother cooked it while helping out in my maternal home kitchen.
Stewed cuttlefish pork was one of the signature dishes my mum cooked during Chinese festivals. In the olden days, my mother used to make her own sweet glutinous rice wine known as yellow wine to go with this dish. To those who like cuttlefish, the pungent aroma it exudes during the cooking process is alluring and surely would induce one's appetite! And the sauce is really tasty with the addition of 'Hua Tiao Chiew', a type of cooking wine, which I have used in this dish.
Regrettably while two of my younger sisters have inherited the skill of making Hakka yellow wine, I have not. Still all is not lost, I am happy that I am able to produce a few Hakka dishes like the ginger wine chicken, black vinegar trotter, fishballs and fishcakes, niang doufu, mei cai men rou, braised pork etc. And of course my mum's delicious, nutritious "Dang gui Dom double-boiled chicken soup"...not sure if it is a Hakka soup though.

[Hougang Mall is at the background.] Hougang Mall is where we shopped for groceries and essentials from July 2003 to the third quarter of 2004 before the mall, Punggol Plaza which houses about 60 shops, a bank, a 24-stall wet/fresh market and a supermarket on the 3rd floor, is opened for business.

After much waiting, tenggiri fish was finally available from the wet market this Saturday. Weighing slightly more than a kilogram each, I had wanted to buy two but, ER said, “One whole fish is sufficient.” That amount would be used up for a pot of fishball soup as shown here. Yes, I should have bought two…simply because fish paste is so versatile in making different foods and we certainly enjoy fishballs.
