Once upon a time a family of Beaver wandered into Lundy Canyon and settled in. This is their Homestead.
Quite a nice place!

It's fun to think of the stories this old homestead in southeastern Colorado could tell. I'm sure there would be Dust Bowl memories as well as memories of the current harsh drought. But also lots of happy home life memories are easy to imagine. Here the homestead is visited by a dust storm.
Image Notes: 7-frame HDR. I removed a popup camper trailer to maintain historic flavor.
A consist composed by three NS SD40-2s, #3227 leding, #3473 "Operation Lifesaver" and the high nose #1634, pulls an eastbound manifest from Homestead to Moorman Yard along Curtice Front Street in eastern Ohio. (7/23/16)

On a very gray day, the colors ended up monotone and the textures and rust popped a bit more. But in the end it has a bit of a dystopian vibe.
Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s deep connection to Bundanon shaped its legacy as a place of artistic inspiration. In 1979, they purchased the property, making it their home and creative sanctuary. Arthur’s studio, preserved as he left it, offers a rare glimpse into his artistic process, surrounded by the Shoalhaven landscape that profoundly influenced his work.
The historic Homestead, dating back to 1866, remains much as it was, showcasing the Boyd family’s life and art. Their generosity ensured Bundanon would continue to inspire future generations, cementing its place as a cultural and artistic landmark for Australia.
Nestled in the Alaskan wilderness, this beautiful homestead can boast of an abundance of wildlife, as well as a runway for your plane. What more could a person ask for?
The old homestead stands alone now,
So full of memories,
That can be readily told,
By the deterioration of it's eaves.
Situated near a weed covered lane,
It's faded and warped clapboard flung,
Exposed to the wrath of stormy weather,
And many loose shingles hung
Above the homestead's roof
As though it still wanted to protect
It from the elements
And the years of gross neglect.
The old homestead stands empty now,
But the shingles and clapboard hanging free,
Remember together the sad and happy moments
Of the days that use to be.

This creepy old place is minutes from my house and I love to visit and shoot. No one has lived here for years but the land is privately owned. The owners keep a pack of coon dogs [hunting dogs] in cages at the back of the property, they barked when they saw me. It's cruel and I've been tempted to get a little closer and shoot them but I may end up getting shot dead instead. These folks don't play.
Thank you for your visit I hope you comment or fav. I'd also appreciate constructive criticism. :-)

The Huble Homestead Historic Site (1912) is near the 19th century Giscome Portage, the shortest route over the Continental Divide from the Fraser River to the Arctic drainage basin.
The reconstructed Jesse Brown Cabin is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Milepost 272.4, between Tomkins Knob Overlook and Jeffress Park. I converted this to black and white and added some "dream sauce" to give it a more old-fashioned look.
This rough, but functional, place is out around Davenport, Washington. You, know... Davenport... west of Reardan and east of Creston.
We visit places in our area quite often and since lockdown and Covid we have made a point of surfing our backyard. This darling place was not open when we visited, however, it was still a wonderful place to just wander around in, poking our noses onto the windows, looking in and promising ourselves to go back when it does open. What a charmer!
It was a dark gloomy night and darkness was enveloping the landscape when I stumbled across this old dwelling, nestled in the mountains of Snowdonia.
Located just south of Pagosa Springs, CO, this house was built in 1898 and now serves as an Air B&B.

The weathered remains of what was perhaps an original homestead home of an non-indigenous settlers still standing in a field of wheat.
The red cliffs of Capitol Reef tower above the well maintained homestead in Fruita, Utah. Once one of the most isolated communities in the U.S., Fruita (formerly known as "Junction") is now HQ for the National Park Service, who maintain fruit orchards and a few of the old buildings. The campground is one of the most scenic in the NPS system, just a stones throw behind this scene. The park is a great example of how human impact on the landscape is nicely blended in with the surroundings, with "historical" orchards adjacent to 1500+ year old petroglyph panels, just below the cliffs of the reef.
