One of several old homesteads that are still standing along Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park.....according to the Jackson Hole Historical Society, this particular structure was a hired man's cabin on the John Moulton homestead, located west of John and Bartha Moulton's pink house. Pretty nice digs for a "hired man," including the outhouse, although the entrance should have been on the other side with those incredible views...LOL!!!!!
Have a great Sunday....so much for being nice today; there's rain in the forecast :-( As always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!
Passing over Cottonwood Creek, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train heads west through Wendover, Wyoming, passing an abandoned homestead and derelict GMC tow truck on June 7, 2002.
Looking east across Saratoga Lake at sunset with grebes along the shoreline. Saratoga Lake was an unexpected treat with a variety of birds and lovely scenery when I was only looking for a place to stop for the night. The light was gone within an hour of my arrival but it was a most productive hour.
An old abandoned prairie homestead still stands along the busy Yellowhead Highway in Eastern Alberta.
There's a winding little road that leads to the Cumberland River which holds several unique landscape opportunities. When I passed this scene, which lay in a curve, I had to turn around and come back.
As I was capturing this scene, a friendly German Shepard decided he wanted to be there too and spent the next five minutes circling in and out of my feet and tripod. With a quick pat I was heading down the road to see what else was waiting for me.
This is a four image Pano
Zoom in for the details
This is a very known scene along the St. Ignatius, MT. area...there is a waterfall up there and a mountain lake I will hopefully get up to this summer and get some shots of. This is very warned and posted grizzly bear territory...I don't hike over this way to places unknown without guidance. Have a great new week everyone! :)
Please don't fav my images and not leave a comment...that is not what I do and don't like it done to me. Thank you! :)
Sitting abandoned, the old barn and home are caught on film. Kodak Retina Ib, Kodak TMax 400 film and caffenol developer.
Check this out....how nice is this Homestead.
Three different views shows just how large and spectacular it all is. Also a running river in your front yard.
Pushing on that trigger is like pulling magic into my very soul...Darrell.
Have a safe and awesome day dear Flickr friends !
Ernie Wright Homestead from Shane the movie
The 1953 Western classic film Shane was largely filmed in the Jackson Hole Valley. Most of the set locations for the film have long ago been dismantled including the town that was built on the Antelope Flats and several other cabins. This cabin and two other smaller structures just next to it are the only set from the movie that remain. The three structures were actually real cabins of early Jackson Hole settlers that were repurposed for the movie.
On a walk around Mona Vale September 2022 Christchurch New Zealand.
Mona Vale, with its homestead formerly known as Karewa, is a public park of 4 ha in the Christchurch suburb of Fendalton. The homestead and gate house are both listed as heritage buildings with Heritage New Zealand. Wikipedia
The countryside always has a charm and attraction to just be away from the hustle and bustle of city life...Wonder what the story of this home was, set on the sloping hills overlooking the valley, enveloped with lush grass and trees. The log home has now become the dwelling place of marmots, there are at least 3 upon the roof tops in the picture

Originally built in 1908, the farm was occupied until 1969 when it was handed over to the National Park Service, which has maintained and renovated some of the buildings to exemplify the Mormon settlement of the Fruita valley. Several orchards continue to be maintained and sell the fruit to visitors, or allow them to pick and consume the fruit in-place for free. The beautiful setting is also used as a campground.
Humans have occupied the area for 7000 years. Nearby are Fremont style petroglyphs portraying hunting scenes and beautifully elaborate humanoids of unknown significance dating back 2000 years.
On this evening the cooking of the pasta at the campsite was pleasantly interrupted by the sun breaking through the clouds with blinding light on the red rock cliffs above the Fremont River and the Gifford Homestead. A sprint with the camera and tripod in hand were fruitful :-)
Thanks as always for your views, comments, and favs.
My goal with this build was to create a weathered down house with slight hints of vegetation and plant life. Running out of black tile (3/4th the way through😬) made it especially hard to capture the look of this house. Fortunately I was able to pull through and finish this build.😊
