The Banff Springs Hotel is a luxury hotel that was built during the 19th century as one of Canada's grand railway hotels located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The hotel was opened to the public on June 1, 1888.

The hotel is located within a spectacular setting in the Rocky Mountains, just above the Bow Falls, close to thermal springs. The main view from the hotel is across the valley and toward Mount Rundle.

Banff Springs Hotel is also reputedly haunted. Stories suggest a woman dressed in her wedding gown lost her life on the staircase. There were candles on the staircase when the bride was walking up them, when suddenly her dress caught fire, in a panic she tripped and fell down the stairs, dying from a broken neck. Many people have reported seeing her ghost in full wedding gown, often dancing in the ballroom

This was taken at first light in the morning...

That was my last day at my holiday break in north Brazil. I've spent the whole week running from storms and spending small hours of the day under the sun. The last day, It was raining and quite windy. I didn't care. Went to the beach anyway and stayed under one of those big beach umbrellas till I could get something. Heavens opened and I got this magical moment. The boat does mean something when you look at left (storm) and right (heaven) side of the picture as it bring the sense that the boat is moving from one side to another. Like life, you move from negative side to positive. But you need to believe you can and you will. Success depends upon your will do something even though the odds are against you.

The early morning rising sun, bathes the Pier at Southwold on the Suffolk Coast in a beautiful golden red glow

A lone swan swims across a misty Rollesby Broad on a warm summer morning back in 2014.

I did venture here at 4am at the weekend, but was greeted with a stiff wind blowing down the broad followed by fog, mist and grey skys. I decided to cut my losses and spent the next 3hrs driving about in vain.

The pier / breakwater at Gorleston on Sea, Norfolk is under attack by a rough, angry sea.

A typical serene Santorini scene. A quaint white wall stands proudly, its simplicity accentuated by the small blue gate that guards it. Beyond the gate, the endless expanse of the azure sea stretches out. In front of the gate, a contented cat lies curled up, basking in the warmth of the sun, adding a touch of life and tranquility to the idyllic setting. The gentle sound of waves in the background completes this peaceful tableau, just a snapshot of Santorini's charm.

Mount Rundle as seen from First Vermilion Lake is probably the most photographed place in Banff National Park. Usually the photos are taken early in the morning or at sunset when the light is perfect and the lake is still allowing the mountain to reflect. Today was windy, the lake a little rough but the light hitting the snow on the mountain was my inspiration to try and shoot it. Used a ND filter and did a long exposure in HDR to get this. I still like the iconic reflections better. Have a great day.

A half a day trip from Phnom Penh to the 17th-19th century Cambodian capital Oudong took us thousands of steps up the prominent Phnom Oudong on top of which stand the royal stupa graves. This newer and more architecturally impressive white stupa on the way to the ancient tombs, is said to house relics from Buddha himself, although it appears to only rarely open to the public. The exterior decorations and details are nonetheless impressive.

The Mousehole Cat

Once, at the far end of England, there lived in the village of Mousehole, a magical cat whose name was Mowzer. She had an old cottage overlooking the harbour, an old rocking-chair with patchwork cushions and an old fisherman named Tom. Mowzer loved Tom because he gave her delicious fresh fish to eat. They ate marinated pilchards, grilled sardines, cod pie and every variety of fish you can imagine. They loved fish!

In winter, the weather in Cornwall can become very stormy. Once, in the weeks before Christmas, a ferocious storm was brewing. The wind rushed through the village of Mousehole like a wildcat in the woods. Waves crashed into the harbour and all the fisherman had to remain at home. The villagers were running out of food! No one dared to go out in the fishing boats for fear of being drowned in the treacherous sea.

On the night before Christmas Eve, Mowzer the cat peered out of her cottage window. She could see the storm stirring the sea. Mowzer’s stomach rumbled. ”Mowzer”, exclaimed Tom, “There is no food left in the village. The people are starving. As I am the oldest fisherman, I must go fishing. If I am drowned, at least I have had a good life.”

Mowzer hated the thought of losing her Tom. If he was going to brave the storm, she would go with him. So Mowzer followed Tom to his fishing boat and leapt in. The waves were colossal and the rain fell from the sky like a thousand hooves pounding against the ground. The storm cat threw Tom’s boat into the air like a frightened mouse.

Suddenly, Mowzer had an idea. She made her way to the front of the boat and began to sing as loudly as she possibly could. She sang and sang until the storm cat stopped to listen. The sound of Mowzer’s voice calmed him. He stopped stirring the sea and instead began to purr like a kitten.

Eventually,Tom cast his nets over the side of the boat and when he drew them in they were full of fish. Mowzer continued to sing until she and Tom had made it safely back to the harbour. The villagers were overjoyed at their safe return and began to celebrate with Starry gazey pie. Tom and Mowzer were heroes!

(story by Antonia Barber)

Polperro (Cornish: Porthpyra, meaning Pyra's cove) is a village and fishing harbour on the south-east Cornwall coast in South West England. It is situated on the River Pol, 4 miles west of the neighbouring town of Looe. It is well known for its idyllic location, surrounded by tightly packed old fishermen's houses, which makes it attractive to tourists, particularly in the summer months.
