Myself and Greg headed down to Brooklyn for our first shoot together in New York City. It turns out that the weather was on our side, so we manage to get a great sunset coupled with some storm clouds. Sadly during the shoot, we got chased off by a park ranger in a massive hat, but we relocated (slightly) and got some decent shots.
This is a blend of two images, one for the water and the lights, and the other for the sky and buildings. If you're interested in learning digital blending, then contact me for skype / email lessons, or I can arrange private or group tutorials in the London area. If you're in another country, keep an eye on where I'm travelling through Facebook and I might be able to teach in your country soon!

"The desire to reach for the sky runs very deep in our human psyche."
César Pelli.
Being the focal point of the master plan for the redevelopment of Abandibarra, a former industrial area next to Nervión river in Bilbao, the Torre Iberdrola is a 41-story glass skyscraper designed by Argentinian architect César Pelli, who is best known for his project for the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). This building is with 165 meters the highest building in the Basque Country and is also the first tower in Europe to achieve the US Green Building Council's highest level in sustainable design: LEED Platinum certification.
The triangular shape of the Torre Iberdrola is derived from the intersection of three cylinder segments slightly tilted to each other, which results in a prismatic volume that tapers toward the sky. In contrast to the clear lines of this imposing, obelisk-shaped glass structure, the building meets the ground by means of a sculptural, glass-and-steel curved surface that gently wraps the tower and, at the same time, opens the building to the city.
When looking at the building from both sides, the tower seems to emerge from within the delicate wrapper at its base. It is the sensuality of this gesture, which mitigates the sharpness of the prow-like façade the tower meets the city with, that captivated me and hence motivated this photograph.
In processing this image, I wanted to emphasize the dichotomy between these two volumes by playing with two different tonal ranges on them. The mid part of the spectrum was better suited to the soft curves at the base of the building, whereas tones at both extremes were only used to put the accent on the acute edges of the prismatic tower.

Sennen Cove, gave this a 16:9 crop as there was a big mass of seaweed to the bottom left of the image, think it works ok myself may even use this crop more often.
Twenty minutes is my longest exposure so far, I must of looked a bit odd pacing up & down to keep warm that early in the morning.
It was a good feeling to be out with the camera again though, can't beleive it's been three weeks since I was last out, and it is May next weekend.

Taken last weekend when we had some good weather at St Abbs near the harbor.
Difficult to get the colours right with the B&W ten stop and a Lee Grad filter.
Been raining all day here and doesn't look good for the weekend so probably not much shooting.
Still waiting for the Hitech Pro ND10 filter. Just hope its a good as the reviews
Update - got my Hitech filter today as hadn't checked the post, but could be a few days before i can use it properly, but will try and test the colour cast this eve.
Further Update- Tried the filter for a test shot and the cast looks somewhere in between the Lee and B&W which is great news, but the filter has a flaw as there is a dark patch in it. I can't see it with the naked eye but it will be going back... Apart from that it looks promising
La típica foto de turista.
Tuve suerte de que se abrió un claro en el cielo y dejó pasar un rayo de Sol, dándole más contraste a la escena y un poco de calidez a la roca.

One thing I love about low tide, there's always a chance of finding a tide pool or two to reflect the light.
On the subject of light I keep listening to this song by Josh Ritter on his latest CD
And Here's a live version and yes the bass player has got a pointy 'tache

I had forgotten what the sky looked like without a mass of grey cloud so I decided to look back in the archives. The forecast for tomorrow is cloud with sunny spells around Bala and Dolgellau - it is my day off so I do have my fingers crossed.
