Halloween Pennant Wings -- Perched at the top of this reed the pennant changes wing position higher or lower, spread or tight to accommodate gusty wind. I have many frames with the wings lower and closer together but they didn't catch the light as well as those with the wings held high and spread apart. These are the color I saw in the field. Capture NX2 did a better job of yielding the colors straight away on import than did my copy of CS3. You'd expect that, being a Nikon product. Have to admit I was lazy on this image though and used only CS3 relying on a bit of saturation to bring out the color. I also used masks to sharpen the entire image and then to reduce the background noise. On the other images of this same dragonfly, I used Capture NX2 first to create a tiff and then took them into CS3 for minor adjustments. Back lighted, the orange wings were vibrant as apposed to some of the top-down shots I've seen in books. This dragonfly truly earns the name 'Halloween Pennant'.

Hope you aren't tired of this dfly yet. It was the first Halloween pennant I've seen and he was very cooperative.

I had the camera on an indoor setting, so I've had to adjust the colour balance on these. Still not sure I've entirely got it right!

Gloucestershire College celebrated the achievements of over 400 higher education students in the grand setting of Gloucester Cathedral at its 24th Higher Awards Ceremony. 103 students graduated in person, across 23 higher education subjects.

Courses recognised at the ceremony, which welcomed Suzanne Hall-Gibbins, Director of Circle2Success as Guest of Honour, included Higher National Certificates in Graphic Design, Computing and Mechanical Engineering, professional qualifications in Leadership and Management, Quality and Accounting to a range of teaching qualifications and a Foundation Degree in Aerospace Computer Systems.

Matthew Burgess, Principal and Chief Executive said: “The Higher Awards Ceremony is a fantastic celebratory occasion, and we are so proud of each and every graduate who has achieved a higher education qualification with us. Each story of individual achievement here today is important.

It’s not easy to study at this level, but it’s worth it. So many of our higher education students go on to successfully secure work in their chosen field, to gain a promotion in their workplace or to progress onto a higher level of study and I wish them all success in the future.”
