Much of the lower part of the trail went straight up (mostly) dry streambeds. it doesn't look like it, but this is close to a 45-degree angle.
(It’s 5,424 ft, about 3/8 the height of Mt. Rainier back in Washington State. Incidentally, Denver, the “Mile High City,” is at elevation 5,279 ft, so actually 145’ lower than here. Seattle’s highest elevation is … 174 ft.)
P.S. Some intrepid person left an old desk with a pull-out drawer for signing in. Lots of stuff left by people in there, including a handy condom!
The highest point in Bedford County, Blue Knob, is also the 2nd highest peak in the state and a ski resort. Where the school meets is the natural highest point, and the artificial highest point is most likely under the Route 66 ski lift.
at the highest point of the walk - just before the 3k mark, and with fantastic views over Göteborg - we took a moment to enjoy the water and musical entertainment (as we'd been promised at the start of the race) and make some minor equipment shifts.
The south slope of Mount Frissell in the town of Salisbury and historic Litchfield County includes the highest natural elevation (2,380') in the state of Connecticut. This marker indicates not only the state line between Massachusetts and Connecticut, but also the accepted highest natural elevation in Connecticut.
