While at Delaware Bay beach at East Point Lighthouse on June 14, 2020, I got to meet & talk to 3 ladies who were there to help & count the horseshoe crabs. This is Kathy. She was keeping a tab of how many males & females her other friends were helping. They were turning them over so they could get back to the water. Because of Covid19, the regular horseshoe count which normally takes place at night, was canceled, yet these ladies were a small cohort of helpers for this year's Horseshoe Crabs visiting East Point Lighthouse Beach in Maurice River Township, Cumberland County, New Jersey.

A couple of helpers are doing exactly what they were intended for, shoving a heavy grain train to the summit of Marias Pass.

The Binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as the Asian Bearcat, the Palawan Bearcat, or simply the Bearcat, is a species of the family Viverridae, which includes the civets and genets. It is the only member of its genus. The binturong is not a bear, and the real meaning of the original name has been lost, as the local language that gave it that name is now extinct.[3] Its natural habitat is in trees of forest canopy in rainforest of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.[1]

It is nocturnal and sleeps on branches. It eats primarily fruit, but also has been known to eat eggs, shoots, leaves, and small animals, such as rodents or birds. Deforestation has greatly reduced its numbers. When cornered, the Binturong can be vicious. The Binturong can make chuckling sounds when it seems to be happy and utter a high-pitched wail if annoyed. The Binturong can live over 20 years in captivity; one has been recorded to have lived almost 26 years.

So much for having a bath the day before, and being groomed beautifully before being turned out after a lesson!

In spite of that, I can't help but love the look of sheer pony delight to be free and having a great roll in the muck.

In a foreign land where things may look alien and language being a barrier, it is always good to have guides who are able to speak a common language and assist in a time of need.

Guess who helped with the sprinkles?

He took a turn behind the camera too.

A derailment on MRL's 4th Sub near Superior caused the railroad to detour traffic via the 10th Sub for a couple of days in September 2013. Helper power was dispatched to Missoula for the detour moves, making for quite a show on Evaro Hill for the duration of the derailment cleanup.

Here, a WB manifest with two sets of mid train helpers grinds its way up the hill towards Evaro.

pair of Norfolk Southern helper locomotives drift down "the slide" on the number one mainline descending the east slope of the Allegheny mountains on a clear morning where the mercury is hovering near Zero degrees F with intermittent 45 mph wind gusts dropping the wind chill below -30 F. Main tracks 2 and 3 share one of the two original Pennsy tunnels which had been rebuilt for higher clearances and double track; the old Main 4 tunnel is abandoned on the right.

yes, two years ago, the magnolias were in bloom, sigh, okay, I'm officially in the doldrums, need some sunshine and blue sky to give me a tow out, help!

Any advice from you, my dear friends, would be welcome. I'm a bit sad because the portable WD hard drive I've been using to store my latest photos (that date back to the beginning of 2020) seems to have stopped working, meaning I have no access to all those photos now!

I don't think they photos are actually lost but the hard drive in question won't show up on my Mac (or Tim's laptop) so I can't get to them. My older hard drives show up in a list, but not the one from 2020.

It's very lucky I have already put my latest holiday photos and pictures from the Waverley into a folder on the desktop labelled 'Flickr uploads", so I can carry on uploading them, but I can't ever go back and look at the other photos. I've tried different connectors and a new 7-port USB. I should have backed everything up, but I ignored the signs!

I can feel and hear the hard drive whirring quietly when I have it in my hand, but I think there must be something wrong with it rather than any of the connecting cables. Do you think I'll ever be able to access those photos again? I've ordered a new hard drive (Seagate this time) for future photos, but I'm very glad I've uploaded so many photos to Flickr, cos at least I can visit my life there!!

These are some lovely flowers my friend gave me for my birthday, btw! I do love Peruvian lilies.

Don't do something tacky and then say "Oh, I meant to ask you about it." To quote John Fogerty "Lord, don't they help themselves, y'all?"

Reading & Northern SD50s 5018 & 5019 assist with the R&N's Iron Horse Ramble at Jim Thorpe PA on August 13, 2022. Here the steam special is being turned for the return trip to Reading. The SD50 pair followed the train up in the morning, then coupled to the rear at Jim Thorpe and pulled the train up to clear the signal here and is now being towed by the steam locomotives on the head end around the west leg of the wye. The SD50 pair will then pull the train into the station for the return trip.

Sorry had to post two in a line I just can't help it when the photos turn out nice.

About to hit the sack now once I've removed the war paint.

Meet Mom's Helper. The mom of the twins has picked up a helper; this most likely young female, has been helping out with the twins lately. When the four of them are around, the mom and twins don't stick around but this gal let's you get close. Not only that, she goes about her business of eating and doesn't pay too much attention. I think she may have been born on our property and is one of Mom's offspring but I'm not really sure.

A common pair on the East and West Slope made their way to Harrisburg after rescuing Amtrak train 42 in Pittsburgh. Apparently the P42 locomotive couldn't get the train out of the Steel City that morning, and a call went out to NS for help getting the passenger train to Harrisburg. These two SD40E's did the job, pulling the train here off the Pittsburgh Line and under the wires onto Amtrak rails. An Amtrak ACS-64 was tacked onto the front once the helpers were removed and the train continued to Philadelphia several hours off their normal schedule.

Or something .. I will settle on the or something with this strange looking character .

"the help" .... ... yesterday Baby Jesus was born, for those who are Christians this represents an immense act of God's love for his children ... and it is to that God-Man that we often resort to asking for help .... who among us ... has never needed help ...?! .....

I photographed people I had never met before, I thank them for their sympathy and availability: I met Antonio and his girlfriend, who came to Taormina to spend the last day together, the next day Antonio will leave to go very far, unfortunately leaving his beloved, to see her again who knows when ... I met the Japanese companion of my dear friend Cesare, who flew to the sky many years ago, I knew about his companion, but I had never met her before ... I photographed a sweet Chinese girl that I met on three different occasions, each time with a little more confidence….

these are just a few minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...

For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved (confused-blurred-imprecise-undecided) ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus made during the shooting phase, deliberately lengthening the exposure times, and not as an effect created later, in retrospect, in the post phase -production.

This little guy helped save my sanity the other day at the botanical gardens. I was trying without much success to get a particular macro shot from a flower near a rather brushy bunch of wildflowers. It was one of those days when, as soon as you get the shot set up, the wind stars blowing and my patience was frazzled. I sat semi defeated and took a deep breath. As I was gathering myself, my eyes caught a green on green flash. When I looked closer, I spotted this guy, stalking insects in the wildflowers. He stopped just long enough to check me out and allow me to gather myself, change to a longer lens and get a couple shots of him before he continued on his quest for lunch.

It's a bit of an oxymoron, but the sandwich does have avocado, so that makes it spa! I haven't had one for years, so today was the day.
