In one week, the Kids Care Club at Bierbaum Elementary collected 28 bags of coats, hats and gloves to donate to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of St. Louis to keep St. Louisians warm this winter.

With nearly 150 adults, kids and more than a dozen dogs, the 2017 Hangover Helper in the McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley State Park was a great success. We welcomed the New Year with unseasonably warm weather, a hilly 5 mile trail with three water crossings, oysters, chili, and great beer. Many thanks to the runners--and walkers--who traveled to celebrate with us. And big thanks to my co-hares Dan Zipper, Howard Wellman, Keith Ramsay and Tom Shank for another great event. Our "I Voted...For Beer" t-shirt was a big hit. And as in past years, our surplus funds will be donated to local charities
i wanna try and do things with my character.
i look at el toro, uwp, and others and see they are always doing something creative with their characters and im having trouble doing stuff like that.
im thinking that giving him arms to put stuff in is a start.
i kinda like short little fat arms for some reason, but i dunno.
help me out?

Guess who broke out the macro lens tonight? I did! I need to learn this lens! Each lens has its little tricks, and I'm a newbie with a macro. Read a manual? What?! I like hands on, trial by fire learning myself.
This is a really lovely necklace given to me by a friend who was in Afghanistan when he sent this to me. I love it.

I can't help it. When I'm biking with someone, I adopt their pace -- willingly & happily. But when I'm out biking alone, I go all out.
And when I see someone ahead of me on a trail, I have to "reel him in." It's a reflex I can only guess originates deep in the primitive cycling cerebellum part of my brain. No rider has passed me yet this year, but no one survives ahead of me either. I'm kinda cocky that way. In fact, on today's ride, I thought of two bad, very cocky riddles:
Q: What do you call a guy ahead of me? A: Temporary.
Q: What do you call him 40 seconds later? A: Dust.
Okay, I'm off the bike now, so the humbler library part of my brain should kick in again in a second.
