Taken during my Photowalk on the 19th of Jul with Ekaterina

Thank you for a fun time

Ken

Slower shutter speed (1/20s) results in blurred motion. It's best when there is an element that isn't moving in the frame, so we can see the effects of the motion. Like a helicopter! Right David? Feel free to upload that shot if you dare!

I couldn't resist. We were on a photowalk and I don't see turtles all the time. No real lesson here except capture the moment as it happens! And while you're at it, off centre your main subject (rule of thirds). See, I managed to turn that into a lesson!

1/20s in shutter priority (S or Tv) with a LOW ISO

BC Ferries "Queen of Tsawassen" bound for Salt Spring Island.

Not extremely close, but not medium either. But there is no question what the subject is.

I've deliberately placed the fence into the corner of the frame so that it draws the viewer into the image.

Compare this shot with the previous shot. Do they look the same? The aperture is wide in one and narrow in another, yet the scenes look largely the same. This is because we don't experience the "depth of field" effect unless our subject is quite close to us.

See how the water has slowed down and is blurry at 1/50s. We can see how shutter speed affects motion!

I have spent almost a week on Salt Spring Island, in the Southern Gulf Islands just off the much larger, well-known Vancouver Island. Amidst artists, winemakers, coffeeshop owners and simply incredibly resourceful, talented and warm-hearted people. Sounds like a snapshot of what Canada is all about? In essence, you've got it all here on Salt Spring Island and more. I completely fell. Head over heels. And already know I'll be back here .. soon !!!

I had to remove a piece of garbage that was floating in the water.
