The Full Snow Moon rises from behind Eagle Mountain and high above Buntzen Bay on the Indian Arm. The setting sun paints the West End gold and reflects off English Bay. A beautiful day along the Seawall at the English Bay Bathhouse and Inukshuk. I think this is the first time since August 15, 2019 (6mo) that the sky has been clear enough to view the full moon. Shot almost into the sun using a polarizer - I could see the cool clouds when composing it, but couldn't quite see all the crazy rays surrounding this great iron sculpture due to the extreme brightness. No artificial sun rays were added in post. Post processing is Silver FX.

I've been wanting to take a photo like that for a while. For years, I had seen those foggy photos of Vancouver, without even having an opportunity to get out there and take it when the moment was right. I wouldn't say the moment was perfect when I was there, as the fog was pretty thin and only covered parts of the landscape well enough and only for very short amounts of time. But I'm happy with that one shot I got.
I have to confess, it is heavily processed. I used 8 shots to reduce the noise, and the stars come from a stock image with open source license (very heavily modified). I really wanted to capture them myself, using the same focal length I used for the landscape (135mm) and pointing the camera towards the same direction as the shot was taken to make it "astronomically accurate". But I don't foresee any time soon when I'll be able to. The conditions probably won't be right for a little while, and my schedule is too busy for me to go out at night again for a long time. I wish I had more time to shoot.
As for those who might worry that the photo is a composite, I want to tell you that I wanted to create an image, above anything else. Yes, that night, I could see the stars. But I didn't have enough space in my bag to bring my tracker. So while the exact image is not 100% accurate to what I saw on that night, it's the general idea that matters to me and I want to be open about it. My intention is not to deceive anyone.

The middle peak is named after a local hero, Tim Jones, who led North Shore Rescue (NSR) and helped rescue over 1,600 people from danger. Tim worked as an advanced life support paramedic and as Paramedic in Charge for the B.C. Ambulance Service in North Vancouver, along with volunteer leadership of North Shore Rescue 🙏💙

The Super Pink Moon rises over Mount Baker and a historic net loft that sits on wood pilings over the Steveston Channel (South Arm of the Fraser River). This is the first of two supermoons this year, the second one on May 26 which will also be a blood moon (total lunar eclipse) Supermoons, on average, are visually about 7% bigger and about 15% brighter than a typical full Moon. This is because the moon’s orbit is closest to the earth.
The Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site has buildings that date back to 1885 when this area was booming with canneries. The roof touched by the moon, is the Phoenix Seine Net Loft. It’s older ‘twin’ building, the Phoenix Gill Net Loft (not pictured), is in the process of being restored/rebuilt and is currently dismantled. The Phoenix Cannery was Richmond’s first cannery.
The bright orange/red smoke stack belongs to the SS Master which is last wooden-hulled and steam-powered tug boat still in existence in B.C. (and likely Canada) Built in 1922 by Arthur Moscrop at the Beach Avenue Shipyard in False Creek. Seaspan just finished restoring this 85-foot long, 225 tons tug just in time for it’s 100 year birthday. The black diamonds on it’s smoke stack represent the towing of coal barges from Vancouver Island to Coal Harbour.
Oddly enough, the clouds around Mt. Baker appear to be part of the mountain (or vice-versa)

A night at Wapta Falls camping out beside the river. Taken back on June 16th, a new moon night. But the night skies didn't gets dark until half past midnight. And it was getting cloudy afterwards... NOt much more chance for more night shoot... This one taken around midnight with a little bit light left over from the northwest direction! Hope you like it!

Saturday night's spectacular moonrise over Vancouver Harbour. Traffic on the Lions Gate Bridge is treated to a glimpse of this year's Full Buck Moon. I watched it rise from the horizon while sitting on the beach listening to the waves roll in. Serenity Now! Is it just me or does anyone else get reenergized from the ocean?
