Friday night's rising gas prices and the Full Buck Moon. This wasn't exactly the shot I was going for with the moon rising over the sails on Canada Place 😆 I would've had to have been standing on Deadman's Island which is a restricted area for the HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve. Instead, my view was blocked by Coal Harbour's Floating Chevron Station. Oddly enough, this marine gas station doesn't show up on Google Maps or Google Earth. Standing in Stanley Park and looking over Coal Harbour to Canada Place and beyond to Metrotown in Burnaby. That's Marriott's "Element Vancouver Metrotown" by Westin with the full moon behind it. To the right and across Kingsway, another condo tower being added to Station Square. Captured along the Stanley Park Seawall in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ~ July 23, 2021 🌝

A Squamish Nation totem pole welcomes all with open arms. This was hand carved from an old growth cedar log picked from the enchanted forest of Hollyburn Mountain. It faces southwest to the outer section of the Burrard Inlet and English Bay. Looking over the mouth of the First Narrows to Stanley Park and Vancouver's famous sea stack Slhx̱i7lsh, a.k.a. Siwash Rock. Up above on the cliff is a lookout which was the site of "Fort Siwash" where an artillery battery was mounted during the First World War. Captured at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ~ January 23, 2022 🌲☁️

With open arms to all who pass our shores, this Welcoming Figure was raised at the first K'aya'chtn (gathering of ocean canoes). The Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) dedicated the figure to the citizens of West Vancouver on July 25, 2001, with this prayer on the plaque....

"Welcome/Guardian Woman in gratitude to all our Ta7as/Grandmothers.

For all the teachings of our lands, history, of who we are.

For all the teaching in the ways we take care of one another as:

elders, parents, brothers, sisters and cousins, our children, the future generations.

For all the teachings in the ways we share the wealth of the land, the seas and the air."

The colours of the sky over Helmcken Falls last weekend were short lived, but gave just enough for a nice sunset image.

This image was created from seven different shots, compiled to create a much larger picture overall. I wouldn't necessarily consider this a "panoramic", although I used a similar technique in order to capture as much of the area as possible.

We were driving back from doing some groceries in the evening and the sky was absolutely crazy. On fire in one spot, tornado-like in another, dark blue elsewhere. Unfortunately, the sky is fickle. There was no time to go home, unload groceries, grab my DSLR camera, and then go back to shoot this. So the best camera, as they say, is the one you have with you. In my case, my iPhone 6s Plus. I think it did a decent job despite its limitations. Nevertheless, I like to joke that the best camera is the one you left at home. 😂

Back to the yellow house, pretty much exactly two years later! Same as the first time, I ended up walking in front of it and took a quick panorama. There's a lot more leaves on the ground compared to the first photo, and it's snowing. I think that this year, the warmth stayed for longer compared to 2015, and the cold set in much more abruptly.

Raging rivers and rock walls, whats not to like.

Just wanted to test something. The sky wasn't very interesting, but I wanted to see if I could use median blending to improve dynamic range without using HDR techniques per se. So I took 8 underexposed photos to preserve highlights, and converted them from RAW with all the same settings, using curves to boost the shadows significantly, then median blended the exported files afterwards. It worked, the shot was a lot cleaner after that. Next step is to use the technique for a photo with more interesting light.

Perfect windy conditions for kite surfing at Kits Beach on Saturday. Several boarders take advantage and rip up icy English Bay. Vancouver sure is a west coast wonderland, it doesn't get much better than this. Looking across the water to English Bay Beach, the West End of Vancouver to snow covered Grouse Mountain shrouded in clouds. The amazing view from Lower Lonsdale as the full moon set this morning. Moonlight sparkled on the harbour as sounds of seagulls filled the air. Looking over Spirit Trail, across Vancouver Harbour to Coal Harbour to Canada Place and Vancouver Convention Centre with Burrard Street in between. Captured at 5:18am just outside The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ~ August 4, 2020 💙

Apocalyptic vibe at Kits beach, as Vancouver chokes in smoke from the wild fires.

Again. I feel like I've photographed this a lot of times in the past. I took 5 bracketed shots with a 2ev difference between each shot, and created an HDR file in Darkroom, which I processed like a normal photo (no tonemapping). I find I really like using Darkroom to make HDR files, as long as the tripod didn't move between shots. I could've done the same with a hugely underexposed shot, but it would have ended up a lot noisier afterwards.
