Late in the day on the particularly warm afternoon of Saturday, March 2, 2024, southbound CPKC manifest train M280 cruises through the signals at the south end of Watts siding in Watts, OK.

Been very hot hasn't it - all our walks in the last little while have been taken early in the morning, and not too far either, so we've just done variations of our normal routes, and walking in the shade on the way home for breakfast

Taken the other morning when it was a super hot day

A candid summer snap.

This is my thermostat in my 100 year old house at the worst of it yesterday ... my air conditioner just can't keep up with the temperatures lately. I turn it up to the best temp it reaches to give it a rest. Supposed to be the last day (God please) of this heat wave here.

OBTW, the thermostat was soooooo dirty I had to texturize my stupid shot. This was a Rustic Grunge texture ... that's me of late ... rustic and grungy.

Yesterday.

I was home for once.

But the heat nearly killed me.

Caught the last remnants of the rain here, in Oregon, early this morning. A heatwave is FINALLY coming our way, & I couldn't be happier. Although we won't be in town for most of it lol

Sunset at Sandbanks, and a welcome slight drop in temperature.

Even if he was seating under a shady tree, this fisherman was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and a hat under an umbrella, to make sure he was being protected from the scorching heat from the latest California heatwaves!

While heatwaves are quite common during the summer months, the scorching heatwave hitting parts of western Canada and the US has been particularly devastating – with temperature records shattered and hundreds of people falling victim to the extreme heat.

Canada broke its temperature record for a third consecutive day: recording a whopping 49.6°C on 29 June in Lytton, a village northeast of Vancouver, in British Columbia.

Portland, Oregon, also broke its all-time temperature record for three days in a row.

The extent of the heatwave can be seen in this map, which shows the land surface temperature of parts of Canada and the US on 29 June. The data show that surface temperatures in Vancouver reached 43°C, and Calgary and Portland recorded 43°C. The hottest temperatures recorded are in the state of Washington (visible in deep red) with maximum land surface temperatures of around 69°C.

The map has been generated using data from the Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission. While weather forecasts typically use air temperatures, the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer onboard Sentinel-3 measures the energy radiating from Earth’s surface. Therefore, the map shows the actual temperature of the land’s surface pictured here, which can be significantly hotter or colder than air temperatures.

The light blue in the image represents either snow and ice or cloud coverage. Snow and ice can be seen, for example, in the mountain ranges of Canada and Mount Rainier in the US, while some clouds can be seen on the Pacific Coast and in the bottom right of the map.

The persistent heat over parts of western Canada and parts of the US has been caused by a heat dome stretching from California to the Arctic. Temperatures have been easing in coastal areas, but there has been little respite for the inland regions.

Europe suffers heatwave this week. it has been so warm and muggy. note to self: if possible do not travel to Europe in the midst of summer. the heat can be unbearable when exploring and the crowds are massive. i believe Italy is just as beautiful in the spring or falls when the crowds would be at minimal and the weather would be more pleasant and the sun wouldn’t be as imposing. i do love old city such as Florence

not just being tired and fainting.

proper mental fuckery i mean.

it starts with you doing silly things, but it can go so far as seeing things that arent there.

i grew up in the desert. 8 months out of the year, a 45C day was just tuesday.

wednesday was the same and thursday too.

we are bags of mostly water so, get your water in. it's common sense.

it's sad to see the folk in this temperate zone here not understand what a little H2O deficit can do to you.

the world is not going to get any cooler in our life times. at best it'll stay like this.

get your water in. stay in the shade, wear light colour clothing, change your schedule, be lazy during the day, do more at night.

it really is as simple as that.
