I'm heartbroken to announce that Ruth Brown has passed away after complications from surgery following a heart attack and stroke in October.
She was an energetic entertainer and never let the audience down. I was lucky enough to see her perform a few times at the Bootlegger Restaurant in Las Vegas. She will be missed!
-for those who may not know- the symbol on the young girl's cap is the symbol of Hong Kong -Having lived there for 5 wonderful years, our hearts are broken... ...may we pray for fearless little Hong Kong that cool, respectfull & considerate heads & hearts prevail...

A poem for all people who feel like a flower in bloom starting to wilt with every breath you take.
I bloomed one fine summer day
but now that's changed, gone away.
Every breath has become harder to take
All my feelings become lisless, fake.
I thought I was loved, treasured, needed, wanted
I flaunted
my beauty everywhere
so people could look, glance at me, stare.
What happened to that happy me
that I was so glad to be?

I was popular with many friends
they were supposed to be there till our ends.
They left, their gone

Which sadly, I'm afraid I must do from now on and yet ironically, I could use some serious hugs.

It has been an emotional weekend. Our 1-year old black lab, Joey, who has been featured in my photos quite a bit got sick on Thursday. He stared throwing up that morning and I took him to the vet several times over the next few days but truly never expected that we would lose him. I had to be up in Seattle on Monday and didn’t find out until late in the day that he was not going to recover. I drove home that night in a state of shock but now that I am home I keep getting reminded of just how empty the house and our life will be with out him.
I had a love hate relationship with that darn dog. More love really, but I didn’t want to get another dog when we lost our lab Ogee last year. I didn’t want the responsibility but I was overruled and the husband and kids brought him home. Before I knew it Joey got into my heart and now it is breaking. He treated the kids like littermates and I loved to watch him play with them. He will be missed more than I can really put words to.

I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of David Bowie. His music was transcendent and always a part of my life. I am going to miss him sorely.
I did have the luck to see him 3 times and the last time was the best. My wife and I caught his show before we were married in Montreal playing in a small venue. He was touring doing mostly obscure songs. I will always remember that concert as being the best of all of the shows I saw.
We have been devastated and heartbroken. Billy's best friend of 22 years, his dearest and closest friend in the world Jesse, died yesterday. He was 31. He went to sleep Friday night and never woke up. Jesse was as dangerously handsome as a man can be, he had charm that could win over anyone and get him out of almost any trouble he found himself in. He was a dedicated runner and still ran off into the woods on a regular basis to catch snakes and frogs and any other reptile he came across. He was Lance Armstrong and Peter Pan and Brad Pitt all in one guy.
I have never been shaken by anything in my life to this point like this has shaken me. The visceral reaction I had is still aching in my ribcage. I feel like I have had the wind knocked out of my body. I have never felt a helplessness like I feel seeing Billy, this big broad shouldered bull strong man, so weakened by emotion that he didn't have the strength to even lift his head. Seeing someone I love in so much pain will in the end have changed me as a person.
I have begun to see all emotion in my heart in my minds eye in the form of a photograph. The photograph I see now, but cannot post, is of Jesse in his Umbro's, with sun on his shoulders and that disarming smile on his face, waving goodbye as he's turning to start his run down the road...they way I have seen him leave so many times before.

The people that remained, are heartbroken, all they had has been lost. In conversation with them, it becomes clear that PTSD has set in, as despite their best efforts to salvage what is left, there is very little to build upon. They are without power, water, roofs, and in many cases any of their belongings. One resident pictured here, Eliseo Nunez Ruiz told us he was doing his best to not visualize his own suicide, but he felt he was losing the battle.
