The non stop rain has everyone down

I'm heartbroken about the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We can see the pitiful photos of oil-soaked birds but what about the untold numbers of sea creatures that have been killed or are dying without our ever seeing them? What about the effects we know about and those we don't understand, that will go on for years, decades? What about the separate effect of the dispersants? It's a horror.

He looks over his shoulder wondering what could have been

Will it ever feel ok, how can he go one after what he’s seen?

He’ll keep walking one step at a time but he’ll never be able to forget

In his headphones plays Whiskey Lullaby, she was the best he ever met

Taken for the musically challenged group. Esther17 posted her "because I dig it list" and I responded.

I finished my novel, but I am heartbroken. I feel like all of my best friends have died. Where has everyone gone? I feel so sad and empty inside. But I finished my novel, dammit. That's six years of NaNoWriMo with three finished novels.

Bell Weeks brother, Lloyd Weeks, - He killed himself. heartbroken, after he proposed to his wealthy landlady. Her mother wouldn't allow her daughter to marry him. (I doubt she was worth that!)

Grandma Libbie (Armstrong) Harrison (1886-1967) was an avid photographer at the turn of the 20th century. She hauled her 4x5 glass plate camera around and made contact prints by the light of a kerosene lantern safelight . Her given name was Libbie Armstrong but when she became a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, the superintendent of schools made her change it to Elizabeth, since Libbie was not an appropriate name for a teacher.

This photograph was taken in upstate New York in the area of Mt. Vision, Otsego county.

BOX DATE: 2015

MANUFACTURER: M.G.A.

BODY TYPE: 2015; painted pink panties; articulated knees

HEAD MOLD: 2015; pierced ears

IMPORTANT NOTES: Cloe is a repackaged 2015 #SelfieSnaps doll wearing a different outfit.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I was terribly heartbroken when I found this #SelfieSnaps Photobooth Cloe at my local flea market during the fall of 2016. She had only been out in stores for a little over a year, and already had been tossed aside by her previous owner. That same day, I also spotted two abandoned Study Abroad Bratz at the flea market, who like Cloe were too young to already be evicted from their homes. I'd say that children are less interested in dolls these days, and that is why I have already seen such new Bratz secondhand. But the reality of the situation is far sadder. While it is true, kids these days would rather plonk down and play video games, surf the internet, or take selfies, there have always been circumstances where brand new dolls get tossed aside. My very first Barbies were secondhand. As an adult, I was able to identify them, and to my greatest horror, some of them were only two years old. By that time, they had already been trashed too! Over the years that I've been collecting and buying secondhand dollies, I've stumbled across far too many brand new dolls, who were never truly loved by their previous owners. Some still looked like brand new (like my American Girl named Maya), while others had been thoroughly abused, only to be sold at the flea market. Cloe was spared an abusive fate...instead, it appears that she had probably never been played with (or very gently so). Maybe she was an unwanted Christmas gift or birthday gift. Or maybe the child who bought her only purchased her on an impulse, and then later had a change of heart. Whatever the real reason is, I can't help but feel awful for poor little Cloe. In retrospect, I'm glad that I wasn't able to land a brand new Photobooth Cloe when the set got marked down to $5 at Wal-Mart (by that time, they had all sold out). Even though I ended up paying just as much for this Cloe, who has an awkwardly bent leg, and who didn't come with any of her other stuff, except this outfit, I'm glad I was able to rescue her. I love all my dolls, but especially my Bratz. Everyday, she'll get the chance to be admired, as I pass her spot on the lower shelf of my Bratz display, which sits right by the doorway to my art room/office. She has friends to keep her company and she has been pampered with a good bath and handmade earrings. In time, I hope that poor little Cloe forgets her first year of life...a time which denied her of any love and respect. She's such a cutie, and I'm so glad that I could give her the family she always deserved!

It was very late last Monday night, and I was shooting the second weekly edition of a brand-new party at Studio80 called Heartbreak.

It's described as: "Frankie D. and guests spin the sweetest soul, sophisticated jazz, dirtiest funk with a splash of hip-hop."

I would have to agree! ;)

With what a deep devotedness of woe

I wept thy absence - o'er and o'er again

Thinking of thee, still thee, till thought grew pain,

And memory, like a drop that, night and day,

Falls cold and ceaseless, wore my heart away!

In Necropolis Cristobal Colon, Havana's 'City of the Dead', lies the grave of La Milagrosa, a turn-of-the-century woman who died during childbirth, was mourned by a heartbroken husband and is revered by Cubans as their unofficial saint.

La Milagrosa, Spanish for "The Miraculous One,'' was in life one Amelia Goyri de Adot, who died May 3, 1901, while giving birth to a son. The infant, who also died, was buried in the same coffin as his mother, lying at her feet.

According to the legend often told among those who visit her grave at the massive cemetery, situated just blocks from the Plaza of the Revolution, her husband, Eduardo Adot y Lopez, was so grief-stricken that he would come and visit as many as three times a day. He would leave flowers and knock against the cement burial vault with one of the four brass rings attached to the lid, as if to let her know he was there.

As he left, he would always back away from her grave, so as to gaze on it for as long as possible.

According to the legend, Amelia was exhumed some years after her burial and her body was discovered to be uncorrupted, a sign Roman Catholics have traditionally interpreted as being evidence of sanctity. Moreover, the baby that had been laid at her feet was nestled in her arms.

Her husband commissioned a marble statue of his beloved Amelia, leaning against a cross and holding the infant that died with her. Eventually, as her legend spread, the lone visitor to Amelia's grave was joined by a steady stream of pilgrims who saw her as someone who could intercede for them before a distant and unapproachable God.

Cubans come to this grave to ask "La Milagrosa" to hopefully make their wishes come true.

Custom and tradition says that one is to ..

*

Knock on the grave …

*

Say your name and your wish …

*

Lay down the flowers or a gift …

*

Walk away backwards away from the grave and don't turn your back.

In making this miniature dollhouse scale (1:12) pine hutch, I applied five coats of paint, sanded, brushed, and damp washed each layer before applying the next one. The resultant color is deep green with bits of glitter to signify magical ability.

I make my hutches one at a time… from start to finish. There is no assembly line in my workshop. No elves either. For this reason, this is truly one-of a-kind. I keep no written “recipes” for the color or instructions for the items I create to put into/on my hutches. Pieces on this hutch are from nature or created at the time I was working on it from materials at hand at that time.

As a subway commuter, I was pretty heartbroken when I misplaced the earphones for my iPod somewhere inside my house. They were a pair of Klipsch S4 and I absolutely loved them. I tried looking for them but when I couldn't find them, I had to buy a new pair. I need "in ear monitors", such as the S4 and other sound isolation in-ear earphones to block out the ambient noise from

a busy city, and I usually shy away from celebrity endorsed anything but these were very nice. Originally, I bought those big hunking studio battery operated headphones, but was unimpressed by the heft and underwhelmed by the sound they produce. I tried the Beats Tour but again, I had to take them back. These ones had the same personality as my old S4, except the bass is a little punchier but the clarity remains. Not to mention, they were about 1/3 cheaper than the original battery operated earphones I bought which was a big plus. Now I can listen to my country music in peace!

I've been debating for a while over whether or not i should post this. But then I realized that it's really just a picture to comfort anyone out there who has ever had a broken heart or felt lost and alone and hopeless. Never forget that there is always tomorrow and with the help of good friends, some inspiring (Adele) music, and lots and lots of icecream, our hearts will eventually heal. keep calm and carry on, my friends. a new day has come.

There's a new girl in the house, she's pretty like a princess, I.....I.....I think knit_purr won't love me any more......

Thanks to Edwin for his Danbo, and for the tears concept!

Needless to say, most Americans are horrified and many heartbroken over the news from Texas today. This household certainly is. That some of our brave troops should be killed or wounded on our own soil, on their own base, by a man supposedly one of their own, is unthinkable and beyond foul.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fort Hood family this evening. Yours probably are as well, Flickr friends.

As for the killer(s), you are on my mind too, in most explicit, violent terms.

Do you know what the red on that flag stands for? The blood shed by American patriots through the years, men who died to preserve and defend liberty and the people who live under this flag. Men who willingly chose to offer their lives on the altar of freedom, and gave the last full measure.

Do you know what the blue stands for? Loyalty, I was taught. And though the American people might disagree on a lot of things, all of us can agree on this: we love our troops. Don't mess with them.

***

Also, I have a question about something I don't understand, and it's probably a dumb one: Why aren't troops allowed to carry on base? Not that everyone needs to be going about their business carrying heavy weaps, but...can't they be armed? Or can't we have more security on our bases? This just makes no sense to me. How can this possibly happen? I mean, even a civilian police officer was killed. Call me crazy, but if our men & women were allowed to carry on base, at least they'd be able to protect themselves and their fellows, right? Can anyone explain to me why they can't carry? Thanks.
