This is my 17th year covering this fun festival filled with color and pageantry and beautiful people. Each year some of the regulars return and sometimes fresh new faces appear to join the eclectic Renaissance Family. Some are vendors or employees, and some customers dress up to fit in with the renaissance festival fun and its 16th century way of life. One big happy family of a few thousand escaping the dull drums of their daily life for a few hours. This year's crop of new faces was lovely. Hope you enjoy the images. I try to capture their joy. Always fun, festive, very colorful and exciting!

Having crossed the yard switch, the engineer on Mt. Washington Railway Co. #8 "Moosilauke" opens the Forward Steam Valve and accelerates to the blistering track speed of 2.8 mph as the train steps out over the Ammonoosuc River, on the 3-mile climb to the summit of New England's highest peak.
This early digital image, from July of 2006 depicts what was actually the newest steam locomotive on the railway (built in 1983) in its last year of operation. Having been in regular service for more than two decades, this engine was in need of a major overhaul and at that time, plans were in place to get that work underway in the off-season. It was also about this time that the railway began to consider taking a different course, undertaking a design effort on a diesel-hydraulic locomotive that would ultimately become the future of the railroad. It wasn't long before the diesel design looked promising enough that the railroad elected to cancel plans to overhaul #8. Instead, her boiler and chassis were retired and parked behind the old shop building. Her cab and tender were then repurposed and mated with the boiler and frame of #4, creating a lash-up sometimes called the "48", because it literally had the markings of both engines. The "48 ran from 2007 until the end of hourly steam operations in mid-2009. As of 2024, the boiler and frame of the retired #8 still remain on the property.

We have celebrated the New Year 2015 with a Roaring Twenties theme party. This picture was taken this famous night. I brought my strobist equipment (it was a good opportunity ;) to shoot freely people).
Strobist info :
1. Sekonic 758D for the first setup with ISO 400 and smallest aperture f/4. 2. Main light with 2 x 110cm shoot-through white umbrella on the right and left sides with an Yongnuo yn568 speedlight (with 622 wireless trigger). 3. Background was a black IKEA DIY background. 4. A Yongnuo TX on the camera for easy wireless setup.
Picture improvement : I tried the punchy HDR directly from Lightroom. Then I added softness on the picture, etc.
I have a genetic-girl friend. She always laughs when she sees my concentration when doing my lips. When she needs to do them she just whips her lippy out of her handbag and tops her colour up. I have to point out that she has the advantage of doing her lips every day, a few times a day!

I have been out all day visiting Peter's Dad in hospital and now my daughters have invited me to see Les Miserables with them - catch you later.
Peter's Dad is coming along nicely and they are hoping to move him to a rehabilitation centre next week where it is expected he will further recover until they feel he is able to go home.
I have finally decided to post these photos. I made them for a proposal for--well obviously for this set. Unfortunately, I was not aware that Star Trek is a restricted IP and that Lego would not allow the proposal to go public because of course, what would be the point?
There's no point in keeping the photos and description to myself though, especially with the work that went into them. Description below:
'Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Lego starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no minifigure has gone before.'
Thrown through a spatial anomaly to a universe of modular building bricks, the crew of Starfleet's famous flagship find themselves sitting on your desk! With around 1800 parts, this UCS scaled Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation is lovingly detailed and mounts on an elegant display stand complete with dedication plaque. But the Enterprise-D is hardly the first ship to bear her name. Display the original Constitution class Enterprise from the 1960s TV classic alongside and at the same scale.
And of course, it isn't a Galaxy class starship without a separating saucer. With the secondary display stand--mounted with a Starfleet badge and the nanofigures of the main bridge crews of both the original series and The Next Generation--you can show off both the saucer and the stardrive sections at once! The nanofigures aren't just for display; act out some of your favorite scenes or make up your own story when you remove the saucer plates to access the main bridge.
Features:
-Prepare for saucer separation: When facing a highly dangerous threat, Captain Picard decides to split the saucer off into its own ship. With the secondary stand, you can mount the saucer and display it right alongside the stardrive section. Just swap the saucer for the battle bridge attachment and you suddenly have two ships!
-Control the action yourself: Remove the panel on the saucer section and access the main bridge. With the detailed nanofigures, the bridge crew is ready for anything. Place Data at Ops, Worf at Tactical, and Picard in his Captain's chair and 'Engage' at warp 6!
-Time for a temporal anomaly: Display the Constitution class Enterprise from the original series alongside its successor. Built to the same scale and detailed with a deflector array, impulse engines, and shuttle bay doors; you can command this highly swooshable starship on its five year mission of exploration and adventure.
-Assemble the senior staff: The nanofigures inlcude The Next Generation's Captain Picard, Commander Riker, Lt. Commander La Forge, Lt. Commander Data, Lieutenant Worf, Dr. Crusher, Counselor Troi, and the original series' Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. "Bones" McCoy, Chief Engineer Scotty, Lieutenant Uhura, Lieutenant Sulu, and Ensign Chekov.

I have a couple of dozen of these Irises that pop out each year and normally end up on Sliders Sunday. HSS

DSC_6283_1030 Camera Motion and zoom burst experiments. Taken at a shopping kiosk in Paris. This Kiosk had a Blue Night light feature in a dome shape.
This really was irresistible to photograph and try out some ideas.
With a time pressure i didn't have long to play but loved every moment of it..
