Where have you been? . . . I KNOW!
First, I want to thank everyone for the wonderful comments, faves and encouragement while I attempted the Project 85. Truly appreciated.
You may want to sit down as you're not going to believe the next words you're about to read... I sold the 85mm! Yep, the faithful "cream machine" now belongs to my good friend Rafael. You should check out his awesome stream here.
If anyone is considering the Nikkor 85mm ƒ/1.4D it's a fantastic lens and one you'll have a lot of fun with. I know I did. Unfortunately, NAS got the best of me. (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome). I may probably will regret parting with it but if I do, I'll find another used copy or upgrade to the 85mm G.
So what replaced it?
I am now the proud owner of a Nikkor 105mm ƒ/2.0 DC. I'm not that interested in the DC (Defocus Control) but loved the sharpness and colors wide open. Check out Lisa Rostoen's stream for some unbelievable examples. Lisa does amazing work! If I can manage to pull off just a little of what she can with this lens I'll be thrilled!
Anyway, I just opened the box tonight and fired off a couple of frames of the kiddies before they went to bed. The lens seems to be tack sharp and the colors are amazing. We'll have to see how it pans out over the next couple of days. Tomorrow brings another goodie I can't wait to try out. A Sigma 50mmƒ/1.4 EX DG HSM. A lot in store the next couple of days so hang on and stay tuned...
Enough about me except to say I leave for Haiti in less than a week. I am so excited and so way behind on packing, etc. I'm trying to figure out if the Kata 103 bag is going or if a Thinktank hardshell case should be purchased for the trip? Decisions, decisions. :) Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers next week.

The P-08 Luger Pistol is the definitive German sidearm made famous in many films and productions. Our replica is not capable of firing so you do not require a firearms manager on set but is otherwise a perfect replica. The action cycles and the magizine is removeable. It dry fires with an ominous "click". The replica is made from metal and is full weight feeling realistic in the hand. It comes with a "hardshell" leather holster. leather holster.

Last case of the year, cherry wood stained deep red, red pigment in first layers of varnish, many layers of clear varnish and wax over all. The handle is bamboo, as per instructions from John N., the new owner.
Square braided shoelaces brought back memories of summer camp and lanyards.
I fabricate a kind of hitching post to act as the closure for these new cases. A genuine old nickel is annealed, lightly domed, silver soldered to a brass machine screw post and bolted into the case. Nylon laces wrap around the post and cinch the lid shut securely.
I am now using SOSS 10mm hidden hinges to articulate the lids on my Backpacker cases.
Honestly, this is just getting too fancy for a Backpacker. Maybe I'm being ironic?
The Martin Backpacker cases are almost finished. Here, four layers of maple veneer are cauled and clamped to conform to the curved endblock, making a custom plywood lip.
Good thing I happen to have maple veneer rolled up in my shop rafters. And dozens of clamps.

The current run of Martin Backpacker cases is nearly done.
I like to brand my work with the kanji "Tomo" - means 'friend' in Japanese and also sounds like what my Japanese friends call me. I've burned my Tomo brand into the white pine of the yoke that cradles the neck of the guitar.
Here is another angle so you can see how well it fits when you trim the left and right side of the cardboard insert. Also you can see I put in one of the dividers to keep the cardboard insert from sliding around
Martin 000-ECHF Bellezza Bianca A collaboration designed by British guitar legend Eric Clapton and Japanese fashion and music trendsetter Hiroshi Fujiwara. A total of 410 of these visually and sonically inspired guitars were produced, among the most popular limited editions in Martin history. This guitar is the sister to the previously produced Bellezza Nerra, but in creamy white, with a touch of black and pearl for dramatic effect. As beautiful as its predecessor in appearance and tone, this stunning 000 guitar could only be called Bellezza Blanca (“White Beauty”). The twosome opted for a unique combination of solid tone woods to give the guitar a sound as distinctive as its look. The Bellezza Bianca features a top crafted from book matched Engelmann spruce, treasured by players and guitar builders alike for its clear, full tone and outstanding balance. Scalloped 5/16” top braces enhance the top’s dynamic range. Bigleaf flamed maple back and sides contribute bright timbre and impressive projections. The 1 - ¾” (at the nut) modified V-shape neck with diamond volute is carved from genuine mahogany. Polished gloss white finish on the body and neck provide the perfect “canvas” for Bellezza Bianca’s striking appointments. The distinctive rosette of “slotted diamonds” inlaid on a black background first seen on Bellezza Nera looks even better on Bellezza Bianca. Fine pattern herringbone purfling encircles the top and divides the back. Creamcolored grained ivoroid binding trims the top, back and side edges, with fine black/white/black line purfling accenting the back and sides. The grained ivoroid end piece is likewise accented with black/white/black inlay. A beveled and polished black pick guard continues the black and white theme. The guitar’s bound and polished black African ebony head plate showcases the “alternative torch” inlay- a design created for one of the first Martin 00-45s in 1902 - in vibrant abalone pearl and special sterling silver- plated mini tuners with sterling silver-plated buttons. The bound black African ebony fingerboard, highlighted by mitered black/white line inlay, bears Martin Style 45 snowflake position markers from the 1st to the 17th fret, and “Bellezza Bianca” in script between the 19th and 20th frets. To assure superb tone, Bellezza Bianca is fitted with a bone nut and compensated bone saddle. Carved from black African ebony, the belly bridge comes equipped with black ebony bridge pins inlaid with abalone pearl dots; a matching pearl inlaid ebony endpin is also included. Original TKL hardshell case included. Condition of this instrument is as good as new. Virtually unplayed, no scratches, dings, no issues.
