Allena, Timmy and I out on Lake Winnipesaukee

The surf came in and I figured our little photo shoot was over. She dug in firmly and held her place in the sand as the water rushed about her and back to the bay. Apparently the sting of her last altercation was still with her and she wasn't too excited about going back in to get her other claw and legs torn off as well.

I thought about tossing her back to the sea, but that would have required me to get up from my seat on some driftwood and I also didn't want to interfere with nature. If she was supposed to be in the water, she'd be there already.

So I sat.....and watched....and waited.....

My car was far more stuck than it may appear to be in this picture. I've been stuck in the past and have managed to get unstuck. Not this time. The tractor behind the car had just arrived when I took this picture. I was too discombobulated by my plight to think of taking pictures before that. What's funny is that I had taken chances earlier today -- chances of getting stuck by going through muddy paths -- but did not think where I had parked at the edge of this cemetery was a threat at all. I was shocked when I got ready to leave and found my wheels spinning wildy in the mud. Hardshell Cemetery, Yazoo County, Mississippi.

The shellfish warden checks out a resident's clamming license. In his basket he has his limit of 5 quarts of hardshell clams, or quahogs. These are the smaller varieties, so they are called "Little Necks" and "Cherry Stones." A bigger clam would be termed a "Chowder" (or "Chowdah" if you're from around these pahts!)

Hey Girls, What A Cool Vintage Find!

It's a Sweet and Girlie 1960s Ladies Shaver By Sunbeam!

This one's a beauty too and she's in great working order.

She took the hair off my wrist, no trouble when I gave her a little test drive earlier.

The outside of the ivory colored hardshell hinged box is a bit scruffy, but the inside is just gorgeous and the pretty shell pink razor itself is too, she looks barely used.

If you were a girl of shaving age in the late 1960s, chances are very good that you had one of these classic shavers too; everyone did. (Mine was boring old white as I recall.)

They don't make 'em like this anymore. These hardworking little ladies really are a quality products and with a little care will run forever; pretty much.

Project Eighty-Five | Day 39/ 85 Final

Where have you been? . . . I KNOW!

First, I want to thank everyone for the wonderful comments, faves and encouragement while I attempted the Project 85. Truly appreciated.

You may want to sit down as you're not going to believe the next words you're about to read... I sold the 85mm! Yep, the faithful "cream machine" now belongs to my good friend Rafael. You should check out his awesome stream here.

If anyone is considering the Nikkor 85mm ƒ/1.4D it's a fantastic lens and one you'll have a lot of fun with. I know I did. Unfortunately, NAS got the best of me. (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome). I may probably will regret parting with it but if I do, I'll find another used copy or upgrade to the 85mm G.

So what replaced it?

I am now the proud owner of a Nikkor 105mm ƒ/2.0 DC. I'm not that interested in the DC (Defocus Control) but loved the sharpness and colors wide open. Check out Lisa Rostoen's stream for some unbelievable examples. Lisa does amazing work! If I can manage to pull off just a little of what she can with this lens I'll be thrilled!

Anyway, I just opened the box tonight and fired off a couple of frames of the kiddies before they went to bed. The lens seems to be tack sharp and the colors are amazing. We'll have to see how it pans out over the next couple of days. Tomorrow brings another goodie I can't wait to try out. A Sigma 50mmƒ/1.4 EX DG HSM. A lot in store the next couple of days so hang on and stay tuned...

Enough about me except to say I leave for Haiti in less than a week. I am so excited and so way behind on packing, etc. I'm trying to figure out if the Kata 103 bag is going or if a Thinktank hardshell case should be purchased for the trip? Decisions, decisions. :) Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers next week.

Description:

This is a photograph of my brother-in-law and his beautiful fiancée. And, the last shot fired with the 85mm. I have a few more photos from our wonderful afternoon together and may post them too.

Again, thank you for the kind words. I am so disappointed I didn't get to finish the Project 85 and let you guys / gals down. "Life" and two toddlers just got the best of me the past month. Until next time...

Plain Jane is just so - no metal trunk corners, no rubber feet. Beetle-bored mahogany plywood and recycled leather suitcase handle make for a vintage vibe. She is a reincarnation of my original prototype, but with varnish.

I am now using SOSS 10mm hidden hinges to articulate the lids on my Backpacker cases.

Honestly, this is just getting too fancy for a Backpacker. Maybe I'm being ironic?

Thing Two fits both the old and new peghead sizes of Backpacker. Built for travel, but not warrantied to survive as checked baggage - best to carry on and stow in the overhead bin.
