Macro Mondays: "Tool"
A popular hand held multi-tool, with some gratuitous bokeh. Shot on a white acrylic sheet with a constant LED light, holiday lights for the bokeh.
The image is about 6.35 cm (2.5 inches) on the long edge.
My nail clippers, which sadly disintegrated just before I took the photo.
If this is way out I can swap it for my 2018: one photo each day photo as it was my first idea.

If you travel a lot (like me), finding this wonderful universal adapter at the SF MOMA shop at the San Francisco airport is something of a great help for your most necessary hand tool... it even includes USB ports :-)
For the Macro Mondays challenge "Hand Tool" (June 11th 2018)
When I want to get my thoughts clear, work through a problem, or just let my mind wander, this is where I first turn. A pen - always a fountain pen - and a clean sheet of paper. There's something about the ritual of filling the pen, cleaning the nib, and starting to write that calms and slows down the racing mind. I usually write, but sometimes doodle. It's more immediate than typing. I never liked typewriters - I'm dyslexic so spelling mistakes made it a misery. A laptop screen is better, but there is nothing to touch the simple pen and paper! Here with a green notebook - I collect notebooks like a true addict!

A Coin-Tweezer is always helpful when you have to deal with numismatic Coins - in little world the tiny people use this kind of pincette as a Hand Tool as well.

An old hand or "eggbeater" drill. Still use in occasionally for fun and as a reminder of how everything took so much longer back then.

This is a rather simple vintage kitchen tool. As far as we know it was used as some kind of hand mixer / whisk / frother (you rolled the stick between your hands to move/rotate the 4 cm wide 'star'). It belonged to my husband's gran, but he can't remember that she ever used it - so it might have be some family heirloom of hers
It's the only vintage technology I found here at our flat except for the more common vintage photography equipment (analogue bodys, lenses, exposure/light meter) and cassettes / records / turntable : ))

Smile on Saturday Kitchtoolia theme: an archive image this week, I spent some time last night taking photos for the theme but didn't get anything I was happy with.
Pliers.
The advantage of inheriting the tool collections of at least three people is that you find some interesting oddities. The disadvantage, of course, is that you end up with an awful lot of tools that you are destined to keep “just in case”.
At least I have found a use for this one! It’s is a miniature pair of pliers. It was definitely my father’s and perhaps my grandfather's before.
To suggest a story, and to add scale and contrast I thought I would try setting it within the carnivorous maw of an ordinary pair.

Developed in Lightroom trying to emphasise the metal textures. Square crop; rotated along the diagonal for strength.
Processed in Affinity Photo, with a bit of touch up.
Sharpened first in Topaz Detail and then with a touch of Unsharp Mask and High Pass/Linear blend.
A bit of tweaking with selected colours to reduce card detail.
Slight dark vignette.]
