Some quilt squares that I recently found when cleaning out my sewing shelf. I embroidered these about 14 years ago!

I started this quilt during the pregnancy of our sixth child. It was the first time I've ever made a quilt, and I decided to embellish it with embroidery. I came up with a design and then went to work. I picked out some fabric and cut it out, then sewed it into the initial block. Then I started working on the embroidery, then kept working on it, and kept working on it. Our sixth child, a son, was born and I was still working on the embroidery. He spent 11 days in the NICU due to premature delivery complications, and it was useful to have this work to distract me from some intense emotions. I eventually finised the embroidery. Then I added the striped fabric around the original block, and the next yellow strip. Finally, I put on the binding (after using information I found online to learn how to make the binding). I decided to handquilt it, so it took me quite some time after getting it all sewn together to complete it. I had never hand quilted anything, as you may recall this was my first time making a quilt. I tried the "rocking stitch" and had very little luck with it. So I resorted to stick and stab. It turned out much better that way, but did take much longer than I'd have liked.

Floral fabric is Floridunda by Liberty of London. Hand-embroidered linen on the front, navy blue crochet lace & vintage green plastci button, and yellow gingham cotton in the back, with matching covered button.

Inspired by our trips to the farmers market where we always get our "maters" from the same vendor (cute little lady who brings her dog Tink, short for Tinker Belle with her to work), I created this felt & hand embroidered catnip cat toy. Our cats live sending it flying across the kitchen floor!!

Custom order for my flicker pal! Hand crafted felt flower brooches. Each was created from hand cut felt pieces in different shapes, sizes, designs and colors. Each on has its own unique style. The colors were chosen based upon coordinating fabric yarn from the buyer. The idea is to combine these brooches with her great fabric purses and bags.
This cute little brooch features a little baby owl learning to fly embroidered on taupe linen cotton blend fabric.
An original edward & lilly handmade design.
So I used an image from a Victorian-style rubber stamp and attempted to convert the black-and-white image to a degree of color similar to the tones in sepia portraits.
It was really challenging, but fun, to determine where to place colors for all of the highlights and contours. My hubby doesn't think I can get the same painterly effect with cross stitch, but I think I'll try!
