Called a Buddha's Hand Citron, this odd looking fruit is actually one of the oldest members of the citrus family. Although it smells strongly of lemon, it has no juicy pulp hidden beneath its rind. Instead, the Buddha’s Hand is grown commercially for its powerful zest. The aromatic rind is used to flavor lemon liqueurs and specialty vodkas, and provides aroma to lemon-scented cosmetics. Chinese and Japanese households hang it in their homes as a natural air freshener, and it even has a place in some religious ceremonies.

i'm getting ready to make my cranberry sauce...and i plan to zest a bit of it into the sauce...and use some of the fingers to flavor vodka.

I needed an intimate shot for the "2010 - A to Z and back again" group this week. Couldn't really think of anything, so when me and my hubby were on a walk today, I kept taking photos of us while we were walking. With my left hand.
Five minutes later I saw them.
I don't have to use this winch very often but it is occasionally essential.
Yesterday I had to move a length of Oak Tree weighing several hundred kilos off a fence I was repairing.
It is a simple ratchet device but is very effective.

The Hand series consists of very deep, well drained soils formed in stratified loamy glacial meltwater sediments on uplands. Permeability is moderate. Slopes range from 0 to 15 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 22 inches, and mean annual air temperature is about 46 degrees F.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mixed, superactive, mesic Typic Haplustolls
Depth to free carbonates ranges from 12 to 26 inches. Thickness of the mollic epipedon ranges from 8 to 20 inches and extends into the Bw horizon. The control section averages between 18 and 30 percent clay. Bulk density of the C horizon is 1.25 to 1.40. The thickness of stratified meltwater deposits ranges from 40 inches to many feet over loamy glacial till.
USE AND VEGETATION: Most areas are cultivated. Corn, oats, soybeans, grain sorghum, alfalfa, and tame grasses are the main crops. Native vegetation includes big bluestem, little bluestem, blue grama, western wheatgrass, sideoats grama, and needlegrass.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: East-central and southeastern South Dakota. It is extensive.
