The murdered man said his name was Frank Howard, so how come the initials on his watch say "CM"? A mystery...

This scene in Fritz Lang's The Woman in the Window features Edward G Robinson and Joan Bennett, but this insert close-up was probably shot using hand doubles - a special breed of extra, more obscure even than the usual Unsung Joes I write about. You can read all about them over at the blog.

I was trying to get a nice shallow depth of field here. I think I could have done better than this.

My sister and I made this 'kholi' for my Brother's mehndi

Part of a Photography series I did on holding hands through different stages of life.

The khamsa is the most popular of the different amulets in North Africa to ward off the evil eye

I've had these awesome hand spun yarns for years. Every time I try to make anything from them, I hate it, like it doesn't do them justice. They are so much prettier to look at just wrapped into balls. So that's how they stay in my yarn box, and I admire them when I open it.

This is for the people out there who don`t know how to wash their hands, a very important basic education that my parents provided me when i was a small child. Now depending on how fussy a person is about germs, using this chart which has handles on the faucet for turning the water on and off, if you turn the water on with this faucet with dirty hands, then clean them you`ll be turning the water off with your germs still on the faucet handles and clean hands thus putting those germs back onto your clean hands. Some people, (myself included especially before i`m about to eat) will use a paper towel to turn the faucet off. The newer faucets with sensors avoid handles all together. Now what about turning or pulling a door handle when leaving the bathroom? How dirty could THAT potentially be? Basically, i think these postered lessons of handwashing are a sad sign of the times reminding people how and when to wash their hands. Food poisoning, which i suffered from once is nothing to joke about though. Also, some good handwashes for me throughtout the course of a day has helped to dramatically cut back on colds and sniffles that usually affect me during the winter months.

With all the clarity of dream

the sky so blue, the grass so green

the rank and file and the navy blue

the deep and strong, the straight and true

The blue line they got the given sign

the belts and boot march forward in time

the wood and leather the club and shield

swept like a wave across the battlefield

Now with all the clarity of dream

the blood so red, the grass so green

the gleam of spur on chestnut flank

the cavalry did burst upon the ranks

Oh the iron will and the iron hand

in england’s green and pleasant land

no music for the shameful scene

that night they said it had even shocked the queen

Well alas we’ve seen it all before

knights in armor, days of yore

the same old fears and the same old crimes

we haven’t changed since ancient times.

All visitors to the State Apartments at Windsor Castle ascend a magnificent staircase in the Grand Vestibule from Heads of State attending a State Banquet to visitors.

The two diminutive suits of armour on either side of the stairs were made for James I’s son Henry, Prince of Wales (1594-1612) when he was approximately 14 years old. Henry, elder brother of Charles I, had a particular love of chivalry. The second suit was a gift from the King of France in 1607.

"...these hands are small I know

but they're not yours

they are my own..."

I think that is how the Jewel song goes.

I heard it while wandering through Goodwill this afternoon.

My wife found a garter snake while dividing the chrysanthemums.

My attempt at Self Portrait. I have a very stumpy hand, and fat fingers though :-S
